Microbial production,structure elucidation and bioconversion of sophorose lipids

Cultivation of Torulopsis bombicola ATCC 22214 on a mixture of glucose and oleic acid (A) or oleic acid alone (B) produced large amounts of sophorose lipids. In the case of A, 38 g/1 of crude product were finally isolated; fermentation B led to 77 g/1. After separation by MPLC and TLC, six glycolipids were obtained and identified by NMR and fast atom bombardment-mass spectrometry (FAB-MS). In general, a 17-hydroxyocta-decanoic acid at the C-1’ -position and acetate groups at the C-6’ -and C-6’ -positions of sophorose were found as substituents in the lactone and acidic forms of these lipids. The composition of product from A was as follows: 62% of sophorolipid 1’,4’ -lactone 6’ ,6’ -diacetate (SL-1), 4% of sophorolipid 1’,4’-lactone 6’-monoacetate (SL-2), 4% of sophorolipid 1’,4 ’-lactone (SL-3), 4% of sophorolipid 1’,6’-and l’,6’-lactones (SL-4a,b), 4% of sophorolipid 6’-monoacetate acid (SL-5), 4% of sophorolipid acid (SL-6) and finally 17% of other lipids. In B, the principal lactone (40%) had a double bond in the fatty acid moiety; the other components were identical with the above products. Yields of 13% SL-2 and of 35% lipids containing no carbohydrate were significant. SL-1 was deacetylated to SL-3 (yield: 25-307c) using acetyl-esterase in a two-phase system (cyclohexane/water). Synthesizing fast, online-testable control units

The authors present the self-checking bypass pipeline, an online-testable controller structure for data-dominated applications. For most circuits in a standard benchmark set, this structure leads to a performance improvement of more than 30% with an area overhead less than 15% that of conventional online-testable finite-state machines     

Modellierung reaktiver Stoffaustauschprozesse

The design of reactive exchange processes is generally accomplished with the aid of the enhancement factor, whose calculation is frequently possible only by iterative and approximate methods. In contrast, a mathematical model linking microscopic reaction-diffusion equations with macroscopic phase balances permits direct calculation of absorption. Complication reaction pathways and non-linear phase equilibria can then also be considered without making simplifying assumptions. The influence of liquid phase viscosity on exchange parameters can be quantified and included in model calculations by coupling the more comprehensive film penetration theory and the theory of isotropic turbulence. Simulations not only demonstrate the influence of the system and operating parameters on absorption but also indicate the importance of the choice of excange model in systems with conversiondependent liquid phase viscosity.

The paper develops elementary formulas for the synthesis of straight-line linkages of Watt's type by optimizing a quintic which approximates the flat part of Watt's coupler sextic.

Schnittholzvermessung und Klassifizierung in Nordamerika

Zusammenfassung Die Vermessung und Klassifizierung von „Hardwood Lumber”, worunter nach dem englischen Sprachgebrauch alles ges?gte Laubholz zu verstehen ist, erfolgt in den Vereinigten Slaaten und Canada einheittlich nach den Regeln der „National Hardwood Lumber Association”. In der folgenden Arbeit wird ein Auszug aus diesen Bestimmungen gegeben, der vor allem die Grundprinzipien dieser Vermessungsmethode erkl?ren soll.     

Isocyanate als Spanplattenbindemittel

Zusammenfassung Holzspanwerkstoffe für den Hochbau werden überwiegend unter Verwendung von alkalisch h?rtenden Phenolformaldehyd-harzen hergestellt. Isocyanate sind ebenfalls als Bindemittel für die Herstellung derartiger Platten geeignet. Für ihren Einsatz ist jedoch die Anwendung eines bestimmten “know how” erforderlich. Bei der Verfahrenstechnik ist die Klebegefahr ein besonderes Problem. Isocyanatverleimte Spanplatten weisen bei vergleichbaren Beleimungsfaktoren gute Festigkeitseigenschaften auf. Die hydrophobierende Wirkung der Isocyanate ist bei der Spanplattenherstellung ein besonderer Vorteil. Sie lassen auch eine Herstellung als Plattentype V 100 G im Sinne der bauaufsichtlichen Bestimmungen zu. In Kombination mit Carbamidharzen als auch für die Verleimung von Sp?nen aus Einjahresplfanzen sind sie anwendbar.

Isocyanates as adhesives for particle board

Summary Wood-based products for building constructions are primarily manufactured with alkaline setting phenol formaldehyde resins. Isocyanates can also be used as binding agents in the production of such boards. Their application, however, requires a special know-how. Stickiness is one of the major technological problems. Particleboards glued with isocyanates show good strength values with comparable glue factors. The hydrophobing effects of isocyanates are of particular advantage in particleboard production. They may also be used in the production of the board type V 100 G specified in the official building regulations. Isocyanates may be used in combination with carbamide resins and for glueing chips from one year old plants.
