Multilayer oil-in-water (M-O/W) emulsions were compared to primary oil-in-water (P-O/W) emulsions as carriers for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) under various environmental conditions (pH and salt). The M-O/W emulsion consisted of soy oil coated with β-lactoglobulin (βLG) and pectin layers. The release of VOCs with different physiochemical properties from aqueous solutions and emulsion systems was measured using static and dynamic headspace methods. The partition coefficients (K) calculated by the phase ratio variation (PRV) method, showed different volatile release profiles between the emulsion types. An increase in VOC release was found for the unstable P-O/W emulsion at pH 5, whereas M-O/W emulsions were stable at the same pH and retained the hydrophobic VOCs. Hydrophobic interactions and hydrogen bonds with the secondary dense layer of pectin may be responsible for the improved retention. Increasing pH and ionic strength acts as a VOC release trigger to detach the pectin from the interface. The release rates from initial dynamic curves support the results under equilibrium conditions. The results of this study demonstrate the capability of using M-O/W emulsions for controlled release of VOCs, as well as an alternative system to create stable emulsions with similar VOC release profiles. 相似文献

Parameter identification and modeling of the biochemical methane potential of waste activated sludge

Anaerobic digestion is widely used in waste activated sludge treatment. In this paper, partial least-squares (PLS) is employed to identify the parameters that are determining the biochemical methane potential (BMP) of waste activated sludge. Moreover, a model is developed for the prediction of the BMP. A strong positive correlation is observed between the BMP and volatile fatty acids and carbohydrate concentrations in the sludge. A somewhat weaker correlation with COD is also present. Soluble organics (sCOD, soluble carbohydrates and soluble proteins) were shown not to influence the BMP in the observed region. This finding could be most-valuable in the context of application of sludge pretreatment methods. The obtained model was able to satisfactory predict the BMP. 相似文献

Although the number of therapeutic options for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has increased in recent years, patients suffer from decreased quality of life due to non-response or loss of response to the currently available treatments. An increased understanding of the disease’s etiology could provide novel insights for treatment strategies in IBD. Lymphatic system components are generally linked to immune responses and presumably related to inflammatory diseases pathophysiology. This review aims to summarize findings on immune-mediated mechanisms in lymphoid tissues linked with IBD pathogenesis and (potential) novel treatments. Enhanced innate and adaptive immune responses were observed in mesenteric lymph nodes (MLNs) and other lymphoid structures, such as Peyer’s patches, in patients with IBD and in animal models. Furthermore, the phenomenon of lymphatic obstruction in the form of granulomas in MLNs and lymphatic vessels correlates with disease activity. There is also evidence that abnormalities in the lymphatic stromal components and lymph node microbiome are common in IBD and could be exploited therapeutically. Finally, novel agents targeting lymphocyte trafficking have been added to the treatment armamentarium in the field of IBD. Overall, gut-associated lymphoid tissue plays a key role in IBD immunopathogenesis, which could offer novel therapeutic targets. 相似文献

The choice of effective biocides used for routine hospital practice should consider the role of disinfectants in the maintenance and development of local resistome and how they might affect antibiotic resistance gene transfer within the hospital microbial population. Currently, there is little understanding of how different biocides contribute to eDNA release that may contribute to gene transfer and subsequent environmental retention. Here, we investigated how different biocides affect the release of eDNA from mature biofilms of two opportunistic model strains Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 (PA) and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 (SA) and contribute to the hospital resistome in the form of surface and water contaminants and dust particles. The effect of four groups of biocides, alcohols, hydrogen peroxide, quaternary ammonium compounds, and the polymeric biocide polyhexamethylene guanidine hydrochloride (PHMG-Cl), was evaluated using PA and SA biofilms. Most biocides, except for PHMG-Cl and 70% ethanol, caused substantial eDNA release, and PHMG-Cl was found to block biofilm development when used at concentrations of 0.5% and 0.1%. This might be associated with the formation of DNA–PHMG-Cl complexes as PHMG-Cl is predicted to bind to AT base pairs by molecular docking assays. PHMG-Cl was found to bind high-molecular DNA and plasmid DNA and continued to inactivate DNA on surfaces even after 4 weeks. PHMG-Cl also effectively inactivated biofilm-associated antibiotic resistance gene eDNA released by a pan-drug-resistant Klebsiella strain, which demonstrates the potential of a polymeric biocide as a new surface-active agent to combat the spread of antibiotic resistance in hospital settings. 相似文献

