Traumatic brain injury (TBI) causes neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration, both of which increase the risk and accelerate the progression of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The gut microbiome is an essential modulator of the immune system, impacting the brain. AD has been related with reduced diversity and alterations in the community composition of the gut microbiota. This study aimed to determine whether the gut microbiota from AD mice exacerbates neurological deficits after TBI in control mice. We prepared fecal microbiota transplants from 18 to 24 month old 3×Tg-AD (FMT-AD) and from healthy control (FMT-young) mice. FMTs were administered orally to young control C57BL/6 (wild-type, WT) mice after they underwent controlled cortical impact (CCI) injury, as a model of TBI. Then, we characterized the microbiota composition of the fecal samples by full-length 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis. We collected the blood, brain, and gut tissues for protein and immunohistochemical analysis. Our results showed that FMT-AD administration stimulates a higher relative abundance of the genus Muribaculum and a decrease in Lactobacillus johnsonii compared to FMT-young in WT mice. Furthermore, WT mice exhibited larger lesion, increased activated microglia/macrophages, and reduced motor recovery after FMT-AD compared to FMT-young one day after TBI. In summary, we observed gut microbiota from AD mice to have a detrimental effect and aggravate the neuroinflammatory response and neurological outcomes after TBI in young WT mice. 相似文献

The complex interfacial correlations provide new routes toward tunable functionalities. Here, the wide range of tunabilities for magnetic properties are presented, including Curie temperature (from 245 to 320 K), coercive field (from 2 to 205 Oe), and saturated magnetic moment (from 0.9 to 2.8 µB Mn?1), in a 9‐unit‐cell La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 (LSMO) layer via modifying interfacial boundary conditions. Moreover, the LSMO/PbTiO3‐based multilayers and superlattices that consist of PbTiO3/LSMO/NdGaO3 and PbTiO3/LSMO/PbTiO3 interfaces are characterized by two distinct Curie temperatures and coercive fields. The results reveal the feasibility of the interface‐resolved strategy based on boundary modification in fabricating potential devices with multiple accessible states for information storage. The wide‐range modulations on magnetic properties at LSMO/titanate interfaces are explained in terms of binary controls arising from the oxygen octahedral coupling (OOC) and magnetoelectric coupling (MEC). The International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS) identifies production test data as an essential element in improving design and technology in the manufacturing process feedback loop. One of the observations made from the high-volume production test data is that dies that fail due to a systematic failure have a tendency to form certain unique patterns that manifest as defect clusters at the wafer level. Identifying and categorising such clusters is a crucial step towards manufacturing yield improvement and implementation of real-time statistical process control. The authors propose that the content of certain sociopolitical ideologies can be shaped by individuals in ways that satisfy their social motivations. This notion was tested in the context of color-blind ideology. Color blindness, when construed as a principle of distributive justice, is an egalitarian stance concerned with reducing discrepancies between groups' outcomes; as a principle of procedural justice, however, color blindness can function as a legitimizing ideology that entrenches existing inequalities. In Study 1, White people high in antiegalitarian sentiment were found to shift their construal of color blindness from a distributive to a procedural principle when exposed to intergroup threat. In Studies 2, 3A, and 3B, the authors used manipulations and a measure of threat to show that antiegalitarian White people endorse color blindness to legitimize the racial status quo. In Study 3B, participants' endorsement of color-blind ideology was mediated by increases in their preference for equal treatment (i.e., procedural justice) as a response to threat. Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) is known to induce important immunologic changes within the tumor microenvironment (TME). However, little is known regarding the early immune responses within the TME in the first few weeks following SBRT. Therefore, we used the canine spontaneous tumor model to investigate TME responses to SBRT, and how local injection of immune modulatory antibodies to OX40 and TLR 3/9 agonists might modify those responses. Pet dogs with spontaneous cancers (melanoma, carcinoma, sarcoma, n = 6 per group) were randomized to treatment with either SBRT or SBRT combined with local immunotherapy. Serial tumor biopsies and serum samples were analyzed for immunologic responses. SBRT alone resulted at two weeks after treatment in increased tumor densities of CD3+ T cells, FoxP3+ Tregs, and CD204+ macrophages, and increased expression of genes associated with immunosuppression. The addition of OX40/TLR3/9 immunotherapy to SBRT resulted in local depletion of Tregs and tumor macrophages and reduced Treg-associated gene expression (FoxP3), suppressed macrophage-associated gene expression (IL-8), and suppressed exhausted T cell-associated gene expression (CTLA4). Increased concentrations of IL-7, IL-15, and IL-18 were observed in serum of animals treated with SBRT and immunotherapy, compared to animals treated with SBRT. A paradoxical decrease in the density of effector CD3+ T cells was observed in tumor tissues that received combined SBRT and immunotherapy as compared to animals treated with SBRT only. In summary, these results obtained in a spontaneous large animal cancer model indicate that addition of OX40/TLR immunotherapy to SBRT modifies important immunological effects both locally and systemically. 相似文献

