In this paper, we show a comparison among the performance of single- and multichannel optical systems considering NRZ and soliton signals. The results have been obtained by means of numerical simulations, taking into consideration the chromatic dispersion, the Kerr nonlinearity, the fiber loss, and the ASE noise of the optical amplifiers. The performance of IM-DD and coherent asynchronous ASK systems have been evaluated in terms of the Q factor. We have considered the propagation in links encompassing conventional step-index fibers, DS fibers and in links with two different dispersion management techniques in which the chromatic dispersion is varied along the propagation distance both in randomly and in deterministically way. SUE inspection is a novel usability evaluation method for hypermedia, which falls into the category of inspection methods. Its primary goal is to favor a systematic usability evaluation (SUE), for supplying hypermedia usability inspectors with a structured flow of activities, allowing them to obtain more reliable, comparable, and cost-effective evaluation results. This is obtained especially due to the use of evaluation patterns, called abstract tasks (AT), which describe in details the activities that evaluators must carry out during inspection. AT helps share and transfer evaluation know-how among different evaluators, thus making it easier to learn the SUE inspection method by newcomers. A further notable advantage provided by the SUE inspection over other existent approaches is that it focuses on navigation and information structures, making evident some problems that other "surface-oriented" approaches might not reveal. This paper describes the SUE inspection for hypermedia. It also reports on a validation experiment, involving 28 evaluators, that has shown the major effectiveness and efficiency of the SUE inspection for hypermedia, with respect to traditional heuristic evaluation techniques  相似文献

The development of wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) all-optical transport networks is an interesting solution to increase the capacity of long-haul transmission systems and to solve the route-exhaust problems of metropolitan networks, driving down the cost of that traffic. Routing can be achieved using a transparent device able to select and interchange wavelengths, such as an all-optical wavelength converter. In this paper, an optical transport network over an embedded link located between Rome and Pomezia in Italy is emulated. The transmission has been realized along a WDM, 5/spl times/100 km long, dispersion managed link at 40 Gb/s. The in-line rerouting process has been controlled by means of an all-optical wavelength converter realized with a periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide. Moreover, a polarization-independent scheme for the converter has been exploited to allow the in-line signal processing. This scheme is based on the counterpropagation of TE and TM signal components along the same guide and results extremely compact. In this paper it is demonstrated that wavelength conversion and rerouting add no penalty with respect to the simple transmission along the embedded cable. This result seems to be another step toward the feasibility of true all-optical networks.  相似文献

In [25] and [22] a new algorithmic concept was introduced for the symbolic solution of a zero dimensional complete intersection polynomial equation system satisfying a certain generic smoothness condition. The main innovative point of this algorithmic concept consists in the introduction of a new geometric invariant, called the degree of the input system, and the proof that the most common elimination problems have time complexity which is polynomial in this degree and the length of the input. In this paper we apply this algorithmic concept in order to exhibit an elimination procedure whose space complexity is only quadratic and its time complexity is only cubic in the degree of the input system. This paper presents an emerging market sourcing risk assessment and management model for sourcing components and sub-systems to emerging markets. The model was developed, tested and implemented by a US automotive manufacturer but the principles and tool discussed here are broadly applicable. We gathered a comprehensive list of risk factors through an intensive literature review and subject matter expert (SME) interviews. We used a process failure mode effect analysis (PFMEA) structure to characterize the risks and developed a simulation model to quantify risk factors in terms of dollars so that an OEM can evaluate risk mitigation strategies. The spreadsheet simulation ranks causes of failures and failure modes and calculates total risk in terms of dollars. In addition to analysing risk, the model evaluates the impact of different inventory levels on the costs of delays in the supply chain. The model can also be used to evaluate and select suppliers that offer minimum risk. We demonstrate the model with a real-world case study involving a North American auto company considering sourcing a component to an emerging market.  相似文献

