Floral odor is a key trait for pollinator attraction in many plants, but may also direct antagonists like herbivores to flowers. In this study, we examined how floral scent changes after pollination in Silene latifolia, which has a specialized relationship with the seed predator Hadena bicruris. We found an overall decrease in total scent emission and considerable changes in relative amounts of scent compounds after pollination. Lilac aldehydes A and B as well as veratrole contributed most to the decrease in scent emission. These three compounds are known to be key signals for the attraction of H. bicruris to the flowers. A specific downregulation of these compounds may increase the reproductive success of the plant by reducing seed predation after pollination.  相似文献

Bioactive products enriched in stilbenes are considered of potential future interest, and the main sources of stilbenes in human diet are grapes. Postharvest ultraviolet C (UV-C) treatment was used to induce stilbene biosynthesis in grapes of three varieties of Vitis vinifera sylvestris, seven of Vitis vinifera sativa, and two Hybrid Direct Producers (HDPs). Stilbenes have been identified by UPLC-DAD-TQD and quantified by HPLC-DAD, and cluster analyses have been performed to classify subspecies by their stilbene profile. After UV-C treatment, the Syrah variety reached a maximum of 25 mg kg? 1 f.w. of total stilbenes in the 2008 vintage, and in the statistical analysis, this variety stood out from the other Vitis varieties tested. In 2008, varieties belonging to the sylvestris group and Vitis vinifera sativa Merlot also presented high stilbene production; however, the expected concentration in the HDPs was not obtained.Industrial relevanceIn this study, postharvest UV-C treatment has been applied to obtain stilbene-enriched grapes from several subspecies of Vitis. The most suitable raw material for bioactive stilbene-enriched products, such as nutraceutics and wines, has been established. This is an essential prerequisite to scaling up the process. Such stilbene-enriched products are known to have added-value as a result of the confirmed positive bioactivity of these compounds, and are gaining market acceptance.  相似文献

IgE‐mediated allergy to milk and egg is widespread in industrialised countries and mainly affects infants and young children. It may be connected to an incomplete digestion of dietary proteins causing an inappropriate immune response in the gut. In order to study this, a biochemical model of infant gastroduodenal digestion has been developed, which has reduced levels of protease (eightfold for pepsin and tenfold for trypsin and chymotrypsin), phosphatidylcholine and bile salts, compared with the adult model. This model has been used to study the behaviour of three characterised food‐relevant proteins (bovine β‐lactoglobulin (β‐Lg), β‐casein (β‐CN) and hen's egg ovalbumin), all of which are relevant cows' milk and hens' egg allergens. Digestion products were characterised using electrophoresis, immunochemical techniques and MS. These showed that ovalbumin and β‐CN were digested more slowly using the infant model compared with the adult conditions. Resistant fragments of β‐CN were found in the infant model, which correspond to previously identified IgE epitopes. Surprisingly, β‐Lg was more extensively degraded in the infant model compared with the adult one. This difference was attributed to the tenfold reduction in phosphatidylcholine concentration in the infant model limiting the protective effect of this phospholipid on β‐Lg digestion.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine whether processing could modify the resistance of casein (CN) to digestion in infants. A range of different dairy matrices was manufactured from raw milk in a pilot plant and subjected to in vitro digestion using an infant gut model. Digestion products were identified using MS and immunochemical techniques. Results obtained showed that CNs were able to resist digestion, particularly κ‐ and αs2‐CN. Resistant areas were identified and corresponded to fragments hydrophobic at pH 3.0 (gastric conditions) and/or carrying post‐translational modifications (phosphorylation and glycosylation). Milk processing led to differences in peptide patterns and heat treatment of milk tended to increase the number of peptides found in digested samples. This highlights the likely impact of milk processing on the allergenic potential of CNs.  相似文献

Antimicrobial activity of fractions obtained from Mexican oregano (Lippia berlandieri Schauer) chloroform extract was tested by growth inhibition against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus, and antioxidant capacity was tested by inhibition of linoleic acid oxidation. Fractions were obtained by differences in polarity or structure (phenolic and non-phenolic fraction). Gram-positive organisms were more susceptible to Mexican oregano extracts. Fraction 3 (by polarity) and phenolic fractions I, II, III, IV and V were the extracts with higher antimicrobial activity. The non-phenolic fraction had effect against B. cereus. Polarity fraction 5 and phenolic Fraction II had a high antioxidant capacity; a 0.08% concentration of fraction 5 had a similar effect as butylated hydroxytoluene at 0.01% concentration. Fractions of Mexican oregano with different polarity and functional groups had antioxidant and antimicrobial activity and can be used in a variety of applications.  相似文献

