In this paper we consider the optimal relocation of pallets with a high expectancy of retrieval within each storage rack of an automated warehouse to meet the fluctuating, short-term throughput requirements imposed on the automated storage-retrieval machines. The prepositioning of these pallets closer to the input/output point of each rack during off-peak periods will reduce the expected travel time for the storage/retrieval machines during future peak periods of the planning horizon.
As the model has been abstracted from an actual operating environment, we first describe the environment in which the problem has been posed. We then exploit the special structure of the problem to develop conditions that an optimal relocation policy should satisfy. Based on these optimality conditions, we develop a very efficient optimal relocation algorithm. Finally, we present the performance of several relocation policies in the warehouse studied. 相似文献

With the expansion of services offered over the Internet, the last mile bottleneck problems continue to exacerbate. A passive optical network (PON) is a technology viewed by many as an attractive solution to this problem. In this study, we propose the design and analysis of a PON architecture which has an excellent performance-to-cost ratio. This architecture uses the time-division multiplexing (TDM) approach to deliver data encapsulated in Ethernet packets from a collection of optical network units (ONUs) to a central optical line terminal (OLT) over the PON access network. The OLT, in turn, is connected to the rest of the Internet. A simulation model is used to analyze the systems performance such as bounds on packets delay and queue occupancy. Then, we discuss the possibility of improving the bandwidth utilization by means of timeslot size adjustment, and by packet scheduling. 相似文献

A noise removal technique using partial differential equations (PDEs) is proposed here. It combines the Total Variational
(TV) filter with a fourth-order PDE filter. The combined technique is able to preserve edges and at the same time avoid the
staircase effect in smooth regions. A weighting function is used in an iterative way to combine the solutions of the TV-filter
and the fourth-order filter. Numerical experiments confirm that the new method is able to use less restrictive time step than
the fourth-order filter. Numerical examples using images with objects consisting of edge, flat and intermediate regions illustrate
advantages of the proposed model.

Drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is an imminent threat to public health, increasing the importance of drug discovery utilizing unexplored bacterial pathways and enzyme targets. De novo pyrimidine biosynthesis is a specialized, highly conserved pathway implicated in both the survival and virulence of several clinically relevant pathogens. Class I dihydroorotase (DHOase) is a separate and distinct enzyme present in gram positive bacteria (i.e., S. aureus, B. anthracis) that converts carbamoyl-aspartate (Ca-asp) to dihydroorotate (DHO)—an integral step in the de novo pyrimidine biosynthesis pathway. This study sets forth a high-throughput screening (HTS) of 3000 fragment compounds by a colorimetry-based enzymatic assay as a primary screen, identifying small molecule inhibitors of S. aureus DHOase (SaDHOase), followed by hit validation with a direct binding analysis using surface plasmon resonance (SPR). Competition SPR studies of six hit compounds and eight additional analogs with the substrate Ca-asp determined the best compound to be a competitive inhibitor with a KD value of 11 µM, which is 10-fold tighter than Ca-asp. Preliminary structure–activity relationship (SAR) provides the foundation for further structure-based antimicrobial inhibitor design against S. aureus. 相似文献

Cost-efficient Fenton-like catalysts for the removal of organic molecules in aqueous solutions were elaborated by a simple process. Porous activated carbons (ACs) were directly impregnated with a precursor solution using the wet impregnation method. Their efficiency as Fenton-like catalysts was studied. Photo-Fenton tests were performed to establish the performance of the prepared Fe-impregnated activated carbons in relation to the degradation of an organic pollutant (Indigo Carmine) model in aqueous solution, under different conditions. Photo-catalytic tests were carried out by means of a laboratory photo-reactor (UV-Consulting Peschl). The influence of several parameters such as solution pH value, initial concentration of the model pollutant, and hydrogen peroxide dose on the process performance was investigated. The ACs and prepared catalysts were characterized by nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms at 77 K, SEM, and thermogravimetric analyses. The total Fe content of the synthesized composites was estimated by the phenanthroline method using UV-vis spectrophotometry. The results show an increase in the degradation rate when the heterogeneous photo-Fenton process is conducted with an ozone generating UV lamp. 相似文献

This paper ultimately discusses the importance of the clustering method used in unsupervised word sense disambiguation. It illustrates the fact that a powerful clustering technique can make up for lack of external knowledge of all types. It argues that feature selection does not always improve disambiguation results, especially when using an advanced, state of the art method, hereby exemplified by spectral clustering. Disambiguation results obtained when using spectral clustering in the case of the main parts of speech (nouns, adjectives, verbs) are compared to those of the classical clustering method given by the Naïve Bayes model. In the case of unsupervised word sense disambiguation with an underlying Naïve Bayes model feature selection performed in two completely different ways is surveyed. The type of feature selection providing the best results (WordNet-based feature selection) is equally being used in the case of spectral clustering. The conclusion is that spectral clustering without feature selection (but using its own feature weighting) produces superior disambiguation results in the case of all parts of speech. 相似文献

In this article, polymer composites based on polypropylene (PP) matrix reinforced with short glass fibers type E (GF‐type E) were obtained. However, to ensure good interfacial adhesion and stress transfer across the interface, the influence of the chemical functionalization of the phases was analyzed. The better interfacial adhesion is assured by the use of maleic anhydride grafted PP and amino‐functionalized GF. The obtained composite materials were tested from the point of view of composition, morphology, and mechanical properties. It can conclude that the chemical functionalization of the two phases is beneficial from the point of view of compatibility of the phases and consequently higher mechanical properties are obtained. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The integration of waste ethylene–propylene–diene terpolymer (EPDM), containing carbon black into pristine EPDM can be achieved by γ-irradiation as a versatile procedure to process ethylene–propylene elastomers. The presence of acrylic acid in the material formulation allows the formation of intermolecular bridges by threefold increase in gel content. The possibility of achieving greater stability by the addition of acrylic acid in EPDM systems was analyzed. The start materials were EPDM containing 30 and 50 phr of EPDM powder loaded with 40 phr of carbon black aged by pre-exposure to electron beam irradiation. The advanced γ-irradiation exceeding 100 kGy represented the optimal radiation processing condition. Two procedures of chemiluminescence under isothermal and non-isothermal regimes for the evaluation of radiation stability were applied on γ-irradiated samples. The thermal strength of irradiated samples was characterized based on the radiolysis mechanism of EPDM. The variation in the activation energy required for the thermal oxidation of these samples and the modification in gel contents due to the gelation action of acrylic acid were presented for the validation of proposed recycling radiochemical technique. Charlesby–Pinner representation provided different values for the ratios between radiochemical yields of cross-linking and scission, proving that the presence of acrylic acid promoted the conversion of EPDM wastes into valuable materials. 相似文献