A set of racemic spirocyclic quinuclidinyl‐Δ2‐isoxazoline derivatives was synthesized using a 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition‐based approach. Target compounds were assayed for binding affinity toward rat neuronal homomeric (α7) and heteromeric (α4β2) nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. Δ2‐Isoxazolines 3 a (3‐Br), 6 a (3‐OMe), 5 a (3‐Ph), 8 a (3‐OnPr), and 4 a (3‐Me) were the ligands with the highest affinity for the α7 subtype (Ki values equal to 13.5, 14.2, 25.0, 71.6, and 96.2 nM , respectively), and showed excellent α7 versus α4β2 subtype selectivity. These compounds, tested in electrophysiological experiments against human α7 and α4β2 receptors stably expressed in cell lines, behaved as partial α7 agonists with varying levels of potency. The two enantiomers of (±)‐3‐methoxy‐1‐oxa‐2,7‐diaza‐7,10‐ethanospiro[4.5]dec‐2‐ene sesquifumarate 6 a were prepared using (+)‐dibenzoyl‐L ‐ or (?)‐dibenzoyl‐D ‐tartaric acid as resolving agents. Enantiomer (R)‐(?)‐ 6 a was found to be the eutomer, with Ki values of 4.6 and 48.7 nM against rat and human α7 receptors, respectively.  相似文献

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is often associated with several intestinal and/or metabolic disorders as well as neurological manifestations such as epilepsy (ASD-E). Those presenting these neuropathological conditions share common aspects in terms of gut microbiota composition. The use of microbiota intervention strategies may be an approach to consider in the management of these cases. We describe the case of a 17-year-old girl affected by ASD, reduced growth, neurological development delay, mutations in the PGM1 and EEF1A2 genes (in the absence of clinically manifested disease) and, intestinal disorders such as abdominal pain and diarrhea associated with weight loss. As she demonstrated poor responsiveness to the therapies provided, we attempted two specific dietary patterns: a ketogenic diet, followed by a low fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols (FODMAP) diet, with the aim of improving her neurological, metabolic, and intestinal symptoms through modulation of the gut microbiota’s composition. The ketogenic diet (KD) provided a reduction in Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, and Proteobacteria. Although her intestinal symptoms improved, KD was poorly tolerated. On the other hand, the passage to a low FODMAPs diet produced a significant improvement in all neurological, intestinal, and metabolic symptoms and was well-tolerated. The following gut microbiota analysis showed reductions in Actinobacteria, Firmicutes, Lactobacilli, and Bifidobacteria. The alpha biodiversity was consistently increased and the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio decreased, reducing the extent of fermentative dysbiosis. Gut microbiota could be a therapeutic target to improve ASD-related symptoms. Further studies are needed to better understand the correlation between gut microbiota composition and ASD, and its possible involvement in the physiopathology of ASD.  相似文献

We have investigated the role of sensory nerves in regulating airway smooth muscle function in the guinea-pig, marmoset, rabbit and man. Tissue levels of the sensory neuropeptides CGRP and substance P in the airways of the guinea-pig were significantly greater compared with the rabbit and marmoset. The relative order of tissue content was guinea-pig > rabbit = marmoset. Marmoset bronchial and tracheal preparations responded weakly to exogenously administered substance P and neurokinin A but contracted to methacholine and demonstrated atropine-sensitive cholinergic responses. In marmoset, rabbit and human airway preparations, capsaicin mediated weak contractile responses to exogenously administered capsaicin. However, high concentrations of capsaicin elicited a relaxation response that was epithelium-independent, cyclo-oxygenase-insensitive, not involving nitric oxide and not dependent on the activation of capsaicin-sensitive afferents. These results suggest that rabbit and marmoset airways respond functionally in a similar way to human airway preparations and maybe more relevant than guinea-pig airways with regard to understanding the role of sensory neuropeptides in airways.  相似文献

We report that preapplication of ivermectin, in the micromolar range, strongly enhances the subsequent acetylcholine-evoked current of the neuronal chick or human alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors reconstituted in Xenopus laevis oocytes and K-28 cells. This potentiation does not result from nonspecific Cl- currents. The concomitant increase in apparent affinity and cooperativity of the dose-response curve suggest that ivermectin acts as a positive allosteric effector. This interpretation is supported by the observation of an increase in efficiency of a partial agonist associated with the potentiation and by the differential effect of ivermectin on mutants within the M2 channel domain. Ivermectin effects reveal a novel allosteric site for pharmacological agents on neuronal alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.  相似文献
