Foaming behavior of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) nanocomposites and thermally‐insulating, electrical, and mechanical properties of the nanocomposite foams are investigated. PMMA/MWCNT nanocomposites containing various amounts of MWCNTs are first prepared by combining solution and melt blending methods, and then foamed using CO2. The foaming temperature and MWCNT content are varied for regulating the structure of PMMA/MWCNT nanocomposite foams. The electrical conductivity measurement results show that MWCNTs have little effect on the electrical conductivity of foams with large expansion ratio. Thermal conductivities of both solid and foamed PMMA/MWCNT nanocomposites are measured to evaluate their thermally insulating properties. The gas conduction, solid conduction, and thermal radiation of the foams are calculated for clarifying the effects of cellular structure and MWCNT content on thermal insulation properties. The result demonstrates that MWCNTs endowed foams with enhanced thermal insulation performance by blocking thermal radiation. Moreover, the compressive testing shows that MWCNTs improve the compressive strength and rigidity of foams. This research is essential for optimizing environmentally friendly thermal insulation nanocomposite foams with enhanced thermal‐insulation and compressive mechanical properties. 相似文献

Beneficial effects of dietary phytic acid (myo-inositol hexaphosphate; IP6) have often been explained by its strong iron ion-chelating ability, which possibly suppresses iron ion-induced oxidative
damage in the gastrointestinal tract. Because phytic acid is hydrolyzed during digestion, this work aimed to know whether
its hydrolysis products (IP2′ IP3′, IP4′ and IP5) could still prevent iron ion-induced lipid peroxidation. Studies using liposomal membranes demonstrated that hydrolysis
products containing three or more phosphate groups are able to inhibit iron ion-induced lipid peroxidation although their
effectiveness decreased with dephosphorylation. Similarly, they also prevented iron ion-induced decomposition of phosphatidylcholine
hydroperoxide. These results demonstrate that intermediate products of phytic acid hydrolysis still possess iron ion-chelating
ability, and thus they can probably prevent iron ion-induced lipid peroxidation in biological systems. 相似文献

Proton conductive inorganic–organic hybrid membranes were synthesized from styrene derivatives of alkoxysilane and ethyl 2-[3-(dihydroxyphosphonyl)-2-oxopropyl] acrylate (EPA) through copolymerization followed by sol–gel reaction. Self-standing, homogeneous and transparent hybrid membranes with chemically bound phosphonic acid groups were synthesized. FT-IR analysis exhibited the hybrid membranes included phosphonic acid groups. 13C and 29Si NMR studies indicated that alkoxysilyl functionalized styrene derivatives were not only copolymerized with EPA but also condensed yielding Si–O–Si linkages by sol–gel reaction. TG–DTA analysis revealed that these membranes were thermally stable up to 200 °C in dry O2. The proton conductivities of the hybrid membranes increased with phosphonic acid content and temperature. The P/Si ratio of the membrane was dependent on the number of alkoxy group in the starting alkoxysilane. The hybrid membrane from (dimethylmethoxysilylmethyl)styrene (DMMSMS(M))/EPA = 1/6 revealed proton conductivities of 6.3 × 10−3 and 2.4 × 10−4 S cm−1 at 68.0% relative humidity and 18.8% relative humidity, respectively, at 140 °C. 相似文献

Females of the solitary endoparasitoid Cotesia vestalis respond to a blend of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released from plants infested with larvae of their host, the diamondback
moth (Plutella xylostella), which is an important pest insect of cruciferous plants. We investigated the flight response of female parasitoids to the
cruciferous plant Brassica rapa, using two-choice tests under laboratory conditions. The parasitoids were more attracted to plants that had been infested
for at least 6 hr by the host larvae compared to intact plants, but they did not distinguish between plants infested for only
3 hr and intact plants. Although parasitoids preferred plants 1 and 2 days after herbivory (formerly infested plants) over
intact plants they also preferred plants that had been infested for 24 hr over formerly infested plants. This suggests that
parasitoids can distinguish between the VOC profiles of currently and formerly infested plants. We screened for differences
in VOC emissions among the treatments and found that levels of benzyl cyanide and dimethyl trisulfide significantly decreased
after removal of the host larvae, whereas terpenoids and their related compounds continued to be released at high levels.
Benzyl cyanide and dimethyl trisulfide attracted parasitoids in a dose-dependent manner, whereas the other compounds were
not attractive. These results suggest that nitrile and sulfide compounds temporarily released from plants under attack by
host larvae are potentially more effective attractants for this parasitoid than other VOCs that are continuously released

