Stress‐relaxation behavior of glass fiber‐reinforced polyester composites, prepared by a recently developed manufacturing method called rubber pressure molding (RPM), is investigated with special reference to the effect of environmental temperature (−70°C to +100°C), fiber volume fraction (30–60%), and initial load level (1–5 kN). It is found that the stress‐relaxation rate decreases with an increase in the applied load of composites and a decrease in temperature. Below glass transition temperature, the rate of stress relaxation increases with an increase in volume fraction of fibers in the composites, whereas above glass transition temperature, it increases with a decrease in the volume fraction of fibers. The experimental results for a given composites are summarized by four values, the slopes of the two straight lines (two separate relaxation processes), and their intercepts upon the stress axis. Both the slopes are dependent upon the applied load, temperature, and volume fraction of fibers in the composites. Relaxation times in both primary and secondary are calculated over the wide range of temperatures, loads, and volume fraction of fibers in the composites. It depends strongly on the temperature, but does not depend strongly on the applied load and volume fraction of fibers. The performances of the composites are also evaluated through conventional compression‐molding process. The rate of stress relaxation is small when the composites are made of newly proposed RPM technique when compared with the conventional process. POLYM. A laboratory incubation experiment was conducted with uranium-contaminated subsurface sediment to assess the geochemical and microbial community response to ethanol amendment. A classical sequence of terminal electron-accepting processes (TEAPs) was observed in ethanol-amended slurries, with NO3- reduction, Fe(III) reduction, SO4(2-) reduction, and CH4 production proceeding in sequence until all of the added 13C-ethanol (9 mM) was consumed. Approximately 60% of the U(VI) content of the sediment was reduced during the period of Fe(III) reduction. No additional U(VI) reduction took place during the sulfate-reducing and methanogenic phases of the experiment Only gradual reduction of NO3-, and no reduction of U(VI), took place in ethanol-free slurries. Stimulation of additional Fe(III) or SO4(2-) reduction in the ethanol-amended slurries failed to promote further U(VI) reduction. Reverse transcribed 16S rRNA clone libraries revealed major increases in the abundance of organisms related to Dechloromonas, Geobacter, and Herbaspirillum in the ethanol-amended slurries. Phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs) indicative of Geobacter showed a distinct increase in the amended slurries, and analysis of PLFA 13C/12C ratios confirmed the incorporation of ethanol into these PLFAs. A increase in the abundance of 13C-labeled PLFAs indicative of Desulfobacter, Desulfotomaculum, and Desulfovibrio took place during the brief period of sulfate reduction that followed the Fe(III) reduction phase. Our results show that major redox processes in ethanol-amended sediments can be reliably interpreted in terms of standard conceptual models of TEAPs in sediments. However, the redox speciation of uranium is complex and cannot be explained based on simplified thermodynamic considerations.  相似文献

In enhanced oil recovery applications, surfactants are injected into reservoirs along with polymers and salts. The effluents eluted from lab experiments and field tests are analyzed by HPLC methods using an evaporative light scattering detector (ELSD) detector. When the surfactant concentrations are less than 100 ppm, HPLC methods are inaccurate. A novel two-phase titration method is developed where surfactant concentrations can be quantified using a calibration curve constructed with UV/vis absorption. This method can analyze surfactant concentrations 5–80 ppm where dilution eliminates any high-salinity interferences with the absorption measurements. The method is based on formation of a dye-surfactant complex and the light absorption of the complex has a linear correlation with the surfactant concentration. Anionic surfactant concentrations lower than 100 ppm can be accurately quantified using this method with methylene blue. The method was also developed for low concentrations (<50 ppm) of cationic surfactants using methyl orange and indigo carmine. The indigo carmine method can be used without the use of an organic phase. All methods are applicable at salinities up to 3 wt%. Both the methylene blue method and the methyl orange method can be used to detect zwitterionic surfactants. These methods can be used in the presence of polymers without any prior treatments.  相似文献

