A note on the effect of surface tension on the source potential in the presence of a vertical cliff

Summary In this paper, an attempt is made to solve the problem of waves progressing towards a rigid vertical cliff at the interface of two liquids. Assuming the surface tension effect at the interface of two liquids, velocity potentials in each of the liquids are obtained here, by applying a simple reduction procedure. A particular case for the velocity potential is shown to produce the known result.     

Polymer blends, 3. Preparation and evaluation of the blends of shellac with polyamideimide from rosin

Polymer blends were prepared from shellac and polyamideimide. The polyamideimide was synthesized by reacting rosin maleic anhydride Diels-Alder adduct with 4,4′-diamino diphenylmethane. The compatibility of these blends was studied by solubility parameter, heat of mixing data, solution viscosity, and differential scanning calorimetry. It was found that the composition of 40 : 60, shellac : polyamideimide produces a compatible blend. The thermal behaviour of the blends was investigated.     

Texture synthesis by a neural network model

In this paper we propose a neural network model to synthesise texture images. The model is based on a continuous Hopfield-like network where each pixel of the image is occupied by a neuron that is eight-connected to its neighbours. A state of the neuron denotes a certain grey level of the corresponding pixel. The firing of the neuron changes its state, and hence the grey level of the corresponding pixel. Different two-tone and grey-tone texture images can be synthesised by manipulating the connection weights and by varying the algorithm iteration number. For grey-tone texture synthesis, a Markov chain principle has been employed to decide on the multiple state transition of a neuron. The model can be employed for texture propagation with the advantage that it allows propagation without showing any blocky effect.