Responses of the tachinid fly Exorista japonica Townsend to odors from corn plants infested with the fly’s host, the larvae of the noctuid moth Mythimna separata (Walker), were examined in a wind tunnel. Naïve female flies showed a higher rate of landing on M. separata-infested corn plants from which the host larvae had been removed than on artificially damaged or intact corn plants. When paper impregnated with a solution of headspace volatiles collected from host-infested plants was attached to intact plants, females landed on the plants at a high rate. Females also responded to intact plants to which had been attached with paper impregnated with a synthetic blend of nine chemicals identified previously in host-infested plants. There was an optimum concentration of the synthetic blend for the females’ landing. Of the nine chemicals identified previously, four [(E)-4,8-dimethyl-1,3,7-nonatriene, indole, 3-hydroxy-2-butanone, and 2-methyl-1-propanol] released only by host-infested plants were classified as a host-induced blend. The other five [(Z)-3-hexen-1-yl acetate, (E)-2-hexenal, hexanal, (Z)-3-hexen-1-ol, and linalool] were classified as a non-specific blend released not only by infested plants but also by artificially damaged or intact plants. In the wind tunnel, E. japonica females did not respond to intact plants to which paper containing a solution of non-specific blend or host-induced blend was attached. However, they showed a high level of response to a mixture of the non-specific and host-induced blends. These results indicate that naïve E. japonica use a combination of non-specific and host-induced blends as an olfactory cue for locating host-infested plants. 相似文献

Fluorescent probes that emit in the near-infrared (NIR, 700–1,300 nm) region are suitable as optical contrast agents for in vivo fluorescence imaging because of low scattering and absorption of the NIR light in tissues. Recently, NIR quantum dots (QDs) have become a new class of fluorescent materials that can be used for in vivo imaging. Compared with traditional organic fluorescent dyes, QDs have several unique advantages such as size- and composition-tunable emission, high brightness, narrow emission bands, large Stokes shifts, and high resistance to photobleaching. In this paper, we report a facile method for the preparation of highly fluorescent, water-soluble glutathione (GSH)-coated NIR QDs for in vivo imaging. GSH-coated NIR QDs (GSH-QDs) were prepared by surface modification of hydrophobic CdSeTe/CdS (core/shell) QDs. The hydrophobic surface of the CdSeTe/CdS QDs was exchanged with GSH in tetrahydrofuran-water. The resulting GSH-QDs were monodisperse particles and stable in PBS (phosphate buffered saline, pH = 7.4). The GSH-QDs (800 nm emission) were highly fluorescent in aqueous solutions (quantum yield = 22% in PBS buffer), and their hydrodynamic diameter was less than 10 nm, which is comparable to the size of proteins. The cellular uptake and viability for the GSH-QDs were examined using HeLa and HEK 293 cells. When the cells were incubated with aqueous solutions of the GSH-QDs (10 nM), the QDs were taken into the cells and distributed in the perinuclear region of both cells. After 12 hrs incubation of 4 nM of GSH-QDs, the viabilities of HeLa and HEK 293 cells were ca. 80 and 50%, respectively. As a biomedical utility of the GSH-QDs, in vivo NIR-fluorescence imaging of a lymph node in a mouse is presented. 相似文献

In recent years, in order to reduce the costs of transportation and construction of pipelines, which are often constructed using multiple-electrode submerged arc welding (SAW), higher joint performance is required. Therefore, there has arisen the need to understand theoretically and control appropriately metallurgical and mechanical characteristics in heat-affected zone (HAZ), which has a significant influence on the strength and toughness of welded joints. Commonly, metallurgical phenomena in HAZ are evaluated based on the highest temperature and the cooling rate. Therefore, in order to control metallurgical and mechanical characteristics in HAZ by means of the welding conditions, evaluating the temperature distribution and the temperature history near the melted zone is essential. However, a detailed investigation of the temperature distribution for multiple-electrode SAW has not yet been carried out enough. In this study, in order to investigate the temperature distribution and histories during multiple-electrode SAW, the experimental results are compared with the theoretical results. In the theoretical analysis, the temperature rise equation in multiple heat sources welding is developed using the method of summation. Furthermore, on temperature distribution during welding, the effects of multiple heat sources, such as the number of heat sources and the distance between each electrodes, are considered quantitatively through the thermal conduction theoretical analysis. As the result, the distance between lead heat source and final heat source primally influences the area with the difference between a single heat source welding and multiple heat sources welding. Based on the results, it is expected to control temperature distribution near melted zone by more appropriate heat input characteristics, which is depended on heat source arrangement. 相似文献

Young, gregariously living larvae of the willow leaf beetles Plagiodera versicolora are known to exhibit characteristic aggregation-dispersion-reaggregation behavior and local fidelity to a host tree. In this
study, we investigated whether plant volatiles induced by feeding P. versicolora larvae were involved in the reaggregation behavior. Under laboratory conditions, we conducted dual-choice bioassays and found
that the first and second instars discriminated between volatiles from leaves infested by larvae and volatiles from uninfested
leaves. The discriminative behavior was dependent on both the time leaves were infested and the age of discriminating larvae.
First and second instars preferred odor from 1-d-infested leaves to odor from uninfested leaves, whereas third instars (solitary
stage) did not discriminate between these volatile blends. Odor from 2-d-infested leaves was preferred to odor from 1-d-infested
leaves by first instars, whereas odor from leaves infested for 3 d was not attractive to these very young larvae. Neither
was odor of leaves infested for 1 d and then left uninfested for 1 or 2 d attractive to young larvae. The data suggest that
the first and second instars use volatiles from a leaf newly infested by conspecific larvae as one of the reaggregation cues.
We detected several herbivore-induced compounds in the headspace of the attractive leaves. Among those, a mixture of synthetic
(E)-β-ocimene, (Z)-β-ocimene, allo-ocimene, and linalool was found to attract the larvae. 相似文献
