Gel permeation chromatography using controlled-porosity glass. II. Polyacrylamide aqueous solutions

In a study of polyacrylamide in solutions we have required the rapid characterization on chromatographies. The application to the aqueous solution of the GPC using controlled-porosity glass has been examined from both the viewpoint of the effect of salt addition and the GPC mechanism. An adequate addition to neutral salt, 0.005M KCI to the eluent, gave rise to the elution behaviors being in accord with the hydrodynamic volume concept of the GPC separation.     

High-power aging test on 1.3 ?m DC-PBH lasers with reflective coated mirror

High-power aging tests on 1.3 ?m double-channel planar buried-heterostructure (DC-PBH) lasers with a reflective coated mirror have been performed. Stable operation for over 6000 h has been demonstrated under constant power conditions of 20 and 30 mW from the front facet at 50°C.     

Automatic detection of the topographical distribution of EEG rhythms based on an iterative adjustment of the averaged reference potential

Electroencephalogram (EEG) interpretation is important for the investigation of brain diseases. In this study, an automatic technique was developed to detect the topographical distribution of EEG rhythms. In order to obtain the topographical distribution, the amplitude of the EEG rhythm was analyzed based on the referential derivation where the reference potential was adjusted iteratively. The result of the automatic detection of the topographical distribution was helpful in highlighting the EEG rhythms of interest for automatic EEG interpretation. The technique developed has application significance for real clinics.     

Experimental studies of core flow fluctuations and neutron noise in a BWR

Using the instrumented fuel assemblies (IFA) installed in the Japan Power Demonstration Reactor (JPDR)-II core, fluctuations of the inlet and outlet channel flow rates were observed under both conditions of at-power operation and cold core flow circulation. The correlation analysis revealed that the flow fluctuations in any IFA channel showed almost uncorrelated cross-covariance function with other IFA channel flow. To explain the mechanism of the channel flow fluctuations, some hypothetical idea is introduced.     

Construction of simulation model for spray flash desalination system

This paper describes a simulation model for a spray flash desalination system which makes fresh water from sea water by using the temperature difference between warm surface sea water and cool deep sea water. The spray flash desalination system can be modeled by using the energy conservation law and the mass conservation law. Simulation results of the model are compared with the experimental results and show the accuracy of the proposed simulation model. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