A novel photovoltaic/thermal solar-assisted heat pump (PV/T-SAHP) system is described in this paper. A specially designed direct-expansion evaporator (PV evaporator), which is laminated with PV cells on the front surface of the thermal absorber, has been adopted in our system to acquire simultaneously thermal energy and electricity from solar radiation. A dynamic model of the PV evaporator based on the distributed parameter approach is also presented. Given the instantaneous solar irradiance and ambient temperature, the numerical model is able to output the spatial distributions of refrigerant conditions, including pressure, temperature, vapor quality and enthalpy. A two-dimensional temperature distribution of the evaporator body is also computed. Comparisons between the simulation results and the experimental measurements show that the model is able to give satisfactory predictions. The results show that high electrical and thermal performance can be achieved. The PV efficiency and thermal efficiency are above 12% and 50% during the testing period. 相似文献

The liquefaction behaviour of a Kentucky coal was studied in batch autoclave experiments at 410 °C under either a H2 or a N2 atmosphere (≈ 13.8 MPa) for reaction times of up to 2 h. To understand the catalytic roles of FeSO4 and a Co&z.sbnd;Mo catalyst in coal liquefaction and to assess the feasibility of using FeSO4 as a model for coal pyrites, effects of impregnation of the coal with FeSO4 and direct charges of a Co&z.sbnd;Mo catalyst on coal liquefaction and tetralin dehydrogenation were examined. Both catalysts increase the conversion to benzene-soluble material by 7–10%, and improve the selectivity values for conversion to oil and gas. In addition they are also active in the dehydrogenation of tetralin. The dehydrogenation activities of these catalysts correlate with their catalytic activities during coal liquefaction. Analyses of the mean chemical structures and the product distributions of the coal-derived liquid from liquefaction in H2 and in N2 atmospheres indicate that:
- 1. (1) H-transfer from tetralin is the only major mechanism of coal liquefaction; and
- 2. (2) both pyrrhotite, generated in-situ from FeSO4, and Co&z.sbnd; Mo catalyst can provide a major liquefaction mechanism by catalysing the H-transfer from the donor solvent to the coal or the coal-derived liquid.

A building-integrated photovoltaic/water-heating (BiPVW) system is able to generate higher energy output per unit collector area than the conventional solar systems. Through computer simulation with energy models developed for this integrative solar system in Hong Kong, the results showed that the photovoltaic/water-heating (PVW) system is having much economical advantages over the conventional photovoltaic (PV) installation. The system thermal performance under natural water circulation was found better than the pump-circulation mode. For a specific BiPVW system at a vertical wall of a fully air-conditioned building and with collectors equipped with flat-box-type thermal absorber and polycrystalline silicon cells, the year-round thermal and cell conversion efficiencies were found respectively 37.5% and 9.39% under typical Hong Kong weather conditions. The overall heat transmission through the PVW wall is reduced to 38% of the normal building facade. When serving as a water pre-heating system, the economical payback period was estimated around 14 years. This greatly enhances the PV market opportunities. 相似文献

The analysis presented provides a quantitative method for predicting semiconductor laser amplifier performance in the presence of ASE (amplified spontaneous emission). It indicates that in order to increase the fraction of pump power that contributes to the amplification of the input laser field relative to that spent in overcoming internal losses, an amplifier should operate at as high an excitation level as possible. This may mean operating an amplifier above its free-running oscillation threshold. A limitation to the maximum pump power is the increase in ASE. With too high an excitation, ASE dominates over the amplified input laser field, resulting in a quenching of the amplifier gain, efficiency and coherence. ASE effects may be mitigated by increasing the input laser intensity, decreasing the amplifier facet reflectivities, or, in some cases, tuning the master oscillator so that it is resonant with the amplifier. The analysis indicates that minimizing the facet reflectivity is the most effective way to circumvent ASE limitations to power scaling semiconductor laser amplifiers 相似文献
