The use of topology optimization for structural design often leads to slender structures. Slender structures are sensitive to geometric imperfections such as the misplacement or misalignment of material. The present paper therefore proposes a robust approach to topology optimization taking into account this type of geometric imperfections. A density filter based approach is followed, and translations of material are obtained by adding a small perturbation to the center of the filter kernel. The spatial variation of the geometric imperfections is modeled by means of a vector valued random field. The random field is conditioned in order to incorporate supports in the design where no misplacement of material occurs. In the robust optimization problem, the objective function is defined as a weighted sum of the mean value and the standard deviation of the performance of the structure under uncertainty. A sampling method is used to estimate these statistics during the optimization process. The proposed method is successfully applied to three example problems: the minimum compliance design of a slender column-like structure and a cantilever beam and a compliant mechanism design. An extensive Monte Carlo simulation is used to show that the obtained topologies are more robust with respect to geometric imperfections.  相似文献

This paper aims at understanding why road accidents tend to cluster in specific road segments. More particularly, it aims at analyzing which are the characteristics of the accidents occurring in "black" zones compared to those scattered all over the road. A technique of frequent item sets (data mining) is applied for automatically identifying accident circumstances that frequently occur together, for accidents located in and outside "black" zones. A Belgian periurban region is used as case study. Results show that accidents occurring in "black" zones are characterized by left-turns at signalized intersections, collisions with pedestrians, loss control of the vehicle (run-off-roadway) and rainy weather conditions. Accidents occurring outside "black" zones (scattered in space) are characterized by left turns on intersections with traffic signs, head-on collisions and drunken road user(s). Furthermore, parallel collisions and accidents on highways or roads with separated lanes, occurring at night or during the weekend are frequently occurring accident patterns for all accident locations. These exploratory results show the potentiality of the frequent item set method in addition to more classical statistical techniques, but also suggest that there is no unique countermeasure for reducing the number of accidents.  相似文献

The recycling potential of municipal solid waste incinerator (MSWI) bottom ash may be limited by the leaching of antimony (Sb). Therefore, treatment methodologies need to be developed. The pH-dependent leaching behaviour of this oxyanion-forming element in fresh and weathered bottom ash is, however, not understood. Sb leaching was investigated in a wide range of both pH and extent of carbonation. Sb came close to equilibrium with calcium antimonate (Ca[Sb(OH)(6)](2)) at acid and neutral pH. Therefore, adsorption experiments with synthetic calcite (CaCO(3)), ettringite (Ca(6)Al(2)(SO(4))(3)(OH)(12) x 26H(2)O), gypsum (CaSO(4) x 2H(2)O), and portlandite (Ca(OH)(2)) and adsorption modelling to hydrous ferric oxides (HFO) and amorphous aluminium minerals (AAM) were conducted to investigate which minerals decrease Sb leaching below equilibrium with calcium antimonate. At pH>12, calcium antimonate comes into solution due to portlandite formation, but the subsequent increase in Sb leaching is reduced due to strong interaction of Sb with portlandite and ettringite. Ettringite appears to be an important host mineral for Sb at the natural pH of mildly weathered bottom ash (11.8) because a minimum in leaching is observed. When pH is decreased below 10.5, ettringite dissolves and Sb comes into solution, approaching equilibrium with calcium antimonate near pH 9. Gypsum showed no affinity for Sb. The interaction of calcite with Sb was not clear. Adsorption modelling suggested that HFO, rather than AAM, control Sb leaching when pH<9. During carbonation, Sb leaching first increased, most likely due to dissolution of ettringite. Then, Sb leaching decreased, since the pH became low enough to allow sorption by HFO.  相似文献

Energy use in buildings has come more into focus in recent years. An airtight building envelope with a low infiltration is a definite prerequisite to achieve an energy efficient building. Recently the Norwegian airtightness requirements have become stricter. This leads to an increased focus on airtight constructions and methods. Platform constructed structural floors are widely used in Norway. Air leakages are frequently observed in connection with structural floors, both at the wall/floor and wall/ceiling junction and as leakages into the floor or into the ceiling. This article discusses the importance of the leakages in platform constructed structural floors on the airtightness of wood-frame houses. This is done by laboratory measurements of vapour barriers and wind-barriers mounted on a wall with structural floor beams. The results show that the airtightness performance of the vapour barrier can be made almost as good as the wind-barrier. However, this is quite labour-intensive. With a properly mounted wind-barrier, the influence of the structural floors on the airtightness of a wood-frame house can be made negligible.  相似文献

Knowledge of the stress‐strain relationship of concrete under uniaxial compression is crucial for the design of concrete members. This study focuses on the stress‐strain behaviour under compression and especially the strain‐softening of self‐compacting concretes produced with limestone fillers. Four self‐compacting concretes (SCC) and three conventional vibrated concretes (VC) were used to produce cylindrical test specimens with an h/d ratio of 3. The σϵ diagram at five different ages (3–91 days) was recorded during uniaxial compressive tests. The peak strain of the SCC cylinders was shown to be higher than the ones recorded for VC concretes. However, the specific toughness of both concrete types turned out to be comparable.  相似文献

Post-disaster housing reconstruction is likely to suffer project deficiencies in relation to the availability of resources. Inefficiencies in dealing with resource shortages in the aftermath of a catastrophe can trigger economic and environmental impacts on the affected areas. Based on data collected from field research in China, Indonesia, and Australia, three types of resource-led reconstruction strategies are compared: government driven, donor driven, and market driven. Conventional interventions from the Chinese government (e.g. price restrictions and discouraging profiteering to regulate the market) were unable to meet the long-term reconstruction needs after the Wenchuan earthquake (2008). Complexity inherent in both internal and external environments in Indonesia compromised donors' efforts in post-tsunami (2004) resource procurement. Market-oriented resourcing processes in Australian bushfire (2009) reconstruction are unlikely to succeed without facilitated solutions from the government and institutions. The answer to effective resource management for post-disaster reconstruction lies in the appropriateness of the responses and improvements to address resourcing challenges. The success of resourcing depends on multi-stakeholder collaboration and the development of polices, plans, and tools to allow market flexibility, donor management, and government intervention.

