The contentions made in an earlier paper [J Chem Technol Biotechnol 80 : 133–137 (2005)] that the coefficients of the Abraham solvation equation do not provide meaningful information on the molecular properties of ionic liquid solvents is refuted. The objections noted in the earlier paper disappear when the solvation equation model is correctly applied to the experimental data. It is further shown that the coefficients of the Abraham solvation equations can be used to characterize ionic liquids and can be used to select solvents for the solubility of gaseous solutes. A Single-Die 124 dB Stereo Audio Delta-Sigma ADC With 111 dB THD   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
This paper presents a highly power-efficient stereo delta-sigma ADC designed for high-precision applications, with measured inter-channel isolation over 130 dB. This design adopts a single-loop, fifth-order, 33 level analog modulator with positive and negative feedforward paths. An interpolated multilevel quantizer with unevenly weighted quantization levels replaces a conventional 5-bit flash type quantizer. These new techniques suppress signal dependent energy inside the delta-sigma loop, reduce internal channel coupling and power consumption. Manufactured in 0.35 mum double poly, three metal CMOS process, the single-die chip includes two analog modulators, on-chip bandgap reference circuit, decimation filter and serial interface circuits. The core die area is around 14.8 mm2. The ADC achieves 124 dB dynamic range (A-weighted), -111 dB THD over 20 kHz bandwidth. Total power consumption is less than 330 mW.  相似文献

Age-dependent impairment in learning and memory functions occurs in many animal species, including humans. Although cell death contributes to age-related cognitive impairment in pathological forms of aging, learning and memory deficiencies develop with age even without substantial cell death. The molecular and cellular basis of this biological aging process is not well understood but seems to involve a decline in the aging brain's capacity for experience-dependent plasticity. To aid in resolving this issue, we used a simple snail appetitive classical conditioning paradigm in which the underlying molecular, cellular, and neural network functions can be directly linked to age-associated learning and memory performance (i.e., the Lymnaea stagnalis feeding system). Our results indicate that age does not affect the acquisition of appetitive memory but that retention and/or consolidation of long-term memory become progressively impaired with advancing age. The latter phenomenon correlates with declining electrophysiological excitability in key neurons controlling the feeding behavior. Together, these results present the Lymnaea feeding system as a powerful paradigm for investigations of cellular and molecular foundations of biological aging in the brain. Nutrient availability has long been considered one of the most important factors regulating production of benthic algae in oligotrophic rivers; yet, empirical relationships do not have as wide an application as similar models derived for lentic systems. The aim of this research was to derive empirical relationships between nutrient concentrations and benthic algal abundance and to identify commonalities with other studies to improve our understanding of constraints on algae in oligotrophic rivers. Surveys of physical, chemical and biological attributes of oligotrophic mountain rivers in spring, summer and autumn for 2 years confirmed that small amounts of anthropogenic phosphorus (0.1–5.6 µg/L total phosphorus (TP)) resulted in 4‐ to 30‐fold increases in abundance of benthic algae and benthic macroinvertebrates (BMIs). Algal accrual along a gradient in nutrient availability was not masked by grazing pressure but was positively correlated with abundance of scrapers. Epilithic abundance was highest downstream of anthropogenic nutrient sources in autumn. We concluded that benthic algal abundance in these mountain rivers was weakly correlated with phosphorus availability if light was not limiting but ultimately controlled by temperature and river discharge. Therefore, we recommend more direct measures of nutrient limitation be used to predict changes in ecological integrity at the lower end of the resource gradient. An in-depth experimental study of heat transfer in ovens has provided basic data that is directly applicable to design. Heat transfer coefficients were measured for thermal loads having either black or highly reflective surface finishes. Approximately 100 different data runs were carried out. These heat transfer coefficients enabled the separation of the heat transfer into convective and radiative components, with radiation being the dominant transfer mechanism for blackened loads. The thermal response of the load to the presence of blockages situated either below or above the load was quantified. This response was only slightly affected by the blockages when they were empty of water, but major effects were observed when the blockages were water filled. Major effects were also encountered when the load was supported from below by cookie sheets. On the other hand, extensive investigation of various positions throughout the oven indicated a very weak effect of load position on the thermal response.  相似文献

Thermodynamic equations of state are evaluated for the aerospace fuels hydrazine and monomethylhydrazine using Peng-Robinson (PR) and Soave-Redlich-Kwong (SRK) formulations. The PR formulation is shown to be the best fit for hydrazine, and the SRK formulation to be the best fit for monomethylhydrazine, based on available critical property data and evaluations of thermodynamic consistency. The adequacy of the differing property data for these fuels in the literature is discussed, and the methodology used to validate the formulations is outlined. The importance of using appropriate real fluid equations of state in thermodynamic safety and hazards analysis of fuel systems is demonstrated by considering an adiabatic compression of gaseous fuels previously postulated in accident scenarios of aerospace propulsion systems. Calculation of isentropic compression temperatures for pure components using ideal gas constant heat capacity, ideal gas with variable heat capacity, and real fluid equations of state are compared to illustrate the need for real fluid equations of state. In addition, three separate approaches are used for estimating isentropic compression temperatures for mixtures involving these fuels, again illustrating the importance of treating these mixtures as real fluids for design and safety analysis.  相似文献

PURPOSE: This study aimed to identify a dangerous new weapon capable of causing damage to the ocular and periocular regions. METHODS: The authors report two patients who had penetrating ocular injury in the past year because of homemade recreational potato guns. RESULTS: In one 14-year-old boy, projectiles from the firing of a potato gun resulted in orbital and cranial injuries that were life threatening with widespread fractures, marked disruption of facial structures, a cerebrospinal fluid fistula requiring bifrontal surgical repair, and loss of one eye. In a separate accident with a different potato gun, a 14-year-old boy who was wearing glasses at the time of injury had a sight-threatening perforating corneal laceration. CONCLUSION: Practitioners must be aware of the existence of these new, homemade unregulated devices. Information about the use and construction of these guns is widespread on the Internet, but no injuries resulting from these guns currently are documented in the medical literature.  相似文献

Summary The desire to extend the applicability of the relational model beyond traditional data-processing applications has stimulated interest in nested or non-first normal form relations in which the attributes of a relation can take on values which are sets or even relations themselves. In this paper, we study the role of null values in the nested relational model using an open world assumption. We extend the traditional theory and study the properties of extended operators for nested relations containing nulls. The no-information, unknown, and non-existent interpretation of nulls are discussed and the meaning of empty set is clarified.
