This study investigated the effectiveness of massive multiplayer online role‐playing game (MMORPG)‐based (massive multiplayer online role‐playing game) instruction in elementary English education. The effectiveness of the MMORPG program was compared with face‐to‐face instruction and the independent variables (gender, prior knowledge, motivation for learning, self‐directed learning skills, computer skills, game skills, computer capacity, network speed, and computer accessibility) were examined to see how accurately achievement was predicted in MMORPG instruction. The results indicated that students studying English utilizing online role‐playing games showed higher scores in areas of listening, reading, and writing than those who attended face‐to‐face instruction classes. It was also found that prior knowledge, motivation for learning, and network speed were factors affecting achievement in English learning. These findings suggest that MMORPGs can play an important role in improving English communicative skills.  相似文献

We look into the linked decision making in the vendor-managed inventory (VMI) relationship. It is a supply chain management model, where the retailer decides the retail price while the vendor determines its capacity commitment. In this model, the retailer and the vendor should coordinate their decisions in order to maximize their individual profit or the total profit combining the two participants together. The vendor has to take into account the demand pattern throughout the product life cycle (PLC) when it decides its capacity commitment, which will affect its inventory management cost during the PLC, while the retailer should change the retail price over the PLC so as to maximize the revenues and minimize the inventory cost at the same time. Employing a system dynamics simulation approach based on differential game theory, which also takes into account the product characteristics such as the demand’s innovation and imitation effects, we analyze and confirm the dynamic coordination of key decision variables by the supply chain partners in the VMI relationship.  相似文献

This paper considers ‘two-stage’ call centers where some incoming calls are completed by first service while others require an additional second service. Although this type of call center is not uncommon, it has not been dealt with, if any, in the call center literature. In this paper, we introduce the concept of the ‘two-stage’ call center and discuss its features. Furthermore, we develop an effective outsourcing strategy in ‘two-stage’ call centers. To this end, we model ‘two-stage’ service system and propose several call routing structures. The structures are compared through numerical test and conventional queueing theories form the theoretical basis of our study.  相似文献

The MASC (Multiple ASsociative Computing) model is a multi-SIMD model that uses control parallelism to coordinate the interaction of data parallel threads and supports associative SIMD computing on each of its threads. There have been a wide range of algorithms developed for this model. Research on using this model in real-time system applications and building a scalable MASC architecture is currently quite active. In this paper, we present simulations between MASC and reconfigurable bus-based models, e.g., various versions of the Reconfigurable Multiple Bus Machine (RMBM). Constant time simulations of the basic RMBM by MASC and vice versa are obtained. Simulations of the segmenting RMBM, fusing RMBM, and extended RMBM by MASC in non-constant time are also discussed. By taking advantage of previously established relationships between RMBM and two other popular parallel computational models, namely, the Reconfigurable Mesh (RM) and the Parallel Random Access Machine (PRAM), we extend our simulation results to further categorize the power of the MASC model in relation to RM and PRAM.  相似文献

Drawing upon the Entertainment–Education paradigm, this study evaluated the effectiveness of a computer-aided interactive test designed for stress management education targeting college students. The presence (vs. absence) of a virtual agent incorporated into the interactive test was proposed as the key factor that induces enjoyment and educational outcomes. The interactive test consisted of scenarios describing stressful situations that could occur in college students’ everyday lives. Furthermore, college students could relate the concerns raised by these hypothetical situations to the ways they manage their stress and mental health. After the student’s choice behavior in each scenario, a virtual agent conveyed health-related educational messages via a text-modal dialogue box. Participants who took the interactive test in which there was a virtual agent perceived the test as more educational and entertaining than those who took the test without a virtual agent. Results of a path analysis also revealed a significant mediating role of enjoyment on educational outcomes (i.e., students’ enjoyment of the interactive test mediated the effects of the presence of a virtual agent on their perceived educational value of health information), thus confirming the Entertainment–Education link. In addition, engaging in the interactive test resulted in stress management self-efficacy improvement. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.  相似文献

The planar Hall effect (PHE) sensor with a junction size of 3 μm × 3 μm for a single micro-bead detection has been fabricated successfully using a typical spin-valve thin film Ta(5)/NiFe(16)/Cu(1.2)/NiFe(2)/IrMn(15)/Ta(5) nm. The PHE sensor exhibits a sensitivity of about 7.2 μV Oe?1 in the magnetic field range of ±7 Oe approximately. We have performed an experiment to illustrated the possibility of single micro-bead detection by using a PHE sensor. A single micro-bead of 2.8 μm diameter size is secluded from 0.1% dilute solution of the Dynabeads® M-280 dropped on the sensor surface and is located on the sensor junction by using a micro magnetic needle. The comparison of the PHE voltage profiles in the field range from 0 to 20 Oe in the absence and presence of a single micro-bead identifies a single Dynabeads® M-280, the maximal signal change as large as ΔV  1.1 μV can be obtained at the field ~6.6 Oe. The results are well described in terms of the reversal of a basic single domain structure.  相似文献

Various types of polymer surfaces with a nanolens array, which has an entrant shape with a low aspect ratio, were fabricated and the wettability of the fabricated surfaces was evaluated in both theoretical and experimental ways. The nanolens array was replicated on three different polymer surfaces of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), cyclic olefin copolymer (COC), and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) by means of replica molding and hot embossing with a nanodimpled aluminum mold that was manufactured by a chemical oxidation process. From the theoretical and experimental evaluations of the wettability it was found that the measured contact angles were very similar with the theoretically estimated ones and also the hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity of the hydrophilic PMMA and hydrophobic PDMS, respectively, surfaces were reinforced by the nanolens array within the Wenzel wetting state.  相似文献

In this study, we have designed and fabricated robust hydrophobic surfaces that are composed of various micropillar arrays and investigated the effect of the aspect ratio (feature height/feature size) of the micropillar on the wettability of the fabricated surfaces. The robust, micropillar-arrayed surfaces were designed to yield the same Wenzel and Cassie water contact angles (CAs). According to our design rule, one can achieve an enhanced hydrophobic surface by increasing the height of the micropillars. The designed hydrophobic surfaces were fabricated by polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) replica molding with photolithographically micropatterned SU-8 masters. The hydrophobicity properties of the fabricated PDMS surfaces were fully characterized theoretically and experimentally. From the theoretical and experimental results, it was found that the micropillars of an intrinsically hydrophobic material with a high aspect ratio enhance the hydrophobicity of the surface by increasing the surface roughness (in view of the Wenzel state) and the opportunities for the entrapment of air beneath a water droplet (the Cassie state).  相似文献
