Two-step seismic limit state design procedure based on non-linear LRFD and dynamic response analyses 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Recently, the limit state design (LSD) or performance-based design have got popularity in the field of building design in Japan as well as in other countries. In the two design methods the structural reliability theory plays an essential role in setting design criteria as well as demonstrating the target reliability level to society. However, the conventional load and resistance factor design (LRFD) has been basically formulated supposing that safety checking is done on the basis of linear assumption of member forces and displacement. Therefore, when applying the LRFD for seismic design, for more accurate treatment of the non-linearity, a new procedure has to be explored especially for the ultimate limit state. Although several procedures for the structural reliability evaluation, treating non-linear displacement responses, have been proposed, they require complex procedures that may not be used in the practical design process. Accordingly, for applying it to a seismic LSD format based on the probabilistic concept, it is essential to manage two important requirements at the same time, accuracy and simplicity of procedure. In the present study, a new design format using the following two-step procedure is proposed to maintain both accuracy and simplicity; (1) a non-linear LRFD formulation, and (2) a formulation based on non-linear dynamic response analysis. This paper characterizes the relationship between occupant activities and indoor air particulate levels in a non-smoking office building. Occupant activities were recorded on video. Particulate concentrations were monitored by three optical particle counters (OPCs) in five size ranges at three heights. Particulate mass concentrations were measured gravimetrically and bioaerosol concentrations were determined by impaction methods. Occupant activities and number concentrations were determined with 1-min resolution over a 1-week period. Occupant activities such as walking past or visiting the monitoring site explained 24-55% of the variation of 1- to 25-micron diameter particle number concentrations. Statistical models associating particulate concentrations with occupant activities depended on the size fraction and included an autocorrelative term. Occupant activities are estimated to contribute up to 10 micrograms m-3 in particulate concentrations per person. Number concentrations of particles smaller than 1 micron had little correlation with indoor activities other than cigarette smoking and were highly correlated with outdoor levels. The method can be used to characterize emissions from activities if rapid measurements can be made and if activities can be coded from the video record. 相似文献

Hundreds of oysters and mud samples from 15 sites along the Tamar River were analysed for cadmium, copper, zinc, lead and chromium. The widely accepted concept of enrichment factors of up to several hundred thousand, describing accumulation by oysters of cadmium, zinc and copper from seawater has been found to be grossly misleading. Concentrations found for these three metals in oysters were only 10–40 times the concentrations in inhabited muds. Concentrations of metals in muds may be used to indicate whether a potential oyster bed would produce oysters that were grossly contaminated. Approximately 1 ppm cadmium in mud could result in oysters containing at least 25 ppm, i.e. 4–5 ppm wet wt. Similarly. 100 ppm zinc in mud could produce oysters containing at least 4000 ppm. i.e. 800–1000 ppm wet wt. Three heavy metal accumulation processes were discernible. Copper and chromium appeared to be absorbed up to a maximum weight that was limited by the size of the oyster and was independent of the amount of metal in the mud. Lead was not absorbed through any physiological demand, but was randomly incorporated at sites containing high concentrations in the mud. Zinc and cadmium were accumulated by a process that depended primarily on the concentrations of these metals in the mud at each site. Mean dry wt concentrations of metals in oysters and mud samples ranged from: 4.2–134 ppm and 0·4 to 5·7 ppm cadmium; 200–1700 ppm and 3–224 ppm copper: 0 135 ppm and 4–1500 ppm lead: 1–37 ppm and 2–88 ppm chromium; 1700 14.000 ppm and 20–500 ppm zinc. respectively. 相似文献

The performance of laboratory scale methanol-degrading biofilters packed with lava rock was checked during almost 1 yr under different conditions. The biomass concentration and biomass adaptation of the inoculum dramatically affected the start-up and the performance of the systems during the first stages of operation. A fast start-up was obtained when using concentrated and adapted inocula, while diluted or non-adapted inocula proved to be much less efficient. The performance of the reactor during long-term operation was significantly affected by the toxic load and moisture content of the gas. Critical loads between 120 and 280 g/m(3)h were reached during different phases of the study. The reactor had a high stability to EBRT changes when working at values between 48.0 and 91.1s, showing little or no negative effect when decreasing the EBRT. Hardly any difference was observed regarding performance when using either a downflow or upflow feed, although slightly better results were obtained when working in a downflow mode. 相似文献

This paper presents an extension of the Activated Sludge Model No. 2d (ASM2d) including a chemical model able to calculate the pH value in biological processes. The developed chemical model incorporates the complete set of chemical species affecting the pH value to ASM2d describing non-equilibrium biochemical processes. It considers the system formed by one aqueous phase, in which biochemical processes take place, and one gaseous phase, and is based on the assumptions of instantaneous chemical equilibrium under liquid phase and kinetically governed mass transport between the liquid and gas phase. The ASM2d enlargement comprises the addition of every component affecting the pH value and an ion-balance for the calculation of the pH value and the dissociation species. The significant pH variations observed in a sequencing batch reactor operated for enhanced biological phosphorus removal were used to verify the capability of the extended model for predicting the dynamics of pH jointly with concentrations of acetic acid and phosphate. A pH inhibition function for polyphosphate accumulating bacteria has also been included in the model to simulate the behaviour observed. Contact flocculation-filtration of humic dispersions with alum in medium grain (0.62 mm) sand gave short runs to breakthrough, while in coarse (1.2 mm) media clarification was inefficient. Alum with cationic polymer gave in coarse media acceptable runs, but shorter then for mineral dispersions. Analysis of results by parameters of existing filtration models showed that using the Ives-Iwasaki model and plotting filtration coefficient λ vs specific deposit σ gave different λmax for different polymer dose, plot of λmax vs dose goes through maximum at optimum dose.Plotting the cube root of headloss vs square root of specific deposit gave a straight line corresponding to Shektman formula.Analysis by Adin-Rebhun model showed that for contact flocculation-filtration humic dispersions attachment coefficient k1 was similar to, detachment k2 was many fold higher then and theoretical maximum mass capacity much lower then in case of mineral dispersions.Calculations showed that the solid content and the density of alumo-organic deposits in bed are much lower than of alumo-mineral deposits. The water-reducing agent better known as superplasticizer is a recent development. A number of base materials have been used for the development of such water-reducing agents which can act better than ordinary plasticizers in concrete. The sulphonated salts of melamine, napthalene, lignin, hydroxycarboxylic acids and hydroxylated polymers are some typical compounds. Recently cashew nutshell liquid obtained from a natural product waste as a thick black phenolic compound has been converted into a water-reducing agent. We report the results of experiments designed to improve the efficacy of the solar disinfection of drinking water, inactivation process. The effects of periodic agitation, covering the rear surface of the container with aluminium foil, container volume and turbidity on the solar inactivation kinetics of Escherichia coli (starting population = 10(6) CFU ml(-1)) were investigated. It was shown that agitation promoted the release of dissolved oxygen from water with subsequent decrease in the inactivation rates of E. coli. In contrast, covering the rear surface of the solar disinfection container with aluminium foil improved the inactivation efficiency of the system. The mean decay constant for bacterial populations in foil-backed bottles was found to be a factor of 1.85 (std. dev. = 0.43) higher than that of non-foil-backed bottles. Inactivation rates decrease as turbidity increases. However, total inactivation was achievable in 300 NTU samples within 8 h exposure to strong sunshine. Inactivation kinetics was not dependent on the volume of the water container for volumes in the range 500-1500 ml. 相似文献
