Multicast communication, in which the same message is delivered from a source node to an arbitrary number of destination nodes, is being increasingly demanded in parallel computing. System supported multicast services can potentially offer improved performance, increased functionality, and simplified programming, and may in turn be used to support various higher-level operations for data movement and global process control. This paper presents efficient algorithms to implement multicast communication in wormhole-routed direct networks, in the absence of hardware multicast support, by exploiting the properties of the switching technology. Minimum-time multicast algorithms are presented for n-dimensional meshes and hypercubes that use deterministic, dimension-ordered routing of unicast messages. Both algorithms can deliver a multicast message to m-1 destinations in [log 2 m] message passing steps, while avoiding contention among the constituent unicast messages. Performance results of implementations on a 64-node nCUBE-2 hypercube and a 168-node Symult 2010 2-D mesh are given  相似文献

We have developed a problem-solving framework, called ConClass, that is capable of classifying continuous real-time problems dynamically and concurrently on a distributed system. ConClass provides an efficient development environment for describing and decomposing a classification problem and synthesizing solutions. In ConClass, decomposed concurrent subproblems specified by the application developer effectively correspond to the actual distributed hardware elements. This scheme is useful for designing and implementing efficient distributed processing, making it easier to anticipate and evaluate system behavior. The ConClass system provides an object replication feature that prevents any particular object from being overloaded. In order to deal with an indeterminate amount of problem data, ConClass dynamically creates object networks that justify hypothesized solutions, and thus achieves a dynamic load distribution. A number of efficient execution mechanisms that manage a variety of asynchronous aspects of distributed processing have been implemented without using schedulers or synchronization schemes that are liable to develop bottlenecks. In a fault-tolerant distributed system, different non-faulty processes may arrive at different values for a given system parameter. To resolve this disagreement, processes must exchange and vote upon their respective local values. Faulty processes may attempt to inhibit agreement by acting in a malicious or “Byzantine” manner. Approximate agreement defines one form of agreement in which the voted values obtained by the non-faulty processes need not be identical. Instead, they need only agree to within a predefined tolerance. Approximate agreement can be achieved by a sequence of convergent voting rounds, in which the range of values held by non-faulty processes is reduced in each round. Historically, each new convergent voting algorithm has been accompanied by ad-hoc proofs of its convergence rate and fault-tolerance, using an overly conservative fault model in which all faults exhibit worst-case Byzantine behavior. This paper presents a general method to quickly determine convergence rate and fault-tolerance for any member of a broad family of convergent voting algorithms. This method is developed under a realistic mixed-mode fault model comprised of asymmetric, symmetric, and benign fault modes. These results are employed to more accurately analyze the properties of several existing voting algorithms, to derive a sub-family of optimal mixed-mode voting algorithms, and to quickly determine the properties of proposed new voting algorithms  相似文献

Nonlinear quantitative feedback theory (QFT) and pilot compensation techniques are used to design a 2 × 2 flight control system for the YF-16 aircraft over a large range of plant uncertainty. The design is based on numerical input-output time histories generated with a FORTRAN implemented nonlinear simulation of the YF-16. The first step of the design process is the generation of a set of equivalent linear time-invariant (LTI) plant models to represent the actual nonlinear plant. It has been proven that the solution to the equivalent plant problem is guaranteed to solve the original nonlinear problem. Standard QFT techniques are then used in the design synthesis based on the equivalent plant models. A detailed mathematical development of the method used to develop these equivalent LTI plant models is provided. After this inner-loop design, pilot compensation is developed to reduce the pilot's workload. This outer-loop design is also based on a set of equivalent LTI plant models. This is accomplished by modelling the pilot with parameters that result in good handling qualities ratings, and developing the necessary compensation to force the desired system responses.  相似文献

This paper is a reply to Laviolette and Seaman's critical discussion of fuzzy set theory. Rather than questioning the interest of the Bayesian approach to uncertainty, some reasons why Bayesian find the idea of a fuzzy set not palatable are laid bare. Some links between fuzzy sets and probability that Laviolette and Seaman seem not to be aware of are pointed out. These links suggest that, contrary to the claim sometimes found in the literature, probability theory is not a special case of fuzzy set theory. The major objection to Laviolette and Seaman is that they found their critique on as very limited view of fuzzy sets, including debatable papers, while they fail to account for significant works pertaining to axiomatic derivation of fuzzy set connectives, possibility theory, fuzzy random variables, among others  相似文献

Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans is frequently associated with severe periodontitis. Many periodontitis patients have elevated levels of serum IgG antibodies to A. actinomycetemcomitans, but the role of these antibodies is unknown. This study evaluated the functional capacity of anti-A. actinomycetemcomitans IgG antibody to enhance phagocytosis of A. actinomycetemcomitans by polymorphonuclear leukocytes. Chemoluminescence assays were done using sera from 64 subjects, 61 of whom had severe periodontitis; results were compared with the subject's anti-A. actinomycetemcomitans IgG titer and avidity. There was a strong correlation between chemoluminescence and antibody log titer (P < .00001) and a weak correlation between chemoluminescence and antibody avidity (P < .05). The results support the hypothesis that anti-A. actinomycetemcomitans IgG antibodies are important in promoting phagocytosis and killing of A. actinomycetemcomitans. Subjects who develop high levels of highly avid antibodies against A. actinomycetemcomitans may have greater resistance to continued or repeated infection by this pathogen.  相似文献