Gut microbiomes may have a significant impact on mood and cognition, which is leading experts towards a new frontier in neuroscience. Studies have shown that increase in the amount of good bacteria in the gut can curb inflammation and cortisol level, reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety, lowers stress reactivity, improves memory and even lessens neuroticism and social anxiety. This shows that, probably the beneficial gut bacteria or probiotics function mechanistically as delivery vehicles for neuroactive compounds. Thus, a psychobiotic is a live organism, when ingested in adequate amounts, produces a health benefit in patients suffering from psychiatric illness. Study of these novel class of probiotics may open up the possibility of rearrangement of intestinal microbiota for effective management of various psychiatric disorders.  相似文献

The silane treatment on properties of fly ash (FA) and development of its composite using recycled poly(vinyl chloride) (r-PVC) material retrieve from waste wires and cable insulation are investigated in this work. The use of (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane was employed as a coupling agent with some other essential additives. The composites sheet was prepared by means of the melt mixing process and go along with the compression molding process. The superior properties on compatibility between silane-modified FA (FA(Si)) and r-PVC were successfully studied using rheological, thermomechanical, morphological, and water absorption analysis. Primary analysis of r-PVC and FA was employed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis. The thermal stability of composites was stable up to 187°C. In addition, significant enhancement on tensile strength as well as young's modulus of composite as compared to untreated r-PVC/FA composites. Morphological properties of silane treated FA based composites presented the good distribution and excellent uniformity with higher wettability of FA particles within r-PVC matrix. The water absorption test showed decrease in water absorption with increase silane treatment concentration FA in the r-PVC matrix. It was remarkable to note that silane treated FA can be prepared as a composite using r-PVC matrix with further modified properties.  相似文献

In this paper, the existence of both compressive stress and charge transfer process in hydrothermally synthesized cobalt ferrite–graphene oxide (CoFe2O4/GO) nanocomposites has been established. Transmission electron microscopy results reveal the decoration of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles on GO sheets. Magnetic response of nanocomposites was confirmed from superconducting quantum interference device magnetometer measurement. Optical properties of these nanocomposites were investigated by Raman spectroscopy. The interfacial compressive stress involved in this system has been evaluated from observed blue shift of characteristic G peak of graphene oxide. Increase in the full-width half-maximum value as well as upshift in D and G peaks is clear indications of involvement of charge transfer process between GO sheets and dispersed magnetic nanoparticles. The effect of charge transfer process is quantified in terms of shifting of Fermi energy level of these nanocomposites. This is evaluated from variation in contact surface potential difference using scanning Kelvin probe microscopy. XRD spectra of CoFe2O4/GO confirm the polycrystalline nature of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles. Lattice strain estimated from XRD peaks is correlated with the observed Raman shift.  相似文献

The occurrence of life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) such as Ventricular tachycardia (VT) and Ventricular fibrillation (VF) leads to sudden cardiac death which requires detection at an early stage. The main aim of this work is to develop an automated system using machine learning tool for accurate prediction of VAs that may reduce the mortality rate. In this paper, a novel method using variational mode decomposition (VMD) based features and C4.5 classifier for detection of ventricular arrhythmias is presented. The VMD model was used to decompose the electrocardiography (ECG) signals to extract useful informative features. The method was tested for ECG signals obtained from PhysioNet database. Two standard databases i.e. CUDB (Creighton University Ventricular Tachyarrhythmia Database) and VFDB (MIT-BIH Malignant Ventricular Ectopy Database) were considered for this work. A set of time–frequency features were extracted and ranked by the gain ratio attribute evaluation method. The ranked features are subjected to support vector machine (SVM) and C4.5 classifier for classification of normal, VT and VF classes. The best detection was obtained with sensitivity of 97.97%, specificity of 99.15%, and accuracy of 99.18% for C4.5 classifier with a 5 s data analysis window. These results were better than SVM classifier result having an average accuracy of 86.87%. Hence, the proposed method demonstrates the efficiency in detecting the life-threatening VAs and can serve as an assistive tool to clinicians in the diagnosis process.
