Comparing the thermal properties of TiO2 encapsulating polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate) with those of TiO2 dispersion polymers it was found that the encapsulating polymers have two thermal relaxation regions. The activation energy of those thermal relaxation regions was determined using the Wunderlich method and it was found that the values are similar to the activation energy for the dynamic dispersion. It is suggested that the low-temperature thermal relaxation is caused by the local change of conformation of molecular chains, while the high-temperature thermal relaxation is similar to that of the normal glass transition temperature including the interaction with TiO2. In addition, the thermal behaviour near the degradation point in different atmospheres indicates that the encapsulating polymer has a specific structure for adsorbing a large amount of oxygen.  相似文献

Design and characteristics of large displacement optical fiber switch   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Plastic optical fiber (POF) is suitable for indoor local area network (LAN), for example, in-home or office networks, because of its flexibility and its ease of connection due to its relatively large core diameter. A 1/spl times/2 optical switch for indoor LAN using POF and a shape memory alloy (SMA) coil actuator with magnetic latches was successfully fabricated and tested. In this paper, the design concept and the characteristics of this switch are described. To achieve switching by the movement of a POF, large displacement is necessary because the core diameter is large (e.g., 0.486 mm). A SMA coil actuator is used for large displacement and a magnetic latching system is employed for fixing the position of the shifted POF. For this design, the insertion loss is 0.40 to 0.50 dB and crosstalk is more than -50 dB without index-matching oil. Switching speed is less than 0.5 s at a driving current of 80 mA. A cycling test was performed 1.4 million times at room temperature. Another optical fiber switch was fabricated and successfully actuated using plastic clad fiber (PCF). PCF also has a large core diameter (e.g., 0.20 mm) and optical switches using PCF will be useful for short distance networks between buildings.  相似文献

Three cases of salivary duct carcinoma are presented. They occurred in a 60 year old man, a 66 year old man and a 57 year old woman. All of the lesions were located in the parotid gland. The tumor size ranged from 3 to 5 cm across the largest diameter. Facial paralysis was observed in two cases. Histologically, intraductal and invasive adenocarcinoma showing papillary, cribriform, and solid patterns with comedolike necrosis was observed. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were positive for keratin and epithelial membrane antigen. No myoepithelial cells were demonstrated within the tumor by staining for S-100 protein, alpha-smooth muscle actin or muscle specific actin. Ultrastructurally, intracytoplasmic lumina with microvilli, a moderate number of mitochrondria, lysosomes, and tight junctions were found. Regional lymph node metastasis was observed in one case, and distant metastasis developed in two cases. All of the patients were treated with adjuvant postoperative irradiation. One patient died of disease at 11 months after the initial diagnosis, another was alive with disease at 8 months, and the third patient was alive without disease at 2 years and 3 months. Salivary duct carcinoma should be differentiated from low-grade salivary gland carcinomas using morphologic and clinical criteria because of its poor prognosis even with aggressive therapy.  相似文献

Uterine contractile activity in nonpregnant conscious dogs was investigated based on 2- to 6-mo-long continuous recording by means of a chronically implanted force transducer. We found that nonpregnant uterine contractile activity could be classified into six major patterns: sporadic contractions, weak and strong tonic contractions, weak and strong phasic contractions, and phasic contraction bursts. The contractile patterns during proestrus and estrus were the most active, with strong phasic and tonic contractions and phasic contraction bursts. The phasic and tonic contractions were inhibited dose-dependently by a beta 2 adrenergic agonist, ritodrine, and reproduced by an alpha 2 adrenergic agonist, clonidine. In contrast, the cholinergic inhibitors atropine and hexamethonium did not affect the spontaneous occurrence of these contractions, although bethanechol evoked uterine contractions. Oxytocin and prostaglandin F2 alpha-induced contractions were phasic during estrus, whereas they showed tonic increases with phasic contractions during proestrus, diestrus, and anestrus, and these contractions did not resemble the spontaneous contractions. In conclusion, the nonpregnant uterus contracts continuously in harmony with the estrous cycle phases, and its contractile activity is enhanced by alpha adrenergic receptors and inhibited by beta 2 adrenergic receptors.  相似文献

European criteria for classification of Sj?gren's syndrome have recently been developed and evaluated. We report the clinical and laboratory findings in 96 patients with primary Sj?gren's syndrome who have been classified according to these new criteria. In our patient population the latency from appearance of the first symptom to diagnosis was 11 years. In addition to sicca symptoms in mucous membranes, the dominant symptoms were periodic fatigue (92%), arthralgia (82%), hoarse voice (71%), dry cough (54%) and diarrhoea (51%). Antibodies to the nuclear antigens SSA and SSB were found in respectively 22.2% and 15.6% of the patients. Two out of ten patients with both anti-SSA and anti-SSB antibodies gave birth to a child with heart block.  相似文献

Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex experienced failures of two mercury targets, which were Target #5 and #7, in 2015 when the facility was operating with a proton beam power of 500 kW. The failures involved coolant water leak from the water shroud. In this paper, we investigate the root cause of the Target #5 failure. The results of the visual inspections, mockup tests, and analytical evaluations suggested that the water leak was caused by the possible combination of two incidents. One was the diffusion bonding failure due to the large thermal stress induced by welding of the bolt head during the fabrication process, and the other was the thermal fatigue failure of the seal weld due to the repetitive beam shutdown during beam operation. Though the investigation into the root cause of the Target #7 failure is still going on, these target failures point to the importance of eliminating initial defects and the need to secure the rigidity and stability of welded structures. The next mercury target, Target #8, was fabricated with an improved design and fabrication process to reduce the possibility of similar failures. The beam operation of this mercury target is planned to be started in October 2017.  相似文献

Composite films (CuPc–PPP–TCNQ) were produced by simultaneous deposition using copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) as a carrier generation material, poly(p-phenylene) (PPP) as a hole transport material, and tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) as a incorporation material. Schottky barrier photovoltaic cells, consisting of a semitransparent aluminum and the CuPc–PPP–TCNQ composite films, were fabricated. The junction properties and the photovoltaic properties on Al/CuPc–PPP–TCNQ/ITO sandwich cells were investigated. As well as a composite film of the CuPc and the PPP (CuPc–PPP), the conductivity of the CuPc–PPP–TCNQ composite film is improved as the TCNQ is simultaneously deposited in the CuPc–PPP composite film. Therefore, it is proven that the short circuit photocurrent density (J sc) and the photovoltaic property increases significantly. The J sc of the Al/CuPc–PPP–TCNQ/ITO cell is 2.60 A/cm2, and it is found that the J sc is about 20 times that of an Al/CuPc/ITO cell and double that of an Al/CuPc–PPP/ITO cell. Consequently, the power conversion efficiency of the Al/CuPc–PPP–TCNQ/ITO cell obtained was 3.68%.  相似文献

Human cell surface macrophage colony-stimulating factor (CSF-1256, M-CSF alpha) is converted to a soluble growth factor by a regulated proteolytic cleavage process at amino acid residues 157-159. We have previously shown that multiple factors specified by the juxtamembrane region determine the cleavage efficiency [Deng, P., Rettenmier, C. W., and Pattengale, P. K. (1996) J. Biol. Chem. 271, 16338-16343]. In the present paper, we studied the effect of various deletion, insertion, and substitution mutations at or near the cleavage site on both the number and size of cleaved CSF-1(256) products to identify the mechanisms by which the cleavage sites are selected. Deletion of regions 161-162 or 163-165, C-terminal to the cleavage site, as well as deletion of region 150-156, N-terminal to the cleavage site, each yielded a single cleavage product that was smaller than that derived from the wild type (WT). In these experiments cleavage apparently occurred at a specific distance from the transmembrane domain. Insertion of three additional residues between the normal cleavage site and the transmembrane domain yielded one major product that was the same size as the processed form of WT CSF-1(256). In this case the selection of the cleavage site was apparently determined by the amino acid sequence of the juxtamembrane region rather than by the distance from the transmembrane domain. Other amino acid substitutions at the cleavage site caused changes in cleavage site selection, providing additional evidence for the role of amino acid sequence in cleavage site selection. Finally, a comparison of cleavage site selection in the presence and absence of tunicamycin treatment showed that N-glycosylation of certain mutant forms of CSF-1(256) sterically interfered with protease accessibility, which in turn had an effect on the selection of the site used for cleavage. Taken together, these results indicate that cleavage site selection is determined by the amino acid sequence of the juxtamembrane region, the distance of the site from the transmembrane domain, and steric accessibility of the protease.  相似文献

We previously reported that liposomes composed of phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and fatty acid exhibited pH-dependent leakage, aggregation and fusion (N. Hazemoto, M. Harada, N. Komatubara, M. Haga and Y. Kato, Chem. Pharm. Bull., 38, 748 (1990)). In this study, we have examined the effects of phosphatidylcholine (PC) and cholesterol (Chol) on the pH-sensitivity of liposomes. Contents-leakage from liposomes was always accompanied by a change in light-scattering, suggesting that aggregation or fusion of liposomes causes the leakage. The pH-sensitivity was observed only when liposomes contained less than 32 mol% of PC. The leakage vs. pH curves shifted to the more acidic regions as the PC content of the liposomes increased, but the maximum leakage (%) did not change. The effect of cholesterol on the pH-sensitivity depended on the PC/PE ratio of the liposomes. Addition of cholesterol to PC/PE/oleic acid (OA) liposomes system induced two effects, that is, aggregation of liposomes via the reduction in PC content and the stabilization of the liposomal membrane. It was shown that pH-sensitivity can be controlled by addition of the appropriate amount of PC and/or Chol to liposomal lipids.  相似文献
