Computer-aided design of framed dome structures with interactive graphics

A system for the automatic generation and display of framed domes is presented. The designer can interactively modify the structural topology, as well as specify member properties, support conditions and loadings, while simultaneously viewing the dome structure from any view-point in 3-dimensional space. Analysis capabilities provide rapid feedback of the structural implications of the design.     

Endotracheal naloxone reversal of morphine-induced respiratory depression in rabbits

In an emergency, intravenous access may be difficult to obtain rapidly. Alternate routes of administration for drugs are, therefore, desirable. Our study was performed to determine if naloxone could be efficacious in reversing morphine-induced respiratory depression in rabbits when administered using the endotracheal route. Our results indicate that naloxone administered in this fashion is effective in reversing morphine-induced respiratory depression in the rabbit. Mean minute ventilation was depressed to greater than half of resting baseline levels using morphine sulfate. Endotracheally administered naloxone reversed this respiratory depression and resulted in a greater than five-fold increase in mean minute ventilation above baseline levels. We concluded that endotracheal naloxone is efficacious in reversing morphine-induced respiratory depression in the rabbit. The endotracheal route may be an effective alternative for naloxone administration in man when rapid intravenous access is not obtainable.     

Application of the Loading Algorithm to Balance Workloads

The Eilon-Christofides algorithm for the loading problem is modified to allocate n jobs of given magnitude to m departments, each with existing workloads such that the resulting workloads are nearly equally balanced.     

Very low temperature thermal conductivity and optical properties of Stycast 1266 epoxy

The thermal conductivity of Stycast 1266 epoxy has been measured between 0.045 and 0.45 K. The thermal conductivity closely follows a T(2) behavior in this temperature range. In addition, some room temperature optical properties of this epoxy are reported.     

The Examination of Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP).

Responds to H. F. Hess's (see record 1978-01800-001) article on entry requirements for professional practice of psychology with criticisms of the EPPP. The EPPP is described as a poor measure of clinical skills or knowledge and does not adequately evaluate candidates in divergent fields. Protestant ethic endorsement and attitudes toward commuting to work among mass transit riders.

273 suburban adult commuters completed a survey assessing attitudes toward commuting to and from work by train, behavior while commuting, and endorsement of the Protestant work ethic. It was found that Protestant ethic endorsement was positively correlated with perceiving the commute as being part of the work day, engaging in work-related behavior while in transit, and a stronger preference for working than for commuting. However, endorsement of the Protestant ethic was uncorrelated with the frequency with which respondents' jobs provided them with differential opportunities to actually do work while commuting. Findings suggest that work values can account for behavior and attitudes that extend beyond the work place. (13 ref) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)     

Rorschach developmental level and intelligence factors.

Attempted to provide a more complete exploration of the relationship between Rorschach developmental level scores and intelligence than has appeared to date in the literature. Factor scores for both the WAIS and Rorschach measures were used in comparing test protocols obtained from 86 16–68 yr old psychiatric inpatients. Results reaffirm a relationship between intellectual level and developmental level. Further, the relationship was found to be of a general nature. It did not rely specifically on verbal, perceptual, or memory factors. Results also indicate that the relationship held for females as well as males. Mass exchange between droplets during head-on collisions of multisize sprays

A derivation of sectional equations for mass exchange between colliding droplets during head-on collisions of multisize (polydisperse) sprays is presented. The collision terms of these equations account for binary collisions which lead to coalescence and immediate break-up into two new droplets which differ in mass from the original droplets. That is, mass is exchanged between the original droplets. The amount of exchanged mass is allowed to vary between 0 and 100% of the mass of the donor droplet. The new equations are employed here to analyze the time evolution in droplet size distributions of two head-on colliding polydisperse sprays.