Il est probable que la reconstruction de logements après une catastrophe se trouve confrontée à des insuffisances liées à la disponibilité des ressources pour les projets de construction. Le manque d'efficacité dans le traitement des pénuries de ressources suite à une catastrophe peut déclencher des répercussions économiques et environnementales sur les zones affectées. En se fondant sur les données tirées d’études de terrain en Chine, en Indonésie et en Australie, trois types de stratégies de reconstruction impulsées par les ressources sont comparés, mettant l'accent respectivement sur les gouvernements, les donateurs et le marché. Les interventions classiques du gouvernement chinois (par ex. limiter les prix et dissuader de faire des bénéfices excessifs pour réguler le marché) n'ont pas permis de répondre aux besoins de reconstruction à long terme après le tremblement de terre de Wenchuan (2008). La complexité inhérente aux environnements intérieurs aussi bien qu'extérieurs en Indonésie a mis en péril les efforts des donateurs concernant l'approvisionnement en ressources après le tsunami (2004). Il y a peu de chances que les processus de sourcing privilégiant le marché lors de la reconstruction suite aux incendies dans le bush australien (2009) puissent réussir sans des solutions facilitées par le gouvernement et les institutionnels. La réponse à apporter pour qu'une gestion efficace des ressources permette la reconstruction après une catastrophe réside dans la justesse des réponses et des améliorations faites pour relever les défis du sourcing. La réussite du sourcing dépend d'une collaboration entre les diverses parties prenantes et du développement de politiques, de plans et d'outils qui assureront la flexibilité du marché, la gestion des donateurs et l'intervention gouvernementale.

On several paintings by artists of the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th Century a darkening of the original yellow areas, painted with the chrome yellow pigment (PbCrO(4), PbCrO(4)·xPbSO(4), or PbCrO(4)·xPbO) is observed. The most famous of these are the various Sunflowers paintings Vincent van Gogh made during his career. In the first part of this work, we attempt to elucidate the degradation process of chrome yellow by studying artificially aged model samples. In view of the very thin (1-3 μm) alteration layers that are formed, high lateral resolution spectroscopic methods such as microscopic X-ray absorption near edge (μ-XANES), X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (μ-XRF), and electron energy loss spectrometry (EELS) were employed. Some of these use synchrotron radiation (SR). Additionally, microscopic SR X-ray diffraction (SR μ-XRD), μ-Raman, and mid-FTIR spectroscopy were employed to completely characterize the samples. The formation of Cr(III) compounds at the surface of the chrome yellow paint layers is particularly observed in one aged model sample taken from a historic paint tube (ca. 1914). About two-thirds of the chromium that is present at the surface has reduced from the hexavalent to the trivalent state. The EELS and μ-XANES spectra are consistent with the presence of Cr(2)O(3)·2H(2)O (viridian). Moreover, as demonstrated by μ-XANES, the presence of another Cr(III) compound, such as either Cr(2)(SO(4))(3)·H(2)O or (CH(3)CO(2))(7)Cr(3)(OH)(2) [chromium(III) acetate hydroxide], is likely.  相似文献

Abstract:

Organizations today face intense and growing pressure to reduce cost, decrease time to market, and maximize stakeholder value in product development (PD). Many organizations have adopted lean product development (LPD) methods in an attempt to improve their PD systems; however, despite two decades of research, there is still much less understanding of the characteristics of effective LPD systems than of effective lean manufacturing systems. LPD systems are complex systems involving multiple organizational levels; however, most LPD research to date has focused only on a single level. There is currently a lack of understanding of the interactions between levels and effective means for managing these interactions. In this article, we propose a multilevel framework designed to capture key LPD system principles at the functional, project, and portfolio levels; tools and practices for implementing principles at each level; and approaches for managing the interactions between levels. A longitudinal case study is used to expand and refine a conceptual framework developed through literature review. Future research should focus on further validating the framework and applying the framework to improve LPD system design.  相似文献

The electrochemical decomplexing and oxidation of two frequently used complexing agents in surface treatment and metal finishing—EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) and NTA (nitrilotriacetic acid)—and of organic non‐complexing additives used in nickel‐plating baths were the subject of this study. Using a Ti–RuO2 electrode, a partial indirect oxidation by in‐situ electrochemical generation of chlorine compounds could be achieved for EDTA and NTA. At a boron‐doped diamond (BDD) electrode however, complete decomplexing and high COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) and TOC (Total Organic Carbon) (up to 95%) removal occurred at an average current density of 2 A dm?2. It is shown that direct electrochemical oxidation at a BDD electrode resulted in lower energy consumption and higher treatment rates than indirect oxidation at a Ti–RuO2 electrode. Decomplexing at the BDD electrode occurred at high current efficiencies ranging from 71% to 95% with decomplexing rates in the order of 3.13 mmol (Ah)?1 and 5.02 mmol (Ah)?1 for EDTA and NTA respectively. COD removal rates obtained were 0.090 g (Ah)?1 for EDTA, 0.100 g (Ah)?1 for NTA and 0.205 g (Ah)?1 for the nickel‐plating additives. Electrochemical decomplexing and oxidation of common chelating agents can render the subsequent metal precipitation and biological wastewater treatment of surface treatment and metal finishing effluents more efficient.
