The Willems badge, a short-term diffusion sampler, was used to measure nitrogen dioxide concentrations inside and outside the homes of participants in the European study "PEACE' (Pollution Effects on Asthmatic Children in Europe). The main aim of the study was to determine levels of nitrogen dioxide concentrations both outside and inside children's homes, and to estimate the indoor/outdoor ratios for nitrogen dioxide in an urban area, in comparison with a less urbanized control area. We conducted measurements in 23 homes in Ume?, a city of about 100,000 inhabitants in the northern part of Sweden, in addition to 20 homes in a less urbanized control area situated about 20 km from Ume?. Measurements were made on two different occasions in each home during the period January-March, 1994. The houses were not equipped with any gas appliances. The mean outdoor 24-h concentration in Ume? was 28 micrograms m-3 and the mean indoor concentration was 11 micrograms m-3. The mean indoor: outdoor ratio was 0.44 (s = 0.23). The highest outdoor value, measured in the city centre of Ume?, was 54 micrograms m-3. In the control area the mean ambient 24-h concentration was 12 micrograms m-3, approximately half as high as in the urban area, and the mean indoor concentration was 6 micrograms m-3. The mean indoor: outdoor ratio was 0.67 (s = 0.55). The correlation coefficient between indoor and outdoor concentrations was higher in the control area, r = 0.79 (p < 0.001), in comparison with the urban area, r = 0.43 (p < 0.01). It is concluded that the outdoor as well as the indoor concentrations of nitrogen dioxide were approximately twice as high in Ume? as in the control area. This could be explained by heavier traffic density in Ume?. The mean 24-h concentration outside homes in Ume? was, however, below the 24-h national standard level of 75 micrograms m-3. The higher correlation between indoor and outdoor concentrations, combined with higher indoor: outdoor ratio, in the control area is interpreted as a sign of a lower level of penetration of outdoor air into the houses in the urban area. This was not explained by differences in types of buildings between the two areas, but possibly by differences in air-exchange rates and in habits of ventilating rooms with open windows.  相似文献

We review, unify and extend work pertaining to evaluating mode mixity of interfacial fracture utilizing the virtual crack closure technique (VCCT). From the VCCT, components of the strain energy release rate (SERR) are obtained using the forces and displacements near the crack tip corresponding to the opening and sliding contributions. Unfortunately, these components depend on the crack extension size, Δ, used in the VCCT. It follows that a mode mixity based upon these components also will depend on the crack extension size. However, the components of the strain energy release rate can be used for determining the complex stress intensity factors (SIFs) and the associated mode mixity. In this study, we show that several—seemingly different—suggested methods presented in the literature used to obtain mode mixity based on the stress intensity factors are indeed identical. We also present an alternative, simpler quadratic equation to this end. Moreover, a Δ-independent strain energy release based mode mixity can be defined by introducing a “normalizing length parameter.” We show that when the reference length (used for the SIF-based mode mixity) and the normalizing length (used for Δ-independent SERR-based mode mixity) are equal, the two mode mixities are only shifted by a phase angle, depending on the bimaterial parameter ε.  相似文献

An efficient, accurate and practical process for prioritising requirements is of great importance in commercial software developments. This article improves an existing cost-value approach in which stakeholders compare all unique pairs of candidate requirements according to their value and their cost of implementation. Techniques for reducing the required number of comparisons are suggested, thus making the process more efficient. An initial approach for managing requirements interdependencies is proposed. A support tool for the improved process has been developed to make the process more practical in commercial developments. The improved process and its support tool have been applied and evaluated in an industrial project at Ericsson Radio Systems AB. The results indicate a pressing need for mature processes for prioritising requirements, and the work presented here is an important step in that direction.  相似文献

An experimental and theoretical investigation was made to find out the reasons for the drop in shell-and-tube condenser performance when replacing R22 with a zeotropic mixture R407C. Measurements show that at lower condenser loads the reduction in performance can be as large as 70% compared to the full condenser load. Calculation results are compared with experimental results for two different condensers, one with micro-finned tubes and one with 3-D finned tubes. Calculations show that the degree of mixing of the newly formed condensate on a tube and the drained condensate is a factor influential enough to explain the performance drop. 3-D finned tubes seem to have better mixing in the condensate than integral finned tubes.  相似文献

