Measurement of the Neutron Lifetime Using a Gravitational Trap and a Low-Temperature Fomblin Coating

We present a new value for the neutron lifetime of 878.5 ± 0.7_stat. ± 0.3_syst. This result differs from the world average value by 6.5 standard deviations and by 5.6 standard deviations from the previous most precise result. However, this new value for the neutron lifetime together with a β-asymmetry in neutron decay, A₀, of −0.1189(7) is in a good agreement with the Standard Model.     

Physics of Open Systems: Effects of the Impact of Chemical Stressors on Differential Gene Expression

The system knowledge is automatically generated based on the genomic data obtained by using the microarray technology. The system knowledge has been used for scientific understanding and rational explanation of regular changes in gene activity depending on the biomaterial sample, type of the chemical and its concentration, and time series of experiments.     

Exact inflation in Einstein–Gauss–Bonnet gravity

We study cosmological inflation in the Einstein gravity model with the additionally included Gauss–Bonnet term nonminimally coupled to a scalar field. We prove that inflationary solutions of exponential and power-law types are allowable, and we found few examples of them. We also propose a method for construction of exact inflationary solutions for a single scalar field with a given scale factor and Gauss–Bonnet coupling term in a spatially flat Friedmann–Robertson–Walker Universe on the basis of connection with standard inflation and using special assumptions. With one special anzatz we presented the set of equations in a form that allows for generation of exact solutions (at least in quadratures) of a wide class by setting the scale factor.     

Deformation of metals with slight elastoplastic deformation

An analytical equation describing the quasi-static deformation curve of metals with slight elastoplastic deformation is proposed. This equation yields high precision in plasticity problems. The components of the equation are found from the experimental deformation curve.     

Microstructure and properties of α-tricalcium phosphate-based bone cement

This paper examines the physicochemical properties and microstructure of brushite calcium phosphate cements possessing strength acceptable for application in surgery (15–20 MPa) and ensuring an optimal acidity (pH 6.5–7.5) of solutions in contact with them. Holding in a physiological saline produces significant changes in the microstructure of the cement relative to that before immersion in the solution: it causes a transformation of the most soluble components into platelike hydroxyapatite crystals.
