This study was designed to evaluate intrathecal (IT) sufentanil for labor analgesia with respect to sensory changes, side effects, and fetal heart rate (FHR) changes. In Phase I of the study, data regarding duration of analgesia and hemodynamic changes were obtained retrospectively from the labor and anesthetic records of 90 patients who had received IT sufentanil, 10 micrograms in 1 mL of saline, during active labor. In Phase II, an additional 18 parturients who received similar treatment were studied prospectively to document sensory, motor, and hemodynamic changes, as well as the incidence of side effects. In Phase I, analgesia occurred rapidly and lasted 124 +/- 68 min (SD); 19% of patients required no further analgesia before delivery. In Phase II, median time to onset of analgesia was 3 min (range 1-6 min) and mean duration of analgesia was 96 +/- 36 min. Decreased sensation to pinprick and cold occurred within 6 min extending from T4 to L4 (upper and lower median levels) in the majority of patients. All subjects requested additional analgesia within approximately 30 min of recession of sensory changes. Motor strength remained normal throughout. Hypotension (systolic blood pressure [BP] < or = 90 mm Hg or > 20% decrease in systolic BP) occurred in 14% and 11% of patients in Phase I and II, respectively. Perineal itching preceded analgesia in 95% of patients and all subjects experienced mild sedation. Highly oriented polymeric products have been produced over the past fifteen years by two very different processing routes; from conventional polymers processed to highly oriented extended chain structures, and from rod-like polymers which exhibit liquid crystalline behaviour. Gel spun polyethylene is an example of such a conventional polymer. There are three main types of liquid crystalline polymers (LCP) which have high orientation and modulus: lyotropic aramids, such as poly(-phenylene terephthalamide) (PPTA); lyotropic, aromatic heterocyclic polymers, or ordered polymers; and the family of thermotropic aromatic copolyesters. Extensive characterization of the thermotropic copolyesters has resulted in the delineation of a fibrillar, hierarchial structural model which accounts for the structures observed in a broad range of oriented fibres, extrudates and moulded articles. Three distinct fibrillar species are observed: microfibrils that are about 50 nm, fibrils about 500 nm, and macrofibrils about 5m, in size. Superimposed on the structural hierarchy is a defect hierarchy, defined by the regular meander of the molecular chain and a localization of defects within a microfibril at about a 50 nm periodicity. Orientational variations, layering and skin core structures, in thick specimens, are the result of local flow fields on the basic structural units during solidification. The fibrillar textures appear to be present prior to any preparation for microscopy. A wide range of specimen preparation methods, i.e. fractography, sonication, microtomy and etching, and microscopic techniques, i.e. optical, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, were applied to the characterization of the aromatic copolyesters and PPTA. Interestingly, the same basic hierarchy is observed for both the lyotropic and the thermotropic LCPs and the microfibrillar structures of all the highly oriented polymers, including polyethylene, appear quite similar. 相似文献

The workers of the leaf-cutting antAtta laevigata were found to mark a territory around their nest and along trunk trails. Elsewhere, we reported that the territorial mark had orientation and agonistic functions. The presence of this mark induced an alarm behavior in intruder workers and stimulated the residents' aggressiveness. Of the parts of the body tested, only the extracts from gaster or Dufour gland were able to induce the same agonistic behavior. The compoundsn-heptadecane, (Z)-9-nonadecene, 8,11-nonadecadiene, and (Z)-9-tricosene, secreted by Dufour gland were identified on foraging trails in the field as components of the territorial odor. 相似文献

The effects of Squashing, an algorithm introduced by J.A. Reeds and L.A. Shepp (see ibid., vol.MI-6, no.2, p.89-97, June 1987), are described. It is proven that Squashing induces a weight function upon the projections. Intuitive and numerical evidence is presented showing that this weight function is not desirable at limited angles. This review updates the imaging of free cytosolic calcium with the chemiluminescent aequorins. Basic principles of chemiluminescence are discussed and the biochemistry of aequorins is briefly described. The review provides practical tips on handling and microinjecting aequorins and describes available ultra low light imaging systems. It is argued that aequorin-based calcium imaging is the method of choice for exploratory studies, since it is extremely sensitive, can detect a broad range of calcium concentrations, and allows for continuous recording during long periods of time. Stromal fibroblasts in the primate endometrium undergo dramatic morphological and biochemical changes in response to pregnancy. This transformation is characterized by the expression of insulin-like growth factor binding protein-1 (IGFBP-1). Stromal cells from the baboon endometrium of nonpregnant animals were cultured and subsequently treated with cytochalasin D to disrupt actin filaments. In response to cytochalasin D treatment, cells contracted and became rounded as early as 10 min after the initiation of treatment. When cytochalasin D was removed, cells reverted back to their original fibroblastic shape within 1 h. After cells were treated with cytochalasin D for 5 h, addition of (Bu)2cAMP and/or hormones (estradiol, medroxyprogesterone acetate, and relaxin) resulted in the expression of IGFBP-1 messenger RNA and protein within 24 h. Cells with an intact cytoskeleton did not express detectable levels of IGFBP-1 in response to hormones and/or (Bu)2cAMP. Furthermore, the addition of cycloheximide inhibited expression of IGFBP-1 in cytochalasin D-treated cells. Stromal cells were also isolated from early pregnant and simulated pregnant animals. Within 48 h, cells from both the pregnant and simulated pregnant animals produced IGFBP-1 in response to hormones and/or (Bu)2cAMP. In these studies, IGFBP-1 expression was also inhibited by cycloheximide. These studies suggest that induction of IGFBP-1 requires an intermediary protein and that alterations in the cytoskeleton may be involved. 相似文献

This paper presents a complete single-chip universal digital satellite receiver supporting all current DBS system standards. The mixed-signal device accepts a modulated data stream at up to 90 Mbps and delivers a demodulated, error-corrected output data stream. The IC features an analog front end with 480-MHz intermediate frequency downconversion and dual 8-bit analog-to-digital converters, an all-digital BPSK/QPSK/OQPSK variable-rate receiver supporting 1-45 MBaud operation with phase/frequency recovery, variable-rate digital filters, square-root Nyquist matched filters, acquisition and tracking loops, and a DVB/DSS/DigiCipher I/II-compliant concatenated Viterbi/Reed-Solomon forward error correction decoder with on-chip deinterleaver RAM. Muscle mass is a determining factor in skeletal muscle function and is affected by inactivity, immobilization, disease, and
aging. The aim of this study was to develop an objective and timeefficient method to quantify the volume and cross-sectional
area of human calf muscles using three-dimensional magnetic resonance images. We have estimated the errors incurred in muscle
volume measurements arising from artifacts known to occur in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The largest source of error
was due to partial volume effects, which resulted in overestimation of phantom volumes ranging from 145 to 900 cc by 6% to
13%. The magnitude of this effect has been shown to increase with decreasing object size and decreasing spatial resolution.
We have presented a straightforward correction for this effect, which has reduced the volume measurement error to less than
4% for all cases. Through the use of computer simulations, the correction algorithm has been shown to be independent of object
shape and orientation. To reduce user subjectivity, a semiautomated computer program has been developed to segment MRI data
for particular muscle groups. Images from seven human subjects were analyzed by the program, yielding muscle volumes of 154.2±23.2,
281.2±35.8, and 432.2±83.7 for the lateral gastrocnemius, medial gastrocnemius, and soleus, respectively. 相似文献