The potential of buccal mucosa as a site for systemic absorption has attracted increased attention in recent years creating a need for new predictive in-vivo models. The aim of this study was to evaluate anaesthetised and conscious Göttingen mini-pigs as a model for buccal drug absorption by testing pH-dependent absorption of metoprolol from a solid dosage form. Buccal tablets buffered to pH 6.2 and pH 8.9, oral liquid and intravenous injection were tested in four conscious and anaesthetised Göttingen mini-pigs in a non-randomised cross-over study. Blood samples were collected and processed before analysis by ultra-performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry detection. An ex-vivo flow retention model was applied to study release and retention of the bioadhesive buccal tablets. The Tmax obtained from the two buccal conscious groups (55?±?5 and 35?±?5?min) were significantly different to the buccal anaesthetised groups (120?±?0 and 165?±?15?min) for buccal tablet pH 6.2 and pH 8.9, respectively. Also, the absolute bioavailability from the anaesthetised buccal tablet pH 8.9 (20.7?±?4.0%) had a significant increase compared to all other buccal tablet groups. In conclusion, this study showed a pH-dependent absolute bioavailability of metoprolol when administrated as bioadhesive buccal tablets to anaesthetised mini-pigs. The anaesthesia was found to delay the time to reach maximal plasma concentration of metoprolol as compared to the conscious pig model when administrated as buccal tablets.  相似文献

Abstract

The objective of this work will be to look at basic micro-level simulations of liquid state and movement. Defining liquid movement at fiber-coating boundaries is essential when modeling surface wetting of paper fibers. Drying studies have shown that chemical additives in base paper or coating color may reduce or increase quality, productivity, and energy efficiency considerably. The latest question is, Which are the factors that are significantly influencing liquid movement at fiber-coating boundaries? A phenomenon of less liquid drainage at lower paper moisture content is studied in this work together with the fiber hornification process. Fiber hornification is a complex change in the physicochemical properties of the fiber surface and the state of boundary molecules. Another important objective is to show how hornification may be accounted for in basic calculations. This while, printing properties of paper (mottling, etc.), may then be connected to the formation of the base paper and its drying history, explaining in more detail the importance of microlevel physicochemical property changes at fiber surfaces.  相似文献

The Method for Method Configuration (MMC) has been proposed as a method engineering approach to tailoring information systems development methods. This meta-method has been used on a variety of methods, but none of these studies have focused on the ability to manage method tailoring with the intention to promote specific values and goals, such as agile ones. This paper explores how MMC has been used during three software development projects to manage method tailoring with the intention to promote agile goals and values. Through content examples of method configurations we have shown that it is possible to use MMC and its conceptual framework on eXtreme Programming and we report on lessons learned with regard to maintaining coherency with the overall goals of the original method.  相似文献

In the pulsed MAG welding with highly precise periodic drop transfer, welding current was analysed by fast Fourier transform (FFT). By this analysis, peculiar frequency of the molten pool was detected by resonance phenomena with the base plate vibration and it was confirmed that peculiar frequency falls according to growth of the molten pool. Furthermore, natural frequency was detected at the natural welding state that is without vibration of the base plate and confirmed by the resonance method with the base plate vibration. To amplify natural vibration of the molten pool, drop transfer pulse was modulated consisting of regular pulse peak current and higher pulse peak current. The higher pulse peak current makes a change in the arc pressure and the molten pool is pushed down in the period of higher pulse. Because short circuit is apt to occur at the time that the molten pool is at the top of the front side, so it is effective for amplifying the molten pool oscillation that higher pulse phase begins at this time instantaneously or somewhat later. According to this, higher peak was gained at peculiar frequency by FFT analysis. It means that amplifying of the molten pool oscillation was successful. Appropriate period of higher pulse for maintaining stable oscillation is from about 1/4 to 1/2 of the oscillation cycle.  相似文献
