The suppressive effect of the halogenated inhalation anesthesia on cortical somatosensory evoked potentials (cSSEPs) has been well documented. Less studied and appreciated is the effect of nitrous oxide often with a narcotic as an alternative to a potent agent for spinal cord monitoring. This study sought to define more clearly the influence of nitrous oxide on cSSEPs elicited to posterior tibial nerve stimulation. A secondary purpose was to demonstrate the advantage of a total intravenous propofol anesthesia in facilitating uncompromised large-amplitude cSSEPs. Fifty adult patients undergoing anterior cervical discectomy served as the study sample. Brainstem and cortical posterior tibial nerve SSEPs were recorded under two independent anesthesia conditions, namely, nitrous oxide and propofol. Results demonstrated a significant amplitude reduction and latency prolongation with the nitrous oxide versus propofol protocol. cSSEP amplitude with propofol was, on the average, approximately two times larger than that with nitrous oxide. Based on these findings, the use of nitrous-oxide anesthesia is not recommended when limited to monitoring cSSEPs that are already amplitude compromised secondary to existing spinal cord disease. 相似文献

We recently reported that epidermal immunization using the PowderJet particle delivery device with plasmid vector pcDNA1/EDIM6 encoding rotavirus VP6 of murine strain EDIM induced high levels of serum rotavirus IgG but failed to protect mice against EDIM infection (Choi, A. H., Knowlton, D. R., McNeal, M. M., and Ward, R. L. (1997) Virology 232, 129-138.). This was extended to determine whether pcDNA1/EDIM4 or pcDNA1/EDIM7, which encode either rotavirus VP4 or VP7, the rotavirus neutralization proteins, could also induce rotavirus-specific antibody responses and if these responses resulted in protection. Titers of rotavirus serum IgG increased with the first dose in mice immunized with pcDNA1/EDIM7, but little or no serum rotavirus IgG was detected in mice immunized with pcDNA1/EDIM4. In vitro assays with these plasmids in rabbit reticulocyte lysates showed that VP4 was expressed but the amount was considerably lower than VP6 or VP7. To improve expression of VP4 and induction of rotavirus-specific humoral responses, the coding region of VP4 was cloned into the high-expression plasmid WRG7054 as a fusion protein containing the 22-amino-acid secretory signal peptide of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) at its N terminus. In vitro expression of tPA::VP4 was significantly higher than unmodified VP4, and mice inoculated with WRG7054/EDIM4 generated high titers of rotavirus IgG. The coding sequence of VP7 without the first 162 nucleotides was also cloned into WRG7054, but no difference was observed between titers of serum rotavirus IgG in mice immunized with this plasmid (WRG7054/EDIM7Delta1-162) and pcDNA1/EDIM7. The rotavirus-specific IgG titers in all immune sera were predominantly IgG1 indicating induction of Th 2-type responses. None of the mice immunized with any of the VP4 or VP7 plasmids developed serum or fecal rotavirus IgA or neutralizing antibody to EDIM. When immunized mice were challenged with EDIM virus, there was no significant reduction in viral shedding relative to unimmunized controls. Therefore epidermal immunization with VP4 or VP7 alone elicited rotavirus IgG responses but did not protect against homologous rotavirus challenge. 相似文献

A new model has been developed to investigate matrix cracking in laminated fibrous composite structures. The model can predict matrix cracking and its effect on stiffness reduction. It can also compute the load transfer from the cracked matrix to surrounding fibers. The model is based on the micromechanical concept of the fiber and matrix as well as the matrix material degradation concept as matrix cracking progressed. The micromechanical concept uses a rectangular cell geometry representing a fiber and its surrounding matrix while the material degradation concept uses an empirical expression of a Weibull type function. Two material constants are required for matrix cracking. The constants were obtained from an experiment on matrix cracking. With those constants, the present model predicts the matrix cracking in other cases. The predicted solutions were comparable to the experimental data. 相似文献

The AA7075 alloys reinforced with SiC and without SiC particles were fabricated by a pressureless infiltration method, and
then, their tensile properties and microstructures were analyzed. The spontaneous infiltration of molten metal at 800 °C for
1 hour under a nitrogen atmosphere made it possible to fabricate 7075 Al matrix composite reinforced with SiC, as well as
a control 7075 Al without SiC. A significant strengthening even in the control alloy occurred due to the formation of in-situ AlN particle even without an addition of SiC particles. Composite reinforced with SiC particles exhibited higher strength
values than the control alloy in all aging conditions (underaged (UA), peak-aged (PA), and overaged (OA)), as well as a solution
treated condition. Spontaneous infiltration was further prompted owing to the combined effect of both Mg and Zn. This may
lead to an enhancement of wetting between the molten alloy and the reinforcement. Consequently, strength improvement in a
composite may be attributed to good bond strength via enhancement of wetting. The grain size of the control alloy is greatly decreased to about 2.5 μm compared to 10 μm for the
commercial alloy. In addition, the grain size in the composite is further decreased to about 2 μm. These grain refinements

