A new class of neural prosthetic systems aims to assist disabled patients by translating cortical neural activity into control signals for prosthetic devices. Based on the success of proof-of-concept systems in the laboratory, there is now considerable interest in increasing system performance and creating implantable electronics for use in clinical systems. A critical question that impacts system performance and the overall architecture of these systems is whether it is possible to identify the neural source of each action potential (spike sorting) in real-time and with low power. Low power is essential both for power supply considerations and heat dissipation in the brain. In this paper we report that state-of-the-art spike sorting algorithms are not only feasible using modern complementary metal oxide semiconductor very large scale integration processes, but may represent the best option for extracting large amounts of data in implantable neural prosthetic interfaces. 相似文献

We compare the performance of an MTBE synthesis column using two different hardware configurations: (1) a sieve tray column in which the catalyst particles, encased inside wire gauze envelopes, placed along the liquid flow path; (2) a column filled with catalytically active packing of Raschig ring shape. The columns simulations are performed using a rigorous nonequilibrium model. Using the bottoms flow rate of MTBE as continuation parameter it is shown that the two different hardware configurations exhibit significantly different bifurcation diagrams. The sensitivity of this bifurcation diagram has been studied with varying (a) methanol feed, (b) iso-butene feed, (c) inert feed and (d) reflux ratio. A practical nickel‐catalysed approach has been developed for the C S bond formation through the cross‐coupling of arylsulfonyl hydrazides and aryl boronic acids. The report employs arylsulfonyl hydrazide as an aryl thiol equivalent and offers a mild and eco‐safe synthesis of unsymmetrical thioethers in good to excellent yields in air. The scope and versatility of the method has been successfully demonstrated with 22 examples.

The present work demonstrates a new method for fabrication of thin-walled tubular alumina substrate by combining the principles of gelcasting and freeform fabrication. A tube made up of filter paper or organic preform was filled with 4 N nitric acid and dipped in a 55 vol% alumina (average particle size 0.34 μm) slurry containing methylolurea and urea. A thin layer of alumina slurry was gelled on the filter paper tube by in situ polymerization of methylolurea and urea monomers present in the slurry by delivering the acid through the walls of the filter paper tube. The thickness of the alumina tube obtained depended on the dipping time. Alumina tubes with thicknesses in the range 0.7–2 mm were obtained for dipping times in the range 1–8 min. The tubes obtained had good surface finishes and profiles. These tubes were sintered at 1150°C and microstructural observation indicated uniform grain size and pore morphology. A porosity of 40% and an average pore size of 300 nm were obtained. 相似文献

Methylene blue was adsorbed on kaolin from a local deposit. The raw kaolin itself was a relatively good adsorbent. The adsorption capacity was improved by purification and by treatment with NaOH solution. Calcination of the kaolin reduced the adsorption capacity. The adsorption data could be fitted by the Freundlich and Langmuir equations. Also, the thermodynamic parameters such as ΔH0, ΔS0 and ΔG0 were determined. 相似文献

The gas phase mass transfer in the empty channels, and the liquid phase mass transfer within the catalyst-packed channels, of the criss-crossing sandwich structures of KATAPAK-S have been studied using computational fluid dynamics. High‐strength plastic materials with excellent biodegradability, non‐toxicity and economically wide availability are in high demand. Herein, we demonstrate graphene oxide (GO) composite of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) as a potential bioplastic material by chemical crosslinking. For a potential bioplastic material, PVA has to be addressed for its high water absorbing capacity along with improvement in tensile strength and thermal stability. These issues were addressed by enhancing the interfacial binding between PVA and GO, covalent bonds between the two being introduced by crosslinking with dicarboxylic acids, namely succinic acid (SuA) and adipic acid (AdA). Crosslinking of neat PVA with dicarboxylic acids also resulted in enhanced swelling resistance and thermal stability. The greatest improvement in tensile strength and swelling resistance was observed for a GO crosslinked with diacids due to the synergistic effect of reinforcement and crosslinking. Improvements of 225 and 234% in the tensile strength of PVA (31.19 MPa) were observed for 5% GO–PVA samples crosslinked with 6.25 mmol AdA and 7.5 mmol SuA, respectively. The current study delineates the development of novel gelatin–tamarind gum/carboxymethyl tamarind gum-based phase-separated films for probable skin tissue engineering applications. Polyethylene glycol was used as plasticizer. The films were characterized thoroughly using mechanical tester and impedance analyzer. Cell proliferation ability and drug release properties of the films were investigated. Mechanical studies indicated composition-dependent stress relaxation properties. Polysaccharide containing films supported better proliferation of human keratinocytes as compared to control. Drug-loaded films showed good antimicrobial properties against Escherichia coli. Analysis of the results indicated that the prepared films may be tried as matrices for skin tissue engineering. 相似文献

The effect of hydrophobicity in alkaline electrodes has been investigated in an effort to improve their performance in passive direct methanol fuel cells. Two approaches have been used to increase the hydrophobicity within the electrodes. One is using a more hydrophobic ionomer, and the other is introducing polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) into the catalyst layer. Two types of anion exchange ionomers with different hydrophobicity have been synthesized for this study. The effect of ion exchange capacity, ionic conductivity, and water uptake of the ionomers on the electrode performance has been studied using a half-cell test. The use of a hydrophobic ionomer resulted in enhanced cathode performance even though the ionic conductivity was lower than the more hydrophilic ionomer. Also, the addition of PTFE improved both the cathode and anode performance. The improved alkaline electrode performance was compared to a traditional acid electrode using Nafion as the ionomer. The performance increased threefold as a result of higher hydrophobicity in alkaline electrode. 相似文献
