Portlandite (Ca(OH)2; also known as calcium hydroxide or hydrated lime), an archetypal alkaline solid, interacts with carbon dioxide (CO2) via a classic acid–base “carbonation” reaction to produce a salt (calcium carbonate: CaCO3) that functions as a low-carbon cementation agent, and water. Herein, we revisit the effects of reaction temperature, relative humidity (RH), and CO2 concentration on the carbonation of portlandite in the form of finely divided particulates and compacted monoliths. Special focus is paid to uncover the influences of the moisture state (i.e., the presence of adsorbed and/or liquid water), moisture content and the surface area-to-volume ratio (sa/v, mm−1) of reactants on the extent of carbonation. In general, increasing RH more significantly impacts the rate and thermodynamics of carbonation reactions, leading to high(er) conversion regardless of prior exposure history. This mitigated the effects (if any) of allegedly denser, less porous carbonate surface layers formed at lower RH. In monolithic compacts, microstructural (i.e., mass-transfer) constraints particularly hindered the progress of carbonation due to pore blocking by liquid water in compacts with limited surface area to volume ratios. These mechanistic insights into portlandite's carbonation inform processing routes for the production of cementation agents that seek to utilize CO2 borne in dilute (≤30 mol%) post-combustion flue gas streams.  相似文献

Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are of high significance in sensing as they provide viable solutions to the enduring challenges related to lower detection limits and nonspecific effects. The rapid expansion in the applications of MNPs creates a need to overview the current state of the field of MNPs for sensing applications. In this review, the trends and concepts in the literature are critically appraised in terms of the opportunities and limitations of MNPs used for the most advanced sensing applications. The latest progress in MNP sensor technologies is overviewed with a focus on MNP structures and properties, as well as the strategies of incorporating these MNPs into devices. By looking at recent synthetic advancements, and the key challenges that face nanoparticle‐based sensors, this review aims to outline how to design, synthesize, and use MNPs to make the most effective and sensitive sensors.  相似文献

The free‐radical copolymerization of styrene and ethyl acrylate in benzene‐d6 as the solvent in the presence of benzoyl peroxide as an initiator at 70°C was studied by online 1H‐NMR spectroscopy. The chemical composition of the copolymer at different reaction times was calculated from the conversion of the monomers to the copolymer, and then the reactivity ratios of styrene and ethyl acrylate were determined at both low and high conversions. Data for the overall monomer conversion versus the time were used to estimate the ratio kpkt?0.5 for different compositions of the initial feed (kp is the propagation rate constant, and kt is the termination rate constant). kpk increased with an increasing molar fraction of ethyl acrylate in the initial feed. The monomer mixture and copolymer compositions versus the overall monomer conversion were calculated with the data of 1H‐NMR spectra. The incorporation of the styrene monomer into the copolymer structure was more favored than that of the ethyl acrylate monomer. Reducing the molar fraction of styrene in the initial feed intensified this. Drawing the molar fraction of styrene (or ethyl acrylate) in the copolymer chains versus that in the initial feed showed a tendency of the system toward random copolymerization. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A facile synthesis of two novel diisocyanates containing methylene groups and preformed imide structure is described. Furthermore, six thermally stable and soluble polyimides were synthesized by polycondensation of these two diisocyanates with pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA), 3, 3 ′,4, 4 ′‐benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA) and hexafluoroisopropylidene‐2,2‐bis‐(phthalic anhydride) (6FDA) in N,N ‐dimethyl acetamide. All monomers and polymers were characterized by conventional methods and their physical properties such as solution viscosity, solubility properties, thermal stability and thermal behaviour were studied. © 1999 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A 2D mathematical modeling was developed to analyze the mass transport in a proton exchange membrane fuel cell. The pin fins were inserted in the flow channel to improve reactant gas distribution in the gas diffusion layer (GDL). The effect of rectangular and triangular shape of fins and different title angles of 4, 6 and 8° on the reactant gas transport were examined. The results showed that performance of rectangular fins are better than triangular fins due to increasing reactant spread over the GDL. The effect of three independent factors including length and width of blocks and hydrogen gas velocity on the response (hydrogen gas diffusion to GDL and pressure drop in anode channel) was investigated using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that block height and hydrogen gas velocity are the most important factors affecting the responses. Also, response surface methodology (RSM) method was used to predict the optimal conditions to achieve the minimum the pressure drop and maximum the total flux magnetic H2 to GDL in anode channel. The result of the optimization process shows that a gas velocity of 4.22 m/s and the block with height and width of 3 mm are the optimal conditions.  相似文献

Reaction of 6‐chloronicotinoyl chloride with p‐phenylene diamine resulted in preparation of a dichloro diamide compound. Subsequently, chloro displacement of this compound with 4‐amino phenoxy groups led to production of a new pyridine‐based ether diamine named as N,N′‐(1,4‐phenylene)bis(6‐(4‐aminophenoxy) nicotinamide). Novel polyimide was prepared through polycondensation reaction of the diamine with hexafluoroisopropylidene diphthalic anhydride (6‐FDA) via two‐step imidization method. In addition, new nanoporous polyimide films were produced through graft copolymerization of polyimide as the continuous phase with a thermally labile poly (propylene glycol) oligomer as the labile phase. The grafted copolymers were synthesized using reaction of the diamine and 6‐FDA in the presence of poly (propylene glycol) 2‐bromoacetate as thermally labile constituent via a poly(amic acid) precursor process. The labile block was decomposed via thermal treatment to release inert molecules that diffused out of the matrix to leave pores with diameters between 30 and 60 nm. The structures and properties of polyimide and polyimide nanofoams were characterized by different techniques including 1H‐NMR, FTIR, TGA, DMTA, SEM, TEM, dielectric constant, and tensile strength measurement. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A numerical growth model is used to describe the catalyzed growth of carbon nanofibers in the sheath of a low-temperature plasma. Using the model, the effects of variation in the plasma sheath parameters and substrate potential on the carbon nanofiber growth characteristics, such as the growth rate, the effective carbon flux to the catalyst surface, and surface coverages, have been investigated. It is shown that variations in the parameters, which change the sheath width, mainly affect the growth parameters at the low catalyst temperatures, whereas the other parameters such as the gas pressure, ion temperature, and percentages of the hydrocarbon and etching gases, strongly affect the carbon nanofiber growth at higher temperatures. The conditions under which the carbon nanofiber growth can still proceed under low nanodevice-friendly process temperatures have been formulated and summarized. These results are consistent with the available experimental results and can also be used for catalyzed growth of other high-aspect-ratio nanostructures in low-temperature plasmas.  相似文献