The photocatalytic degradation of three commercial textile dyes with different structure has been investigated using TiO(2) (Degussa P25) photocatalyst in aqueous solution under solar irradiation. Experiments were conducted to optimise various parameters viz. amount of catalyst, concentration of dye, pH and solar light intensity. Degradation of all the dyes were examined by using chemical oxygen demand (COD) method. The degradation efficiency of the three dyes is as follows: Reactive Yellow 17(RY17) > Reactive Red 2(RR2) > Reactive Blue 4 (RB4), respectively. The experimental results indicate that TiO(2) (Degussa P25) is the best catalyst in comparison with other commercial photocatalysts such as, TiO(2) (Merck), ZnO, ZrO(2), WO(3) and CdS. Though the UV irradiation can efficiently degrade the dyes, naturally abundant solar irradiation is also very effective in the mineralisation of dyes. The comparison between thin-film coating and aqueous slurry method reveals that slurry method is more efficient than coating but the problems of leaching and the requirement of separation can be avoided by using coating technique. These observations indicate that all the three dyes could be degraded completely at different time intervals. Hence, it may be a viable technique for the safe disposal of textile wastewater into the water streams. 相似文献

We describe in this report a sensitive and direct method for the analysis of tamoxifen (TAM) in microsamples of plasma. The drug and internal standard (quinine bisulfate, I.S.) were separated on a 10-microm particle, 10 cm X 8 mm CN cartridge in conjunction with a radial compression system. The mobile phase was a mixture of 0.1 M sodium acetate in 0.001 M tetrabutylammonium phosphate solution (pH 6) and methanol (30:70, v/v) at a flow-rate of 4 ml/min. After addition of I.S. and o-phosphoric acid in acetonitrile (0.6 M) to the plasma (30 microl), the mixture was placed in an ultraviolet shortwave transluminator for 2 min prior to injection into the chromatograph. The compounds were detected in the effluent fluorometrically at excitation and emission wavelengths of 258 and 378 nm, respectively. Under these conditions, no interference in the assay from any endogenous substance or other concurrently used drugs was observed and the retention times of I.S. and TAM were 4.4 and 10.15 min, respectively. The concentration of TAM in plasma was linearly (r>0.9983) related to the peak height ratio (TAM/I.S.) in the range 0.01-2.0 microg ml(-1) and C.V. at 0.075, 0.4 and 1.2 microg ml(-1) was < or = 4.96%. We are currently using this assay for monitoring TAM in plasma and investigating its pharmacokinetics in cancer patients receiving cytotoxic drugs in addition to TAM as a multi-drug resistance modifier. 相似文献

Double-crystal x-ray rocking curve (DCRC) and secondary-ion mass-spectroscopy (SIMS) measurements have been performed to investigate the effect of rapid thermal annealing on the interdiffusion behavior of Hg in HgTe/CdTe superlattices grown on Cd0.96Zn0.04Te (211)B substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. The sharp satellite peaks of the DCRC measurements on a 100-period HgTe/CdTe (100Å/100Å) superlattice show a periodic arrangement of the superlattice with high-quality interfaces. The negative direction of the entropy change obtained from the diffusion coefficients as a function of the reciprocal of the temperature after RTA indicates that the Hg diffusion for the annealed HgTe/CdTe superlattice is caused by an interstitial mechanism. The Cd and the Hg concentration profiles near the annealed HgTe/CdTe superlattice interfaces, as measured by SIMS, show a nonlinear behavior for Hg, originating from the interstitial diffusion mechanism of the Hg composition. These results indicate that a nonlinear interdiffusion behavior is dominant for HgTe/CdTe superlattices annealed at 190°C and that the rectangular shape of HgTe/CdTe superlattices may change to a parabolic shape because of the intermixing of Hg and Cd due to the thermal treatment. 相似文献

The authors report significantly improved performances of a symmetric self-electrooptic-effect device (S-SEED), with high on-off contrast ratio (>30:l) and large optical bistability loop widths (ΔP=44%) at an applied bias of Va=0 V, i.e., with no power supply. The S-SEED is made of extremely shallow quantum wells (ESQWs) in an asymmetric Fabry-Perot (AFP) cavity structure. At Va =5 V ΔP increased by up to 95%, preserving the high contrast ratio. The reflectivity changes at Va=0 and 5 V were about 15% and 30%, respectively. These are believed to be the largest values ever reported for such structures 相似文献
