The effects of ration on postprandial serum glucose and insulin were detemined in 12 lactating Holstein cows. Six were fed a high grain ration of 15% hay and 85% concentrate (dry basis) and the other six a control ration of 55% corn silage, 10% hay and 35% concentrate. High grain feeding increased glucose and insulin at all hours postfeeding as compared to control cows. In the cows fed high grain, glucose increased from 63.3 to 72.2 mg/100 ml and insulin from 19.2 to 25.6 mu units/ml serum just before feeding to 3 h postfeeding. Values for 2, 3, and 4 h samples were greater than for other sampling time. Serum glucose was 55.5 mg/100 ml at 1 h in control cows which was above other sample. Serum insulin followed a pattern similar to glucose in controls but was not signigicantly different with time. The blood changes due to high grain feeding are probably related to low milk fat production. 相似文献

A novel PtRu catalyst consisting of a Ru-rich core and a Pt-rich shell was synthesized using a two-step microwave irradiation technique. The synthesized PtRu/C catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), extended X-ray absorption finestructure (EXAFS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) as well as energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDXS). The produced PtRu/C catalysts showed identical crystalline structure and diffraction peaks to Pt itself, but with negligible higher 2 shift degrees, indicating the formation of a specific composite structure rather than alloy formation. This novel structure of PtRu/C catalyst was also further verified via X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The particle size of PtRu catalysts identified by TEM was less than 5 nm. In order to investigate the CO tolerance in the hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR), H2 streams with six different concentrations of CO (0, 10, 50, 100, 300, and 500 ppm) were used. The electrocatalytic activity thus obtained was not only better than that of Pt/C catalyst in HOR, but also showed a better CO tolerance in various CO concentrations. 相似文献

Eighty-four Holstein calves were assigned at 2 d of age to one of three treatments: 1) control with no additives; 2) 10 g of a mixed microbial concentrate containing Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus lactis, and Bacillus subtilis; or 3) 10 g of a B. subtilis concentrate. The microbial concentrates were mixed with milk replacer during the a.m. feeding. The milk replacer was offered twice daily at 5% BW per feeding; the reconstituted replacer contained 12.5% DM. Volume of replacer fed was based on initial weight of calf and held constant until weaning. Water and starter ration were offered for ad libitum intake throughout the trial. Calves were weaned abruptly at 30 d of age and received only water and starter from d 31 to 44. General health and performance of all calves were good. Although differences in weight gain and feed efficiency were not significant, the B. subtilis concentrate tended to have a positive effect on feed efficiency during wk 1 to 4 and on immediate postweaning gain. A higher fecal bacilli count at 6 wk in calves fed the microbial concentrates may be related to their tendency for improved gain during d 31 to 44, the immediate postweaning period. 相似文献

We describe in this paper the use of ormosil (organically modified silica) sols as additives to the run buffer for selectivity manipulations between solutes in capillary electrophoresis. CE systems that contain sol additives in the run buffer can be thought of as pseudocapillary electrochromatography. Three sols based on different types of silanes were studied. Methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMOS)-based sol was found to improve selectivities between various aromatic acids. Aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APS) sol interacts differently with structural isomers of aromatic acids than does MTMOS. At low pH with APS sol in the run buffer, neutral solutes can be separated, as well. The separation of the neutral solutes seems to be facilitated by the formation of hydrogen bonds between the solutes and the APS sol. APS and N-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]-ethylenediamine (EDAS) affect the separation of the same compounds differently, thus indicating that even small changes of the functional groups of the sol have pronounced effect on the interactions between the sols and the solutes. 相似文献

In addition to causing embarassment and unease, flatulence is linked to a variety of symptoms, some of which may be distressing. This review describes the origins of intestinal gas, its composition and methods which have been developed for its analysis. Emphasis is placed upon the effects of legumes in the diet in producing excessive intestinal gas and, particularly, on the role of raffinose-type oligosaccharides, containing α-galactosidic groupings. Suggestions for overcoming the problem are presented, including drug treatment, enzyme treatment, food processing and plant breeding. It is emphasised that removal of all raffinose-oligosaccharides from beans does not remove the problem of flatulence in animals and man; the compounds responsible — though assumed to be polysaccharides (or polysaccharide-derived oligomers formed by processing or cooking) — have yet to be characterised. 相似文献

