Accuracy of interviewers, certified public accountants, and students in identifying the interests of accountants.

Developed a 57-item modified forced-choice stereotype accuracy test to determine how well 14 interviewers, 23 Certified Public Accountants (CPA) who interview, and 20 male undergraduates could identify the interests of accountants. There were no differences in accuracy between the groups, but factor analysis revealed 2 clusters, 1 of CPAs and the other containing mostly interviewers and students, which have different perceptions of accountant's interests. If selection depends on the goodness of fit to a stereotype, then members of the 2 clusters would select different applicants for the position of accountant. Shock intensity and the Kamin effect in one- and two-way avoidance.

Describes 2 experiments with 144 and 162 male hooded rats. Response decrements as a function of the intersession interval occurred in both 1- and 2-way active avoidance conditioning. Percentage avoidances were a positive function of shock intensity in 1-way avoidance and a negative function of intensity in 2-way avoidance. The magnitude of the performance decrement was a function of shock intensity in 1-way avoidance, with the largest decrement at the lowest shock intensity. The magnitude of the performance decrement was unaffected by shock intensity in 2-way avoidance. The shape of the intersession-interval function was apparently unaffected by shock intensity in both types of active avoidance. (French summary) (15 ref.) Work values and job satisfaction.

114 student airmen and 306 noncommissioned officers completed measures of job satisfaction and work values. Consistent relationships appeared between these 2 sets of variables. Evidence indicates that the job satisfaction variance controlled by work values is independent of that controlled by other variables. Analysis of Frequency Selective Surfaces at Millimeter Wave Band Using the Hertz Vector Potential Method

In this work, the Hertz vector potential method was used to obtain the dyadic Green’s function components for frequency selective surfaces (FSS) on an anisotropic layer. The considered structures are composed by periodic arrays of conducting crossed dipole and rectangular patch elements. Results of reflected power were obtained by using the moment method. Curves for the reflected power versus frequency are presented as function of the structural parameters, assuming x, y, and z orientation for the optical axis in the anisotropic substrate.     

Electron ionization in superimposed magnetic and radio frequency quadrupolar electric fields

An improved design of a novel electron ionization source for orthogonal acceleration time-of-flight mass spectrometry is described, based on the superimposition of an axial magnetic field with cylindrical symmetry around a radio frequency-only quadrupole. A tubular permanent magnet was designed to generate the required strong magnetic field and field profile. An axial electric field along the ion guide for efficient ion extraction was introduced using segmented quadrupole rods. Details of the source design and the effects of various operating parameters are described. The source produces high-quality mass spectra with regard to fragmentation, relative abundances, and isotopic ratios. Preliminary results have shown excellent sensitivity, with limits of detection in the subfemtogram range (octafluoronaphthalene, full spectrum acquisition) in gas chromatography/mass spectrometry operation.     

Influence of obstetric medication on auditory habituation in the newborn.

Examined auditory habituation in 24 newborns, using E. Conway and Y. Brackbill's (1970) procedure, with the addition of a test for dishabituation, and state observations. Significant response decrement was observed in all infants; a majority responded to the dishabituation stimuli. Rate of habituation varied with number of state changes, intensity of stimulation required to initially elicit a response, and, for infants initially responsive to an 80-db signal, level of obstetric medication (analgesics and anesthetics). Volunteering as a function of field structure.

It was predicted that significantly more volunteering would occur when test Ss observed the invitation (to participate in an experiment) being accepted prior to their being asked than would occur in the control condition (where S had no opportunity to observe the behavior of others in the invitation situation); and significantly less when refusal was observed, as compared with the control condition. A-B status of behavior therapy technicians as related to success of Mowrer's conditioning treatment for enuresis.

Evaluated the relationship of therapy technician A-B status and the outcomes of a specific behavior treatment: O. H. Mowrer's conditioning paradigm for the treatment of enuresis. 36 5-16 yr old enuretic children were treated by their mothers who served as behavior technicians following a 1-hr consultation-training session. Results support the hypothesis that B-status technicians would be associated with higher successful outcomes than A-status technicians. Implications for clarifying existing behavior therapy and A-B literature are discussed, together with suggestions for future research. (26 ref.)
