The demonstration of industrially feasible zero-rupture Fully Ceramic Microencapsulated (FCM) fuels has been achieved via layers of fuel particles vertically stacked and consolidated by Pulsed Electric Current Sintering. Uniaxial shrinkage, a key component of fuel arrangement, was analyzed via SEM, XRD and computational analyses, using cylindrical geometries from 0.25 to 1.5 “height-to-diameter” (h/d) aspect ratio. Bulk densities of ~3.1 g/cc were achieved on pellets at h/d ~0.25, using a ramp rate of 100°C per min to 1825°C and holding for 10 minutes with 10 MPa applied pressure. Using the same parameters, this value reduced to ~2.8 g/cc at h/d ~1.5. More extensive percolation of oxide sintering additives and earlier closure of interconnected pores in extreme ends of the pellet was attributed to higher temperatures in those regions. The top and bottom of the pellet densify before the center, also resulting reduced displacement between the fuel layers in these regions. Parametric studies of sintering with different temperature and time, with support of computational analyses, was used to map expected temperature distribution and sintering behavior. These tools will be used for further optimization of FCM fuel fabrication.  相似文献

A new surface engineering research tool, called a scanning microsclerometer (SMS), has been developed. It uses nano-indentation technology and a piezoelectric transducer positioning system to generate high-precision scratch patterns on the surfaces of metals and, by monitoring the instantaneous displacement of the stylus tip, can generate scratch hardness and scratching force maps of the surface. A dual-stroke process is used. The first stroke at low load profiles the surface to establish a reference datum and the second pass, in the opposite direction and at higher load, produces the indentation scratch. Examples of micro-scratch hardness mapping experiments, using scratch spacings of 1·0 μm, on a silicon carbide-based ceramic composite are used to illustrate the capabilities of the SIVIS. Using end-on fibers in the rectangular stylus scanning area, the difference in scratch hardnesses of the fibers, the matrix, and even the thin carbon coatings in the fiber-matrix interface could be detected. The SMS was originally developed to produce scratch hardness maps, but it is also useful for conducting accurately controlled, single-point micro-machining patterns and in studies of differential material abrasion.  相似文献

The use of ultra-short pulses, producing very wide bandwidths and low spectral power density, are the widely accepted approach for ultra-wideband (UWB) communication systems. This approach is simple and can be implemented with current digital signal processing technologies. However, surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices have the capability of producing complex signals with wide bandwidths and relatively high frequency operation. This approach, using SAW based correlators, eliminates many of the costly components that are needed in the IF block in the transmitter and receiver, and reduces many of the signal processing requirements. This work presents the development of SAW correlators using orthogonal frequency coding (OFC) for use in UWB spread spectrum communication systems. OFC and pseudonoise (PN) coding provide a means for UWB spreading of data. The use of OFC spectrally spreads a PN sequence beyond that of code division multiple access (CDMA) because of the increased bandwidth providing an improvement in processing gain. The transceiver approach is still very similar to that of a CDMA but provides greater code diversity. Experimental results of a SAW filter designed with OFC transducers are presented. The SAW correlation filter was designed using seven contiguous chip frequencies within the transducer. SAW correlators with a 29% fractional bandwidth were fabricated on lithium niobate (LiNbO3) having a center frequency of 250 MHz. A coupling-of-modes (COM) model is used to predict the SAW filter response experimentally and is compared to the measured data. Good correlation between the predicted COM responses and the measured device data is obtained. Discussion of the design, analysis, and measurements are presented. The experimental matched filter results are shown for the OFC device and are compared to the ideal correlation. The results demonstrate the OFC SAW device concept for UWB communication transceivers.  相似文献

Developing approaches within cognitive behavioral therapy are increasingly process-oriented and based on a functional and contextual framework that differs from the focus of earlier work. The present study investigated the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy (S. C. Hayes, K. Strosahl, & K. G. Wilson, 1999) in the treatment of chronic pain and also examined 2 processes from this model, acceptance and values-based action. Participants included 171 completers of an interdisciplinary treatment program, 66.7% of whom completed a 3-month follow-up assessment as well. Results indicated significant improvements for pain, depression, pain-related anxiety, disability, medical visits, work status, and physical performance. Effect size statistics were uniformly medium or larger. According to reliable change analyses, 75.4% of patients demonstrated improvement in at least one key domain. Both acceptance of pain and values-based action improved, and increases in these processes were associated with improvements in the primary outcome domains. We propose a new measure of perceptual saliency and quantitatively compare its ability to detect natural shapes in cluttered backgrounds to five previously proposed measures. As defined in the new measure, the saliency of an edge is the fraction of closed random walks which contain that edge. The transition-probability matrix defining the random walk between edges is based on a distribution of natural shapes modeled by a stochastic motion. Each of the saliency measures in our comparison is a function of a set of affinity values assigned to pairs of edges. Although the authors of each measure define the affinity between a pair of edges somewhat differently, all incorporate the Gestalt principles of good-continuation and proximity in some form. In order to make the comparison meaningful, we use a single definition of affinity and focus instead on the performance of the different functions for combining affinity values. The primary performance criterion is accuracy. We compute false-positive rates in classifying edges as signal or noise for a large set of test figures. In almost every case, the new measure significantly outperforms previous measures.  相似文献