Fast and reliable identification of the microorganisms causing mastitis is important for management of the disease and for targeting antimicrobial treatment. Methods based on PCR are being used increasingly in mastitis diagnostics. Comprehensive field comparisons of PCR and traditional milk bacteriology have not been available. The results of a PCR kit capable of detecting 11 important etiological agents of mastitis directly from milk in 4h were compared with those of conventional bacterial culture (48h). In total, 1,000 quarter milk samples were taken from cows with clinical or subclinical mastitis, or from clinically healthy quarters with low somatic cell count (SCC). Bacterial culture identified udder pathogens in 600/780 (77%) of the clinical samples, whereas PCR identified bacteria in 691/780 (89%) of the clinical samples. The PCR analysis detected major pathogens in a large number of clinical samples that were negative for the species in culture. These included 53 samples positive for Staphylococcus aureus by PCR, but negative by culture. A total of 137 samples from clinical mastitis, 5 samples from subclinical mastitis, and 1 sample from a healthy quarter were positive for 3 or more bacterial species in PCR, whereas culture identified 3 or more species in 60 samples from clinical mastitis. Culture identified a species not targeted by the PCR test in 44 samples from clinical mastitis and in 9 samples from subclinical mastitis. Low SCC samples provided a small number of positive results both in culture (4/93; 4.3%) and by PCR (7/93; 7.5%). In conclusion, the PCR kit provided several benefits over conventional culture, including speed, automated interpretation of results, and increased sensitivity. This kit holds much promise as a tool to complement traditional methods in identification of pathogens. In conventional mastitis bacteriology, a sample with 3 or more species is considered contaminated, and resampling of the cow is recommended. Further study is required to investigate how high sensitivity of PCR and its quantitative features can be applied to improve separation of relevant udder pathogens from likely contaminants in samples where multiple species are detected. Furthermore, increasing the number of species targeted by the PCR test would be advantageous.  相似文献

In this study, Acrylic acid (AA)/2‐acrylamido‐2‐methlypropane sulfonic acid (AMPS) hydrogels were prepared by free radical polymerization in aqueous solutions of AA, AMPS, and N,N‐methylenebisacrylamide (NMBA) as crosslinker. Potassium persulfate (PPS)/potassium bisulfide (PBS) were used as initiator and accelerator pair. The water absorption capacities and dye adsorption properties of the hydrogels were investigated. Adsorption properties of the hydrogels were evaluated by depending on different adsorption conditions such as different initial dye concentration and contact time. The concentrations of the dyes were determined using UV/Vis Spectrophotometer at wavelength 530 nm for safranine T (ST) and 622 nm for brilliant cresyl blue (BCB). Adsorption kinetic studies showed that pseudo‐first order kinetic model is suitable to explain the adsorption kinetic data of the hydrogels. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were used to describe adsorption data. The result revealed that the adsorption of basic dyes onto hydrogels fit very well both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

This study was carried out with the purpose of testing the bond strength of different bonding agents bonded to different substrates.Substrates consisted of cylindrical specimens of three different materials: porcelain, metal, and a porcelain–metal combination. Specimens were all 10 mm in diameter and 4 mm thick. Surfaces to be bonded were air-abraded with Al2O3 and cleaned ultrasonically in distilled water for 10 min. After the preparation of the surface was complete, three different bonding agents were applied to the central region of the substrates. Composite resin of a 3.5 mm diameter and 2 mm thick was applied. All specimens were thermocycled between 5 and 55 °C for 200 cycles with a 30-s dwell time. After thermocycling, specimens were stored at 37 °C in distilled water for an additional 7 days before being subjected to a shear load. Shear testing was conducted Hounsfield test machine.The univariate analysis of variance and the Duncan multiple comparison test were used for statistical assessment. It was found that both type of bonding agents and of substrate led to statistically significant differences in bond strength (p<0.01).It was found that the highest bond strength was produced by Clearfil and on pure alloy substrate (33.36 MPa) and the lowest bond strength in Single Bond and porcelain–alloy substrate (4.25 MPa).  相似文献

Lead pollution history over Northern Poland was reconstructed for the last ca. 1300 years using the elemental and Pb isotope geochemistry of a dated Polish peat bog. The data show that Polish Pb-Zn ores and coal were the main sources of Pb, other heavy metals and S over Northern Poland up until the industrial revolution. After review of the potential mobility of each element, most of the historical interpretation was based on Pb and Pb isotopes, the other chemical elements (Zn, Cu, Ni, S) being considered secondary indicators of pollution. During the last century, leaded gasoline also contributed to anthropogenic Pb pollution over Poland. Coal and Pb-Zn ores, however, remained important sources of pollution in Eastern European countries during the last 50 years, as demonstrated by a high 206Pb/207Pb ratio (1.153) relative to that of Western Europe (ca. 1.10). The Pb data for the last century were also in good agreement with modelled Pb inventories over Poland and the Baltic region.  相似文献

In this study, an urban roughness mapping method is presented on the example of a large study area in Szeged, Hungary, as an example. With this roughness mapping procedure, the potential ventilation paths of the city can be located. Our calculations of the roughness parameters are based on a 3D building database; however, this new approach using the lot area polygons provides more detailed results than other recent studies. The detected ventilation paths could play a significant role in the development of the urban heat island circulation and result in the reduction of air pollution in the central parts of the city. Based on our results, we can mark out the areas where the city government should keep the advantages of the ventilation paths considering the human comfort aspects of the urban climate, thus providing important input data for urban planning procedures.  相似文献
