The dendritic cell-specific intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM) 3-grabbing nonintegrin (DC-SIGN) is a C-type lectin that appears to perform several different functions. Besides mediating adhesion between dendritic cells and T lymphocytes, DC-SIGN recognizes several pathogens some of which, including HIV, appear to exploit it to invade host organisms. The intriguing diversity of the roles attributed to DC-SIGN and their therapeutic implications have stimulated the search for new ligands that could be used as biological probes and possibly as lead compounds for drug development. The natural ligands of DC-SIGN consist of mannose oligosaccharides or fucose-containing Lewis-type determinants. Using the known 3D structure of the Lewis-x trisaccharide, we have identified some monovalent alpha-fucosylamides that bind to DC-SIGN with inhibitory constants 0.4-0.5 mM, as determined by SPR, and have characterized their interaction with the protein by STD NMR spectroscopy. This work establishes for the first time alpha-fucosylamides as functional mimics of chemically and enzymatically unstable alpha-fucosides and describes interesting candidates for the preparation of multivalent systems able to block the receptor DC-SIGN with high affinity and with potential biomedical applications. 相似文献

Clay-chamotte composites were realized for manufacturing refractory bricks. We used two kaolinitic refractory clays mined in Cameroon and two calcined clays (chamottes) with a large grain size (0.1–4 mm). Clay-chamotte composites containing various quantities of chamotte (0–50 wt%) were shaped and sintered at 1200–1350 °C. The structural characteristics of composites indicated the presence of quartz from the initial clay, cristobalite and mullite. SEM observations revealed very heterogeneous microstructures where porosity is weakly distributed and large pores are entrapped at the vicinity of large chamotte and quartz grains. In general, the global porosity increases with the chamotte content. A specific interpretation of the matrix role on the global sintering behaviour reveals that only a part of the matrix acts effectively. Since the most part of the global porosity is within the matrix, it is distributed in matrix zones, which participate effectively to sintering and in inert matrix zones where larger pores occur. The global mechanical strength is controlled by the matrix behaviour, but the high porosity of this phase is unfavourable to high strength values. Besides, the occurrence of larges pores and local cracks at large grain interfaces from thermal stresses are critical flaws, which reduce the mechanical strength. 相似文献

In contrast to USH2A, variants in ADGRV1 are a minor cause of Usher syndrome type 2, and the associated phenotype is less known. The purpose of the study was to characterize the retinal phenotype of 18 ADGRV1 patients (9 male, 9 female; median age 52 years) and compare it with that of 204 USH2A patients (111 male, 93 female; median age 43 years) in terms of nyctalopia onset, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), fundus autofluorescence (FAF), and optical coherence tomography (OCT) features. There was no statistical difference in the median age at onset (30 and 18 years; Mann–Whitney U test, p = 0.13); the mean age when 50% of the patients reached legal blindness (≥1.0 log MAR) based on visual acuity (64 years for both groups; log-rank, p = 0.3); the risk of developing advanced retinal degeneration (patch or atrophy) with age (multiple logistic regression, p = 0.8); or the frequency of cystoid macular edema (31% vs. 26%, Fisher’s exact test, p = 0.4). ADGRV1 and USH2A retinopathy were indistinguishable in all major functional and structural characteristics, suggesting that the loss of function of the corresponding proteins produces similar effects in the retina. Three examples of the work undertaken at the Institut de Recherches sur la Catalyse for the selective preparation of fine chemicals in polyphasic media are presented and discussed:
1. diastereoselective hydrogenation of 1,2-disubstituted arenes to cyclohexyl derivatives,
2. chemoselective oxidation of anilines, and
3. regioselective alkoxycarbonylation of styrene derivatives to 2-arylpropionic esters.

