Airborne endotoxin concentrations in indoor and outdoor particulate matter and their predictors in an urban city 下载免费PDF全文
Endotoxins are an important biological component of particulate matter and have been associated with adverse effects on human health. There have been some recent studies on airborne endotoxin concentrations. We collected fine (PM2.5) and coarse (PM10‐2.5) particulate matter twice on weekdays and weekends each for 48 hour, inside and outside 55 homes in an urban city in Japan. Endotoxin concentrations in both fractions were measured using the kinetic Limulus Amebocyte Lysate assay. The relationships between endotoxin concentrations and household characteristics were evaluated for each fraction. Both indoor and outdoor endotoxin concentrations were higher in PM2.5 than in PM10‐2.5. In both PM2.5 and PM10‐2.5, indoor endotoxin concentrations were higher than outdoor concentrations, and the indoor endotoxin concentrations significantly correlated with outdoor concentrations in each fraction (R2=0.458 and 0.198, respectively). Indoor endotoxin concentrations in PM2.5 were significantly higher in homes with tatami or carpet flooring and in homes with pets, and lower in homes that used air purifiers. Indoor endotoxin concentrations in PM10‐2.5 were significantly higher in homes with two or more children and homes with tatami or carpet flooring. Photo-induced graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate on oxidized poly(vinyl alcohol) fiber was investigated. Oxidation of the fiber sample with sodium hypochlorite or periodic acid led the radical formation by photo-irradiation to intensify markedly. ESR spectra of the irradiated oxidized sample proved that a considerable amount of triplet component radical was contained in it, whereas the unoxidized sample mostly indicated a singlet. The spectra found in the irradiated unoxidized sample was assigned to two radicals, I and II, and for the oxidized sample, to III and IV. The spectrum for I must be a singlet, and a triplet for II, III, and IV. Among the last three, II was less stable toward heat. Effects of residual pores and optical birefringence on transmission through translucent polycrystalline alumina have been studied with the Mie scattering theory. The in-line and total forward transmissions of the translucent polycrystalline alumina were simulated as a function of porosity, pore radius, and grain size. The model revealed that porosity has a significant effect on both the total forward scattering and the in-line transmission, whereas grain size affects only in-line transmission. The calculated transmittance is in good agreement with the experimental values. The in-line transmission gradually increased with a decrease in grain size, and the effect of birefringence on the total forward transmission is negligible in the visible spectrum. The total forward transmission in the visible spectrum is mainly governed by residual pores. 相似文献

A process of homoepitaxial growth of diamond (111) films by microwave plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition has been investigated characterizing areas by ex-situ atomic force microscopy. The evolution of surface morphology during a lateral growth of (111) diamond was visualized utilizing a mesa structure as a marker. The spray-jet molecular beam apparatus enabled us to produce a molecular beam of non-volatile molecules under high vacuum from a sprayed mist of sample solutions. The apparatus has been used in spectroscopic studies and as a means of molecular beam deposition. We analyzed the molecular beam, consisting of non-volatile, solvent, and carrier-gas molecules, by using femtosecond- and nanosecond- laser mass spectroscopy. Periodic flooding alters riverine vegetation community composition; moderate flood disturbance maintains communities at an early seral stage, whereas severe floods may remove entire communities. After disturbance, plants may recolonize riverbeds from refugia.Here, we investigated the morphological characteristics of refugia where riverine plants survived large floods. At three sites, plant communities growing on cobble-bars were surveyed, and the hydraulic characteristics of each site were analyzed. The populations of an indicator plant, Anaphalis margaritacea sub-species yedoensis (Franch. et Savat.) were assessed after major floods in 2004 and 2009. At each survey, the particle size and bed composition were measured, and the critical shear-stress required to move particles at each site was calculated. A one-dimensional flow and the average and local shear-stress at ten different discharges, including that of the largest flood were calculated. The results demonstrate that the A. margaritacea community is maintained at locations where the local shear-stress at peak discharge in large-floods does not exceed a critical value. These conditions were achieved in locations with particular morphological characteristics, where the river is not constrained by levees and is restricted by a downstream narrow-pass; in this reach river width increases with discharge thus limiting the increase in water depth with increasing discharge and allowing the establishment of refugia where plant species may survive large floods.Flooding and reestablishment from refugia maintain a characteristic riverbed community in equilibrium. 相似文献

The voltage variation in a remote system is large when the system is connected by long‐distance AC cables due to the cable capacitance. In Japan, the longest 54‐km 66‐kV AC submarine cable interconnection between the Kyushu mainland and Goto Islands was commissioned in 2005. It was requested to mitigate the voltage variation caused by switching off and on one circuit of the two circuits in the AC cables when a fault occurs. Since the conventional voltage control methods such as transformer tap changer or shunt capacitor and reactor banks are not sufficient because of their slow response time, a static var compensator (SVC) was installed on the Goto Islands. In such an application, an SVC control method should be developed so as not to override the existing voltage control systems. This paper describes the SVC control method developed for the Goto Islands AC interconnection project, which can be applied to similar situations. A case study of the application of a distributed control scheme to a power system control is presented. In addition, an investigation has been conducted into voltage control. Combined injection of VAr-compensating devices controlled by distributed expert systems has been proposed as a measure to maintain voltage stability in a power system under heavy loading conditions.
