Equipment has been developed to transport self supporting target films in vacuo at high speeds. The targets may be transferred over 3 m in less than 2 s and are gently accelerated and decelerated. In addition, the targets are accurately positioned at each end to within 25 μm. Non-magnetic materials are used throughout and wear is reduced so that 500 000 transfers should be possible without loss of accuracy or reliability. Such a system should have many applications for on-line experiments using short-lived isotopes. Prototype construction and testing are described.  相似文献

Throughout Europe there is an increasing trend of connecting high penetrations of wind turbines to the transmission networks. This has resulted in transmission system operators revising their grid code documents for the connection of large wind farms. These specifications require large MW capacity wind farms to have the ability to assist in some of the power system control services currently carried out by conventional synchronous generation. These services include voltage and frequency control. It is now recognized that much of this new wind generation plant will use either fixed speed induction generator (FSIG)‐ or doubly fed induction generator (DFIG)‐based wind turbines. The addition of a control loop to synthesize inertia in the DFIG wind turbine using the power electronic control system has been described. The possibility of deloading wind turbines for frequency response using blade pitch angle control is discussed. A pitch control scheme to provide frequency response from FSIG and DFIG wind turbines is also described. A case study of an FSIG wind turbine with frequency response capabilities is investigated. Developments in the determination and analytical representation of creep crack growth property data during the past 30 years are reviewed. The testing and data analysis of weldments involve additional complexities, and these are appraised with respect to low alloy steel weldments. Creep crack initiation and growth properties are dependent on creep deformation and rupture ductility characteristics. Consideration is given to the relationship between these properties using data determined for a ½Cr½ Mo¼V/2½CrMo pipe joint.  相似文献

Creep-fatigue assessment procedures for the design of high-temperature components should ensure lifetime predictions which are safe but not excessively conservative. Adoption of more accurate assessment procedures than are presently available enable the availability of power plant with greater operating flexibility. Operating flexibility is becoming a key market driver due to the increased interest in the use of intermittent renewable energy sources (e.g. wind, solar) which place focus on a requirement for turbo-machinery to be capable of reduced start-up and shut-down times. This study introduces a creep-fatigue assessment procedure for the design of high-temperature components required for flexible operation. In particular, it considers alloys with high creep-fatigue deformation/damage interaction characteristics such as the advanced martensitic 9–11%Cr steels which are widely used for power plant applications. The procedure takes advantages of advanced constitutive models and implements them in a state-of-the-art mechanical assessment procedure for calculating high-temperature component life times.  相似文献

Two miniaturised creep testing techniques have been applied to a polycrystalline Ni-based superalloy employed for gas turbine blades and vanes. The test campaign was conducted on as-delivered material to assess both testing techniques and evaluate their effectiveness in determining creep residual life and creep residual properties of operated material. The first technique involved small size uniaxial creep testing, conducted on samples with a diameter lower than 3 mm. The diameter effect was deeply studied and a calibration was done to correlate results from standard creep test pieces with those from small diameter samples. The second technique involved the small punch creep test, and the assessment on virgin material enabled determination of the correlation factor, ksp, to compare small punch test results with uniaxial creep tests. All the collected results were related to the coarse grain macrostructure that characterises this class of alloys and that increases the scatter of the collected experimental results.  相似文献

Incidence of infection time-series data for the childhood diseases measles, chicken pox, rubella and whooping cough are described in the language of multifractals. We explore the potential of using the wavelet transform maximum modulus (WTMM) method to characterize the multiscale structure of the observed time series and of simulated data generated by the stochastic susceptible-exposed-infectious-recovered (SEIR) epidemic model. The singularity spectra of the observed time series suggest that each disease is characterized by a unique multifractal signature, which distinguishes that particular disease from the others. The wavelet scaling functions confirm that the time series of measles, rubella and whooping cough are clearly multifractal, while chicken pox has a more monofractal structure in time. The stochastic SEIR epidemic model is unable to reproduce the qualitative singularity structure of the reported incidence data: it is too smooth and does not appear to have a multifractal singularity structure. The precise reasons for the failure of the SEIR epidemic model to reproduce the correct multiscale structure of the reported incidence data remain unclear.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Despite widespread use of aminosalicylates as maintenance treatment for ulcerative colitis (UC), patients still report troublesome symptoms, often nocturnally. AIM: To compare the efficacy and safety of balsalazide (Colazide) with mesalazine (Asacol) in maintaining UC remission. METHODS: A randomized, double-blind comparison of balsalazide 3 g daily (1.04 g 5-ASA) and mesalazine 1.2 g daily for 12 months, in 99 (95 evaluable) patients in UC remission. RESULTS: Balsalazide patients experienced more asymptomatic nights (90% vs. 77%, P=0.0011) and days (58% vs. 50%, N.S.) during the first 3 months. Balsalazide patients experienced more symptom-free nights per week (6.4+/-1.7 vs. 4.7+/-2.8; P=0.0006) and fewer nights per week with blood on their stools or on the toilet paper, mucus with their stools or with sleep disturbance resulting from symptoms or lavatory visits (each P < 0.05). Fewer balsalazide patients relapsed within 3 months (10% vs. 28%; P=0.0354). Remission at 12 months was 58%, in both groups. Similar proportions of patients reported adverse events (61% balsalazide vs. 65% mesalazine). There were five serious adverse events (two balsalazide, three mesalazine) and four withdrawals due to unacceptable adverse events (three balsalazide, one mesalazine), of which one in each group was also a serious adverse event. CONCLUSIONS: Balsalazide 3 g/day and mesalazine 1.2 g/ day effectively maintain UC remission and are equally well tolerated over 12 months. At this dose balsalazide prevents more relapses during the first 3 months of treatment and controls nocturnal symptoms more effectively.  相似文献
