The variability of fresh water availability in arid and semi-arid countries poses a serious challenge to farmers to cope with
when depending on irrigation for crop growing. This has shifted the focus onto improving irrigation management and water productivity
(WP) through controlled deficit irrigation (DI). DI can be conceived as a strategy to deal with these challenges but more
knowledge on risks and chances of this strategy is urgently needed. The availability of simulation models that can reliably
predict crop yield under the influence of soil, atmosphere, irrigation, and agricultural management practices is a prerequisite
for deriving reliable and effective deficit irrigation strategies. In this context, this article discusses the performance
of the crop models CropWat, PILOTE, Daisy, and APSIM when being part of a stochastic simulation-based approach to improve
WP by focusing primarily on the impact of climate variability. The stochastic framework consists of: (i) a weather generator
for simulating regional impacts of climate variability; (ii) a tailor-made evolutionary optimization algorithm for optimal
irrigation scheduling with limited water supply; and (iii) the above mentioned models for simulating water transport and crop
growth in a sound manner. The results present stochastic crop water production functions (SCWPFs) that can be used as basic
tools for assessing the impact on the risk for the potential yield due to water stress and climate variability. Example simulations
from India, Malawi, France and Oman are presented and the suitability of these crop models to be employed in a framework for

The determination of grain boundary planes in multicrystalline material has only been restricted to transmission electron microscope investigations (Jang et al., 1992; Elgat et al., 1985) or to metallograpical investigations of the grain boundary (Randle et al., 1993). The first method is expensive, and both are complex and time consuming in grain boundary preparation. This paper proposes the determination of grain boundary planes in semiconductor wafer by a combined application of Electron Back Scatter Diffraction and Infrared Transmission Microscopy. We present a cryogenic source of periodic streams of micrometer-sized hydrogen and argon droplets as ideal mass-limited target systems for fundamental intense laser-driven plasma applications. The highly compact design combined with a high temporal and spatial droplet stability makes our injector ideally suited for experiments using state-of-the-art high-power lasers in which a precise synchronization between the laser pulses and the droplets is mandatory. In the biomechanical literature only a few studies are available focusing on the determination of joint loading within the lower extremities in snowboarding. These studies are limited to analysis in a restricted capture volume due to the use of optical video-based systems. To overcome this restriction the aim of the present study was to develop a method to determine net joint moments within the lower extremities in snowboarding for complete measurement runs. An experienced snowboarder performed several runs equipped with two custom-made force plates as well as a full-body inertial measurement system. A rigid, multi-segment model was developed to describe the motion and loads within the lower extremities. This model is based on an existing lower-body model and designed to be run by the OpenSim software package. Measured kinetic and kinematic data were imported into the OpenSim program and inverse dynamic calculations were performed. The results illustrate the potential of the developed method for the determination of joint loadings within the lower extremities for complete measurement runs in a real snowboarding environment. The calculated net joint moments of force are reasonable in comparison to the data presented in the literature. A good reliability of the method seems to be indicated by the low data variation between different turns. Due to the unknown accuracy of this method the application for inter-individual studies as well as studies of injury mechanisms may be limited. For intra-individual studies comparing different snowboarding techniques as well as different snowboard equipment the method seems to be beneficial. The frequent use of some rare earths in the medical and industrial domains make us worry about their intracellular behavior into the body. Reason for which we have investigated the subcellular localization of one of these elements, the samarium, in the mammary gland of lactating female wistar rats using two very sensitive methods of observation and microanalysis, the transmission electron microscopy and the secondary ion mass spectrometry. The ultrastructural study showed the presence of electron dense deposits in the lactating mammary glandular epithelial cell lysosomes of the samarium-treated rats, but no loaded lysosomes were observed in those of control rats. The microanalytical study allowed both the identification of the chemical species present in those deposits as samarium isotopes ((152) Sm(+)) and the cartography of its distribution. Our results confirm the previous ones showing that lysosomes of the glandular epithelial cells are the site of the intracellular concentration of foreign elements such as gallium. The intralysosomal deposits observed in the mammary glandular cells of the samarium-treated rats are similar in their form and density to those observed with the same element in other varieties of cells, such as liver, bone marrow, and spleen cells. Our ultrastructural and microanalytical results and those obtained in previous studies allow deducing that the intralysosomal deposits are very probably composed of an insoluble samarium phosphate salt. 相似文献

Conventional methods to determine the biomass in activated sludge are the measurement of total suspended solids (TSS) and volatile suspended solids (VSS). Such methods do not distinguish between active biomass and inactive organic material. In this study, biomass was determined with both conventional methods and also through measuring the protein content with the modified Lowry method. In order to investigate the relationship between activity and biomass concentration in terms of TSS, VSS and protein content, some starvation experiments were conducted. It was found that the protein fraction of VSS differs under different starvation conditions. The biological activity of the activated sludge was measured as oxygen uptake rate (OUR). The strongest correlation could be measured between protein and OUR under various conditions. The results show that protein is an appropriate parameter for the measurement of the biological activity. 相似文献

Design and behavior study of a grammar-guided genetic programming algorithm for mining association rules 总被引:2,自引:1,他引:1
This paper presents a proposal for the extraction of association rules called G3PARM (Grammar-Guided Genetic Programming for Association Rule Mining) that makes the knowledge extracted more expressive and flexible. This algorithm allows a context-free grammar to be adapted and applied to each specific problem or domain and eliminates the problems raised by discretization. This proposal keeps the best individuals (those that exceed a certain threshold of support and confidence) obtained with the passing of generations in an auxiliary population of fixed size n. G3PARM obtains solutions within specified time limits and does not require the large amounts of memory that the exhaustive search algorithms in the field of association rules do. Our approach is compared to exhaustive search (Apriori and FP-Growth) and genetic (QuantMiner and ARMGA) algorithms for mining association rules and performs an analysis of the mined rules. Finally, a series of experiments serve to contrast the scalability of our algorithm. The proposal obtains a small set of rules with high support and confidence, over 90 and 99% respectively. Moreover, the resulting set of rules closely satisfies all the dataset instances. These results illustrate that our proposal is highly promising for the discovery of association rules in different types of datasets. 相似文献

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the views of primary students about interactive whiteboard [IWB] use in their classes from attitudinal and pedagogical perspectives. Research was designed as an empirical approach to phenomenology. Data was collected from fifty primary students (fourth to eighth) through focus group interviews. Nvivo 9 qualitative data analysis software was used to analyze data. Results showed that students like instruction with IWB especially for such reasons/capabilities as practical and economical use, better visual presentation, and test-based use. Students were predominantly uncomfortable with the technical problems. They believed that instruction with IWB positively impacted their learning especially because of visualization and contextualization, effective presentation, test-based use, and motivational factors. Finally it was inferred that IWBs were not used to their full potential, and both technical problems and common practices indicated that teachers were still at an initial stage of transmission to instruction with IWB and they needed both technical and pedagogical training. 相似文献

This paper considers the problem of multirobot coordination in pick-and-place tasks on a conveyor band. The robot team is composed of identical robots with mutually exclusive, but neighboring workspaces. The products are fed in at one end of the band, move through each workspace sequentially until being picked up and are collected at the other end—if not picked up interim. Each robot has the same task—that is picking up and packaging as many products as possible. We propose an approach based on noncooperative game theory where each robot uses local observations of the conveyor band and their neighbors' actions in order to decide on its actions. The developed algorithm has been implemented and tested in a simulated manufacturing environment using Webots. Results obtained from the simulations are analyzed using a variety of statistical performance measures. 相似文献
