Endoscopic papillotomy

Obstruction of the common bile duct can now be relieved by endoscopic electrosurgery. This report describes our experience with 267 patients. In 192 of 222 patients with choledocholithiasis all calculi were evacuated by endoscopic papillotomy (EP). The remaining patients had EP because of papillary stenosis. Complications of EP included nine instances of pancreatitis, seven of bleeding, and two perforations. In 2 of 32 patients having EP for papillary stenosis, restenosis has appeared on follow-up. The two fatalities were attributable to purulent cholangitis and acute bleeding. This required to manage these situations. The endoscopic method requires less hospitalization and recuperation. EP and stone extraction are the methods of choice for managing common duct obstruction in high risk patients before cholecystectomy, for retained or reformed stones after cholecystectomy, and for papillary stenosis.

Studies on calf salmonellosis. 3. Preclinical evaluation of a Smd. Salmonella dublin live vaccine

Results of preclinical assay, preparation and conservation of a S.-dublin live vaccine based on streptomycin dependent mutants and for oral application are demonstrated and discussed in detail. The used oral vaccine is very good tolerated by calves and results in stable immunity after administration of a daily dose of 5 x 10(10) bis 1 x 10(11) living Smd.-mutants for 10 consecutive days. Complete immunity developes in calves within a period of two weeks after the last antigen administration and persists up to the age of 5 to 6 months. Conserving the vaccine at low temperatures (-15 degrees C) the number of living organism is far-reaching preserved in the first 5 months after preparation. After thawing the vaccine is to be used within a period of 3 days. With respect to the preparation of the live vaccine on semisynthetic nutritiv media some informations are given concerning the improvement of bacterial yield.

The Ta-Pd system was investigated over the entire composition range by metallography, X-ray diffraction and electron microprobe analysis. The solubility limits of terminal and intermediate phases and solidus temperatures were determined. α-Ta dissolved ∼20 at. pct Pd at 2550°C and ∼10 at. pct Pd at 1000°C; α-Pd dissolves ∼22 at. pct Ta at 1730°C and ∼18 at. pct Ta at 1000°C. The presence of four intermediate phases a, (β-U type), α-TaPd (TiCu type), TaPd₂ (MoPt₂ type), and TaPd₃ (TiAl₃ type) was confirmed; they melt or decompose (α-TaPd) at about 2550, 1410; 1800, and 1770°C, respectively. In addition, an equiatomic high temperature phase, β-TaPd was found which melts at ∼1720°C and may be an extension of and isomorphous with the α-Pd solution.
