Doping Pt/ceria catalysts with the Group 1 alkali metals was found to lead to an important weakening of the C–H bond of formate
and methoxy species. This was demonstrated by a shift to lower wavenumbers of the formate and methoxy ν(CH) vibrational modes
by DRIFTS spectroscopy. Li and Na-doped Pt/ceria catalysts were tested relative to the undoped catalyst for low temperature
water–gas shift and methanol steam reforming using a fixed bed reactor and exhibited higher catalytic activity. Steaming of
formate and methoxy species pre-adsorbed on the catalyst surface during in-situ DRIFTS spectroscopy suggested that the species
were more reactive for dehydrogenation steps in the catalytic cycle for the Li and Na-doped catalysts relative to undoped
Pt/ceria. However, with increasing atomic number over the series of alkali-doped catalysts, the stability of a fraction of
the carbonate species was found to increase. This was observed during TPD-MS measurements of the adsorbed CO2 probe molecule by a systematic increase of a high temperature peak for a fraction of the CO2 desorbed. This result indicates that alkali-doping is an optimization problem—that is, while improving the dehydrogenation
rates of methoxy and formate species, the carbonate intermediate stability increases, making it difficult to liberate the
CO2. Infrared spectroscopy results of CO adsorbed on Pt and ceria suggest that the alkali dopant is located on, and electronically
modifies, both the Pt and ceria components. The results not only lend further support to the role that methoxy and formate
species play as intermediates in the catalytic mechanisms, but also provide a path forward for improving rates by means other

This article provides a contemporary spatial perspective of patterns and trends in migration to the Western Cape during the period 2001 to 2011 and contributes an important new perspective on one of the dominant migration streams in South Africa. It applies the concepts of mainstream and substream migration from the differential urbanisation model to analyse characteristics and patterns normally hidden by aggregated migration data. The findings confirm the continuation of strong primary migration streams between the Eastern Cape and municipalities in the Western Cape driven mainly by productionism. These migrants are mostly unmarried, young (25–29 years), mostly unemployed or not economically active, with low incomes. A significant proportion (31.3 %) end up living in informal dwellings in backyards or informal settlements largely concentrated in the provincial primary city, Cape Town. A smaller but prominent substream of migrants to the province consists of affluent, highly skilled, mostly married migrants from other metropolitan cities in South Africa, many from Gauteng. These migrants are driven by environmentalism, and favour Cape Town and adjacent municipalities as their destination—particularly those areas along the south coast of the province containing intermediate-size cities. Aero-elastic behavior of a flexible blade for wind turbine application: A 2D computational study 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper presents a computational study into the static aeroelastic response of a 2D wind turbine airfoil under varying wind conditions. An efficient and accurate code that couples the X-Foil software for computation of airfoil aerodynamics and the MATLAB PDE toolbox for computation of the airfoil deformation is developed for the aero-elastic computations. The code is validated qualitatively against computational results in literature. The impact of a flexibility of the airfoil is studied for a range of design parameters including the free stream velocity, pitch angle, airfoil thickness, and airfoil camber. Static aero-elastic effects have the potential to improve lift and the lift over drag ratio at off-design wind speed conditions. Flexibility delays stall to a large pitch angle, increasing the operating range of a flexible blade airfoil. With increased thickness the airfoil deformation decrease only linearly. 相似文献

Hydrotalcite-like anionic clays (HTs; or layered double hydroxides, LDHs) can be used as precursors to mixed oxides, but their catalytic potential reaches much further. This review demonstrates that HTs can be successfully applied in a broad spectrum of organic reactions, with advantages such as improved activity, selectivity, metal dispersion, less waste production, and an improved recuperation of immobilized catalysts. HTs can be used in the as-synthesized form or after different pretreatments. The HT as such is a solid base or, depending on the elemental composition of its octahedral layers, may have redox properties. Specific metals can be incorporated either as a cation in the octahedral layer or as an anion via exchange. The anion-exchange strategy is especially successful in the context of heterogenizing homogeneous catalysts. A particular advantage for base catalysis is that the number and strength of the basic sites can be tuned precisely to a specific reaction. HTs are excellent materials to design bifunctional redox-base catalysts or to control the acid-base properties around a heterogenized metal complex. Potential applications of HTs range from the production of large-scale basic chemicals to the synthesis of small-scale specialty chemicals. 相似文献

The resurgence of metal-on-metal articulating surfaces for hip arthroplasty has also heightened concerns about the degree and magnitude of metal particle generation and the accompanying increase in circulating metal ion concentrations. In this study, we measured the concentration of chromium in serum and urine and the concentration of cobalt in serum in twenty-five patients with modern metal-on-metal surface arthroplasty of the hip in a prospective manner. The results showed that the mean post-operative chromium in serum levels were 22-fold, 23-fold and 21-fold higher at 3, 6 and 12 months post-operative, respectively, than pre-operative levels. The mean post-operative cobalt in serum levels were 8-fold, 7-fold and 6-fold higher at 3, 6 and 12 months post-operative, respectively, than pre-operative levels. The mean post-operative chromium in urine levels were 9-fold, 10-fold and 14-fold higher at 3, 6 and 12 months post-operative, respectively, than pre-operative levels. The values seen in this study with the current generation of surface arthroplasties are: (a) lower than those seen in an earlier generation of surface arthroplasties; (b) in the same range as those observed in association with metal-on-metal conventional total hip replacements, which typically have smaller head sizes; (c) higher than values observed in patients with conventional metal-on-polyethylene articulating couples. 相似文献