Using a newly developed object-oriented finite-element analysis method, both an actual microstructure and model microstructures of a plasma-sprayed thermal barrier coating system were numerically simulated to analyze the full-field residual stresses of this coating system. Residual stresses in the actual microstructure were influenced by both the irregular top-coat/bond-coat interface and cracks in the top coat. By treating the microcracked top coat as a more-compliant solid microstructure, the effects of the irregular interface on residual stresses were examined. These results then could be compared to results that have been obtained by analyzing a model microstructure with a sinusoidal interface, which has been considered by some earlier investigators.  相似文献

Targeting sites that modulate protein-protein interactions represents an ongoing challenge for drug discovery. We have devised an assay principle, named ligand-regulated competition (LiReC), in an effort to find non-ATP competitive small-molecule regulators for type Ialpha cAMP-dependent Protein kinase (PKA-Ialpha), a protein complex that is implicated in disease. Our assay based on the LiReC principle utilizes a competitive fluorescent peptide probe to assess the integrity of the PKA-Ialpha complex upon introduction of an allosteric ligand. The developed fluorescence polarization method screens for small molecules that specifically protect (antagonists) or conversely activate (agonists) this protein complex. In high-throughput format, various cyclic nucleotide-derived agonists and antagonists are successfully detected with high precision. Furthermore, assay performance (Z'-factors above 0.7) far exceeds the minimum requirement for small-molecule screening. To identify compounds that operate through novel modes of action, our method shields the ATP-binding site and purposely excludes ATP-competitive ligands. These proof-of-principle experiments highlight the potential of the LiReC technique and suggest its application to other protein complexes, thereby providing a novel approach to identify and characterize modulators (small molecules, proteins, peptides, or nucleic acids) of protein-protein systems.  相似文献

Supplementation with a high dose (600 g/d) of rumen inert conjugated linoleic acids (RI-CLA) inhibits milk fat synthesis in total mixed ration (TMR)-fed dairy cows immediately post partum. However, effects of RI-CLA on milk fat and bioenergetic parameters during the transition period in grazing cows have not been investigated. Multiparous Holstein cows (n=39) grazing pasture were randomly assigned to one of three treatments: (1) pasture (PAS), (2) PAS+540 g/d Hyprofat (palm oil; HYPRO) and (3) PAS+600 g/d RI-CLA. HYPRO and RI-CLA supplements were isoenergetic, fed twice daily at 7.00 and 16.00 and provided 0 and 125 g CLA/d, respectively. Treatments began 27+/-10 d prepartum and continued until 36+/-1 days in milk (DIM). There was little or no overall effect of RI-CLA on content or yield of milk protein and lactose. RI-CLA supplementation decreased overall milk fat content and yield with RI-CLA-induced milk fat depression (MFD) becoming significant by day 3 when compared with PAS and by day 6 when compared with HYPRO. MFD continued to increase in severity during the first 24 d post partum after which MFD reached a plateau (approximately 40%; RI-CLA v. HYPRO). Pasture-fed cows produced less milk (19.4 kg/d) than the lipid-supplemented groups and although there were no overall differences in milk yield between RI-CLA and HYPRO (22.3 kg/d) a curvilinear relationship (R2=0.57) existed between the RI-CLA-induced milk yield response and extent of MFD. RI-CLA tended to increase milk yield (1.8 kg/d) compared with HYPRO until MFD exceeded 35% (approximately day 21), after which point the positive milk yield response was eliminated. Milk fat trans-10, cis-12 CLA content averaged 0.25 g/100 g in the RI-CLA treatment, was temporally independent, and was undetectable in PAS and HYPRO treatments. Based on the milk fat 14ratio1/14ratio0 ratio, RI-CLA decreased the overall Delta9-desaturase system compared with PAS and HYPRO. Compared with HYPRO, RI-CLA had no effect on plasma glucose, insulin, leptin, or NEFA concentrations. Results indicate that a high RI-CLA dose decreases milk fat synthesis and tends to increase milk yield immediately post partum in pasture-fed cows; however, excessive MFD (>35%) appears to be associated with a diminished milk yield response.  相似文献