In this paper, a design-based structural testing method is presented to enable a fast, low cost test for a switched-resistor
digital-to-analogue converter (DAC). A 24-bit stereo DAC is used to demonstrate this. After schematic-level simulations and
experimental verification, it is found that the dynamic parameter THD can be predicted by the static test. Practical production
wafer test and final test results evaluate this structural test method by comparing it with the traditional THD test method.
In this paper the simulation results, the relevant measurement results, and the testing results are discussed. Finally, the
application recommendations are given.

Two kinds of CACs with different monocalcium aluminate(CA) contents were used in the PC/CAC(PAC) mixtures. Effects of CA and CACs on the properties of PAC were analyzed by setting times and the compressive strength tests, and also by means of calorimetry, XRD, DTA-TG and ESEM. The experimental results show that the compressive strength of the PAC mortars decreases with increasing content of CAC while it declines sharply with a higher content of CA in CAC. Compared with neat PC paste, the content of calcium hydroxide in hydrates of PAC paste decreases significantly, and the hydration time of PC is prominently prolonged. Additionally, the higher the content of CA in CAC, the more obviously the hydration of PC is delayed, confi rming that the CA phase in CAC plays an important role in the delay of PC hydration. 相似文献

Since the discovery of Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) in the early 1990s, the amount of new structures has grown exponentially. A MOF typically consists of inorganic nodes that are connected by organic linkers to form crystalline, highly porous structures. MOFs have attracted a lot of attention lately, as the versatile design of such materials holds promises of interesting applications in various fields. In this review, we will focus on the use of MOFs as heterogeneous oxidation catalysts. MOFs are very promising candidates to replace homogeneous catalysts by sustainable and stable heterogeneous catalysts.
The catalytic active function can be either the active metal sites of the MOF itself or can be introduced as an extra functionality in the linker, a dopant or a “ship-in-a-bottle” complex. As the pore size, pore shape, and functionality of MOFs can be designed in numerous ways, shape selectivity, and even chiral selectivity can be created. In this article, we will present an overview on the state of the art of the use of MOFs as a heterogeneous catalyst in liquid phase oxidation reactions. 相似文献

Pyrethrins are active ingredients extracted from pyrethrum flowers (Tanacetum cinerariifolium), and are the most widely used botanical insecticide. However, several thrips species are commonly found on pyrethrum flowers
in the field, and are the dominant insects found inside the flowers. Up to 80 % of western flower thrips (WFT, Frankliniella occidentalis) adults died within 3 days of initiating feeding on leaves of pyrethrum, leading us to evaluate the role of pyrethrins in
the defense of pyrethrum leaves against WFT. The effects of pyrethrins on WFT survival, feeding behavior, and reproduction
were measured both in vitro and in planta (infiltrated leaves). The lethal concentration value (LC50) for pyrethrins against WFT adults was 12.9 mg/ml, and pyrethrins
at 0.1 % (w/v) and 1 % (w/v) had significantly negative effects on feeding, embryo development, and oviposition. About 20-70 %
of WFT were killed within 2 days when they were fed chrysanthemum leaves containing 0.01-1 % pyrethrins. Chrysanthemum leaves
containing 0.1 % or 1 % pyrethrins were significantly deterrent to WFT. In a no-choice assay, the reproduction of WFT was
reduced significantly when the insects were fed leaves containing 0.1 % pyrethrins, and no eggs were found in leaves containing
1 % pyrethrins. Our results suggest that the natural concentrations of pyrethrins in the leaves may be responsible for the

Gas hold‐up (?G) in air‐aqueous electrolyte solutions in stirred tank reactors (STR) is correlated using a relative gas dispersion parameter, N/Ncd and a surface tension factor (STF), (c/z)(dδ/dc)2. For electrolyte concentration below transition concentration (ct) a single correlation in the form of ?G = f(N/Ncd, vvm, STF) shows good agreement with gas hold‐up data over a wide range of system and operating conditions. Above ct no effect of STF on gas hold‐up is observed and the correlation obtained is of the form ?G = f(N/Ncd, vvm). Data available in the literature on large STR show good fit with the proposed correlation. 相似文献