A multi-bubble dynamics code accounting for gas diffusion in the liquid and through the bubble wall was developed and used to study the modification of a bubble nuclei population dynamics by a propeller.The propeller flow field was obtained using a Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) solver and bubble nuclei populations were propagated in this field.The numerical pro-cedure enabled establishment of the possibility of production behind the propeller of relatively large visible bubbles starting from typical ocean nuclei size distributions.The resulting larger bubbles are seen to cluster in the blade wakes and tip vortices.Parametric investigations of the initial nuclei size distribution,the dissolved gas concentration,and the cavitation number were conducted to ide-ntify their effects on bubble entrainment and the resultant void fractions and bubble distribution modifications downstream from the propeller.Imposed synthetic turbulence-like fluctuations unto the average RANS flow field were also used to study the effect avera-ging in the RANS procedure has on the results. 相似文献

A dysfunctioning of the heart of the fuel cell might affect the whole system, and thus the demand of electric power. To be able to estimate the damage of the fuel cell, the default has to be detected precisely. As it is well known, the physico-chemical processes involved in proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) are strongly coupled, as such that putting apart a phenomenon by experimental measurement can be quite difficult. To this end, simulations of an online or offline diagnosis, for instance by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) method are interesting. It can help also to analyze what happens locally in the heart of cell. The main aim of the presented work is to highlight the interest of using PEMFC dynamic model as a diagnosis tool. In the present investigation, a scanning electron microscopy analysis was performed to evaluate the effects of the topical application of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) gel associated with Cetavlon (EDTAC) in removing the smear layer and exposing collagen fibers following root surface instrumentation. Twenty-eight teeth from adult humans, single rooted and scheduled for extraction due to periodontal reasons, were selected. Each tooth was submitted to manual (scaling and root planing) instrumentation alone or combined with ultrasonic instruments, with or without etching using a 24% EDTAC gel. Following extraction, specimens were processed and examined under a scanning electron microscope. A comparative morphological semi-quantitative analysis was performed; the intensity of the smear layer and the decalcification of cementum and dentinal surfaces were graded in 12 sets using an arbitrary scale ranging from 1 (area covered by a smear layer) to 4 (no smear layer). Root debridement with hand instruments alone or combined with ultrasonic instruments resulted in a similar smear layer covering the root surfaces. The smear layer was successfully removed from the surfaces treated with EDTAC, which exhibited numerous exposed dentinal tubules and collagen fibers. This study supports the hypothesis that manual instrumentation alone or instrumentation combined with ultrasonic instrumentation is unable to remove the smear layer, whereas the subsequent topical application of EDTAC gel effectively removes the smear layer, uncovers dentinal openings and exposes collagen fibers. 相似文献

This paper presents a model to evaluate the impact of substrate noise on a CMOS regenerative comparator and moreover to predict
the resulting performance degradation of a flash analog-to-digital (A/D) converter. The proposed approach initially relates
substrate noise to the induced timing uncertainty of the comparator by means of an analytical linear model. In particular,
the analysis first focuses on analyzing and expressing the resulting non-uniform sampling distortion in regenerative comparators
in the presence of a deterministic ground bounce. Two sources of distortion are identified and evaluated: the input-dependent
and the substrate noise-dependent one. For each error contributor, the analysis investigates two cases of timing error, based
on the frequency correlation of the interfering signal with the sampling clock. The properties (number and power of distortion
tones) of the sampling error spectrum are found to be highly dependent on the spectral content of the interfering signal and
the sampling clock, while the model captures accurately the induced distortion. Subsequently, the linear model is extended
to estimate the degradation of flash A/D converters and is utilized to predict the performance of practical flash and time-interleaved

It has been shown that a rapid measuring technique for electrical contact resistance (ecr) has potential applications in lubricant additives studies. In boundary lubrication of a metallic interface with zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate (DTPZn) or other anti-wear additives blended in the lubricant, anti-wear efficiency relies on interface film formation which acts also as an insulating barrier for electrical current. Investigations in the 1ω to 10 Mω range of resistance, with subsequent and appropriate ecr signal treatment and analysis, indicate that systematic use of ecr permits visualisation and study of interface film formation. This paper shows that two interface films can be detected, with two different levels of average ecr, 0–1 kω and 100k–10Mω. The current view of instrumental conditioning indicates that performance in the early stage of training is maintained by a representation of the outcome, as indexed by its sensitivity to changes in the value of the reward. In the present study, the authors tested the effects of a disconnection of the prelimbic cortex (PL) and the basolateral nucleus of the amygdale (BLA), using an asymmetric lesion procedure, to determine whether these structures interact sequentially as part of a corticolimbic system. In marked contrast to the effects of bilateral lesions of the PL or the BLA, which both altered rats' sensitivity to outcome devaluation, the disconnection of these 2 brain areas was without an effect on outcome devaluation.
