Poly(ether‐block‐amide) (PEBA) films were grafted with acrylic acid (AAc) by gamma radiation, using the oxidative pre‐irradiation technique. The effect of dose, monomer concentration, temperature, and reaction time on the graft percentage of AAc onto PEBA was studied. The modified material PEBA‐g‐AAc was characterized by Fourier infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy, and water contact angle. It was found that PEBA films did not suffer degradation at low doses (<30 kGy) during the grafting process. Additionally, PEBA‐g‐AAc was proved as drug delivery system using vancomycin as drug model. The PEBA‐g‐AAc with 39 and 98% of AAc loaded 63 and 98 mg g?1, respectively. The release profiles showed a sustained delivery by 48 h with a partial retention of drug, which depends of grafting percentage. The microbiological tests showed that PEBA‐g‐AAc was able to inhibit the growing of Staphylococcus aureus in three consecutive challenges. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Mesoporous type-MCM-48 silica was grafted with polyacrylamide (PAAm) by using an azo-type initiator. The effect of monomer and initiator concentrations, reaction time, and temperature were evaluated to determine the optimal grafting conditions. Functionalized MCM-48 silicas were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, nitrogen adsorption–desorption analyses, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) which confirmed the grafting process. According to XRD, SEM and TEM results, PAAm-modified MCM-48 silica did not show changes in its morphology and mesostructure by comparing with pristine MCM-48. Also, modified silicas were tested as delivery system using nalidixic acid as drug model. MCM-48-PAAm silicas were able to load more significant amounts of nalidixic acid than the unmodified MCM-48, and showed a sustained delivery behaviour, releasing about 80% of drug. 相似文献

In vitro biomineralization process was investigated on functionalized single wall nanotube (SWNT) films. The films were prepared by solvent casting method by using carboxylated and fluorinated nanotubes. SWNT films were characterized by means of electron microscopy, contact angle measurements and optical absorption. The in vitro assays were performed on cultured human alveolar bone-derived cells (HABDC) to determine the capabilities of carboxylated single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs-COOH) and fluorinated single-walled nanotubes (F-SWNTs) to promote the deposit of mineral-like tissue. The results showed that the cellular response of HABDC in secreting a mineralized extracellular matrix and their consequent mineralization is dependent on the degree of functionalization of the SWNTs. Differences were found related to the kind of sidewall functionalization. Both structures promoted hydroxyapatite formation, however, calcium uptake on SWNTs-COOH increased and it was related to crystal density. From our results, it is possible to infer that CNT functionalization opens a path to future developments in new bone graft materials and techniques. 相似文献

Nonthermal Food Processing Alternatives and Their Effects on Taste and Flavor Compounds of Beverages

Food drinks are normally processed to increase their shelf-life and facilitate distribution before consumption. Thermal pasteurization is quite efficient in preventing microbial spoilage of many types of beverages, but the applied heat may also cause undesirable biochemical and nutritious changes that may affect sensory attributes of the final product. Alternative methods of pasteurization that do not include direct heat have been investigated in order to obtain products safe for consumption, but with sensory attributes maintained as unchanged as possible. Food scientists interested in nonthermal food preservation technologies have claimed that such methods of preserving foods are equally efficient in microbial inactivation as compared with conventional thermal means of food processing. Researchers in the nonthermal food preservation area also affirm that alternative preservation technologies will not affect, as much as thermal processes, nutritional and sensory attributes of processed foods. This article reviews research in nonthermal food preservation, focusing on effects of processing of food drinks such as fruit juices and dairy products. Analytical techniques used to identify volatile flavor-aroma compounds will be reviewed and comparative effects for both thermal and nonthermal preservation technologies will be discussed. 相似文献

The <e‐Aula> platform is a new experimental e‐learning environment that adheres closely to IMS Global Learning Consortium, Inc. e‐learning standards in order to facilitate their applicability in different learning scenarios. <e‐Aula> is equipped with an integrated modular and extensible architecture for the authoring of IMS‐compliant learning materials focused on the IMS manifest. This manifest‐driven architecture facilitates maintenance and promotes the evolution of the authoring system in <e‐Aula>, both of which are mandatory requirements in the successful production and maintenance of content for many different specialized learning domains. The pressure-volume analogy between compressible fluids and macroscopic sand bodies (Ivsic et al. in Phys A, 277:47–61, 2000) is further extended using quantitative determination of corresponding empirical constants based on adapted van der Waals state equation. The isothermal constants obtained by interpretation of triaxial sand tests at so called “critical state of sand” are clearly related to the universal ideal gas properties and molar properties of mineral sands. The corresponding constants for sand and gases or other volatile liquids have the same order of magnitude. The apparent bulk repulsion/attraction effects in sand bodies are also discussed. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThis paper reports an extension of the program MEXICA, an automatic plot generator. The purpose of this project is to build a framework that permits studying the relations between MEXICA’s processes, its knowledge structures and the features of the produced narratives. We describe a methodology to analyse the features of the agent’s knowledge-base, to further establish correlations between such features and a set of general characteristics of the tales that they produce. Next, we make use of those correlations to forecast some properties of the future tales to be developed by different MEXICAs agents with different knowledge-bases. For this task, we introduce the S-graphs, representations of the similarity and organisation of the knowledge-structures. The results we obtained indicate that we are able to correctly forecast some of the features of tales to be produced; however, much more work is required. 相似文献

We describe similarities and differences between complementary-code-key (CCK) modulation and modulation that is derived from biorthogonal signals, and we present performance results and other information that may be useful to those who have applications for CCK modulation that do not require IEEE 802.11b compliance. The properties and performance of the highrate IEEE CCK 802.11b modulation formats are investigated and compared with the properties and performance of alternative modulation formats that are based on biorthogonal signals. Several complementary properties are derived for the full-rate (11 Mb/s) CCK signal set, the half-rate (5.5 Mb/s) CCK signal set, a full-rate signal set obtained from biorthogonal signals, and a half-rate biorthogonal signal set. Each signal set is a complementary set, but each also has stronger complementary properties. We evaluate the performance of IEEE 802.11b standard CCK modulation, CCK with certain modifications that depart from the IEEE standard, and modulation that is derived from biorthogonal signals. Performance comparisons are presented for additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels and for channels with specular multipath. In particular, for AWGN channels, we provide an accurate analytical approximation for the frame error probability for full-rate CCK modulation. 相似文献