Poly(3,4-dioctylthienylenevinylene) (PDOTV) was synthesised by ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) with controlled molecular weight. PDOTV has been used to fabricate organic photovoltaic devices in combination with phenyl C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) for the first time. The devices show power conversion efficiency up to 0.18%. Optimal device performance was found at a film thickness of 100 nm and a ratio of PCBM to PTV of 2:1. External quantum efficiency (EQE) measurements, transient absorption spectroscopy and morphology studies were carried out to establish factors governing photovoltaic performance. These results suggest that the efficiency values for the devices were limited by the hole mobility and unexpected phase separation within the blend. Nevertheless, the results show that ROMP is a viable, alternative, synthetic strategy for preparing PTV donors for use in bulk heterojunction OPVs. 相似文献

The thermodynamic effects of molar steam to carbon ratio (S:C), of pressure, and of having CaO present on the H2 yield and enthalpy balance of urea steam reforming were investigated. At a S:C of 3 the presence of CaO increased the H2 yield from 2.6 mol H2/mol urea feed at 940 K to 2.9 at 890 K, and decreased the enthalpy of bringing the system to equilibrium. A minimum enthalpy of 180.4 kJ was required to produce 1 mol of H2 at 880 K. This decreased to 94.0 kJ at 660 K with CaO-based CO2 sorption and, when including a regeneration step of the CaCO3 at 1170 K, to 173 kJ at 720 K. The presence of CaO allowed widening the range of viable operation at lower temperature and significantly inhibited carbon formation. The feasibility of producing H2 from renewable urea in a low carbon future is discussed. 相似文献

Selective targeting of DNA by means of fluorescent labeling has become a mainstay in the life sciences. While genetic engineering serves as a powerful technique and allows the visualization of nucleic acid by using DNA-targeting fluorescent fusion proteins in a cell-type- and subcellular-specific manner, it relies on the introduction of foreign genes. On the other hand, DNA-binding small fluorescent molecules can be used without genetic engineering, but they are not spatially restricted. Herein, we report a photocaged version of the DNA dye Hoechst33342 (pcHoechst), which can be uncaged by using UV to blue light for the selective staining of chromosomal DNA in subnuclear regions of live cells. Expanding its application to a vertebrate model organism, we demonstrate uncaging in epithelial cells and short-term cell tracking in vivo in zebrafish. We envision pcHoechst as a valuable tool for targeting and interrogating DNA with precise spatiotemporal resolution in living cells and wild-type organisms. 相似文献

Alternative ways for increased appetite control are today widely sought for due to the growing global health issues connected to obesity. In in vivo studies, oat has been proven an attractive candidate for inducing satiety. Oat is rich in polar lipids, of which the galactolipids are especially interesting, and a hypothesis is that these lipids play an important role for the ileal brake mechanism. In this study, the aim is to investigate the role of polar oat lipids on pancreatic lipolysis rate, using a pH-stat based in vitro digestion model of the duodenum. Lipolysis of oat oil, a mix of oat oil/rapeseed oil (RSO), as well as a liquid oat base (OB) simulating an oat drink with different polar lipid content are investigated, and compared with RSO as control. Increasing the polar lipid content of the product digested leads to a significantly decreased lipolysis rate, and this effect is even observed when mixing RSO with a low amount of oat oil (10%). The results support the hypothesis that polar lipids can delay lipolysis also in a complex, natural system like the liquid OB, and even a minor amount of oat lipids can have large effect on lipolysis rates. Practical applications: The number of studies connecting galactolipids with a decreasing effect on duodenal lipolysis is growing; however, the mechanism behind this phenomenon is still not clarified. Here, the same effect is seen in a complex, natural food system. These findings open up for interesting future food products, where inclusion of oat oil, even at low concentrations, can have a prolonging effect on satiety. Oat for human consumption is an increasing market, thanks to the positive health benefits oat has been connected to, in combination with the current trend toward climate-friendly plant-based options for meat and dairy products. It is believed that oat oil can be attractive as an ingredient in various food products, for example, protein bars and spreads. More studies are needed to confirm the results in vivo. Following the success of Auranofin as an anti-arthritic drug, search for novel gold drugs has afforded a large number of [L−Au(PPh3)] complexes that exhibit notable salutary effects. Unlike Au(III)-containing species, these gold complexes with {Au(PPh3)}+ moiety are stable in biological media and readily exchange L with S- and Se-containing enzymes or proteins. Such exchange leads to rapid reduction of microbial loads or induction of apoptotic cell death at malignant sites. In many cases the lipophilic {Au(PPh3)}+ moiety delivers a desirable toxic L to the specific cellular target in addition to exhibiting its own beneficial activity. Further research and utilization of this synthon in drug design could lead to novel chemotherapeutics for treatment of drug-resistant pathogens and cancers. 相似文献
