A detailed quantitative microstructural analyses of primarily open cell FeCrAlY and 314 stainless steel metal foams with different relative densities and pores per inch (p.p.i.) were undertaken in the present investigation to determine the effect of microstructural parameters on the relative densities of metal foams. Several elements of the microstructure, such as major and minor cell sizes, cell areas and perimeters, ligament dimensions, cell shapes, and area fractions of closed and open cells, were measured. The cross-sections of the foam ligaments showed numerous pores, and their circularity factors and average sizes were determined. The area fractions of the open cells and ligaments decreased, whereas that of the closed cells increased linearly with increasing relative density. The relative densities and p.p.i. were not significantly dependent on cell size, cell perimeter, and ligament dimensions within the limits of experimental scatter. A phenomenological model is proposed to rationalize the present microstructural observations.  相似文献

Carbon nanotubes are quasi one-dimensional nanostructures with unique eletrical prroperties that make them prime candidates for molecular electronics, which is certainly a most promising direction in nanotechnology. Early theoretical works predicted that the electronic properties of "ideal" carbon nanotubes depend on their diameter and chirality. However, carbon nanotubes are probably not as perfect as they were once thought to be. Defects such as pentagons, heptagons, vacancies, or dopant are found to modify drastically the electronic properties of these nanosystems. Irradiation processes can lead to interesting, highly defective nanostructures and also to the coalescence of nanotubes within a rope. The introduction of defects in the carbon network is thus an interesting way to tailor its intrinsic properties, to create new potential nanodevices. The aim of the present Acount is to investigate theoretically the effects of different types of defects on the electronic properties of carbon nanotubes, and to propose new potential applications in nanoelectronics.  相似文献

An algorithm based on the Monte Carlo method is developed to solve the radiative transfer equation in the reflective domain (0.4-4 mum) of the solar spectrum over rugged terrain. This algorithm takes into account relief, spatial heterogeneity, and ground bidirectional reflectance. The method permits the computation of irradiance components at ground level and radiance terms reaching an airborne or satelliteborne sensor. The Monte Carlo method consists of statistically simulating the paths of photons inside the Earth-atmosphere system to reproduce physical phenomena while introducing neither analytical modeling nor assumption. The potentialities of the code are then depicted over different types of landscape, including a seashore, a desert region, and a steep mountainous valley.  相似文献

In the past several decades, many lateral track buckling studies have been conducted in an effort to determine an allowable safe temperature increase for preventing the occurrence of buckling. The present analysis builds on some of these studies, but uses recently derived frame-type equations that more accurately represent the response of the rail-tie structure in the lateral plane. The presented analysis takes into account the effects of the torsional stiffness of the rail fasteners, the lateral bending stiffness of the cross-ties, and the track gauge to model more accurately the lateral response of the track panel to temperature increases. It determines effective ways to raise the allowable safe temperature increase, whether by increasing the axial and lateral resistances or by increasing the rotational stiffness of the fasteners. Also, the effect of lateral tie-stiffness on the safe temperature increase is examined.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: With a proportionate attributable risk approach, to estimate the magnitude of premature mortality induced by exposure to hazardous substances in the Australian workforce. METHODS: Estimates of the magnitude of mortality induced by exposure to hazardous substances in the Australian work-force were calculated by the proportionate attributable risk approach after careful consideration of options for methodological refinements. The main data sources used were unit mortality datasets (individual deidentified death records), and tabulations when these were unavailable. RESULTS: The estimated number of deaths that occurred in Australia each year from occupational exposure to hazardous substances was 2290; 78% of these were men. The rate of mortality attributable to occupational exposure to hazardous substances was three to four times greater in male workers than in female workers. Male (productive) person-years of life lost (PYLL) were generally eight times higher than female PYLL. Cancer was the prime cause of death, followed by renal, cardiovascular, neurological, and chronic respiratory disease. Acute toxic episodes accounted for a small proportion of mortality but yielded a much larger proportion of PYLL, reflecting the relatively young ages of those who experienced fatal effects. CONCLUSIONS: Although national estimates of the proportions of mortality attributable to occupational exposure to hazardous substances seemed to be validly derived, uncertainties remain associated with the lack of an empirical basis for derivation of proportionate risk fractions used in the calculations. The finding of an appreciable burden of mortality that is attributable to past occupational exposure to hazardous substances emphasises the necessity for occupational health and safety authorities to measure and reduce worksite exposures. There is also an incentive to encourage the construction of appropriately designed cohort studies across industries and occupational groupings so that, ultimately, risk estimates may be directly calculated and applied to total workforce data for the definitive estimation of the magnitude of harm induced by occupational exposure to hazardous substances.  相似文献

The eutectic alloys Al-Al2Cu and Al-Al3Ni have been unidirectionally solidified at rates from 1.05 to 6.80 in, per min by a semicontinuous casting technique, and then tested in tension at room temperature. In both alloys the flow stress and ultimate tensile strength increased with increasing solidification rate, except for the highest solidification rate. The increases in matrix work-hardening rate with solidification rate were too great to be accounted for by dislocation pileup mechanisms, but were found to correlate with elastic constraint effects of the matrix aluminum phase by the reinforcing phases. In the Al-Al2Cu eutectic the strength of the Al2Cu platelets increased as the platelet width decreased with increasing growth rate. Misalignment of the composite caused by either a cellular or a macroscopically concave solid-liquid interface resulted in a decrease in the ultimate strength, especially in the rod-like Al-Al3Ni alloy. This has been related to the fracture behavior of the composites. The very low fracture toughness of the lamellar Al-Al2Cu eutectic is consistent with models of composite materials, and seriously limits the alloy’s usefulness for engineering applications.  相似文献

A significant enhancement of the single-shot laser-induced damage threshold of CaF2 and fused silica and a moderate enhancement for GaAs and Al has been observed as the result of laser annealing using an excimer laser operating at 248 nm.
