Surface modification of clay minerals has become increasingly important for improving the practical applications of clays such as fillers and adsorbents. An investigation was carried out on the surface modification of sepiolite with aminopropylsilyl groups in 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (3-APT). The zeta potential of the modified sepiolite suspensions was measured as a function of initial electrolyte concentration and equilibrium pH using a Zeta Meter 3.0 for modified sepiolite. The utility of the 3-APT-modified sepiolite was investigated as an adsorbent for removal of various heavy metal ions such as Fe, Mn, Co, Zn, Cu, Cd and Ni from aqueous solutions. The effects of various factors on the adsorption, such as pH, ionic strength and temperature of the solution were studied. The results showed that the amount adsorbed increases with solution pH in the pH range of 1.5 and 7.0; indicated that the modified sepiolite adsorbed Fe and Mn ions more than other metal ions such as Co, Zn, Cu, Cd and Ni. It was found that the temperature had an important effect on metal ion adsorption by the modified sepiolite. BACKGROUND: This study investigated changes in peroxidase (POX) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities through adventitious rooting in hardwood cuttings of grapevine rootstocks. Three grapevine rootstocks with different propensity to produce adventitious roots were selected: recalcitrant (Ramsey), non‐recalcitrant (Rupestris du Lot) and intermediate (99R) cultivars. RESULTS: The averages of root number at 65 days were 96 in Lot, 76 in 99R and 30 in Ramsey. Both enzyme activities characteristically increased before adventitious rooting, regardless of rooting ability of the rootstocks, and then decreased. POX activity increased in Ramsey cuttings at 22 days, in Lot and 99R cuttings at 14 days after planting, and then decreased gradually until 51 days. The highest POX activity was determined in Ramsey rootstock with the highest rooting ability and the lowest activity was determined in the rootstocks with the lowest rooting ability. PPO activity gradually increased in Ramsey rootstock cuttings from 10 days to 22 days, in Lot and 99R cuttings at 14 days, and then decreased until 51 days. A significant correlation was identified between high POX activity and adventitious rooting capability in rootstocks, but the same result was not determined with PPO activity. CONCLUSION: A recalcitrant rooting variety cannot increase POX activity sufficiently before rooting. Therefore applications that could increase POX activity in stem cuttings during rooting may facilitate increased rooting in such rootstocks. Copyright © 2011 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

Synthesis of atomically thin MoS2 layers and its derivatives with large‐area uniformity is an essential step to exploit the advanced properties of MoS2 for their possible applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices. In this work, a facile method is reported for the continuous synthesis of atomically thin MoS2 layers at wafer scale through thermolysis of a spin coated‐ammonium tetrathiomolybdate film. The thickness and surface morphology of the sheets are characterized by atomic force microscopy. The optical properties are studied by UV–Visible absorption, Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopies. The compositional analysis of the layers is done by X‐ray photoemission spectroscopy. The atomic structure and morphology of the grains in the polycrystalline MoS2 atomic layers are examined by high‐angle annular dark‐field scanning transmission electron microscopy. The electron mobilities of the sheets are evaluated using back‐gate field‐effect transistor configuration. The results indicate that this facile method is a promising approach to synthesize MoS2 thin films at the wafer scale and can also be applied to synthesis of WS2 and hybrid MoS2‐WS2 thin layers. 相似文献

There has been little research on assessment of learning management systems (LMS) within educational organizations as both a web-based learning system for e-learning and as a supportive tool for blended learning environments. This study proposes a conceptual e-learning assessment model, hexagonal e-learning assessment model (HELAM) suggesting a multi-dimensional approach for LMS evaluation via six dimensions: (1) system quality, (2) service quality, (3) content quality, (4) learner perspective, (5) instructor attitudes, and (6) supportive issues. A survey instrument based on HELAM has been developed and applied to 84 learners. This sample consists of students at both undergraduate and graduate levels who are users of a web-based learning management system, U-Link, at Brunel University, UK. The survey instrument has been tested for content validity, reliability, and criterion-based predictive validity. The analytical results strongly support the appropriateness of the proposed model in evaluating LMSs through learners’ satisfaction. The explanatory factor analysis showed that each of the six dimensions of the proposed model had a significant effect on the learners’ perceived satisfaction. Findings of this research will be valuable for both academics and practitioners of e-learning systems. 相似文献
