We report the scanning near-field optical microscopy (SNOM) characterization of a 4 x 4 multimode interference (MMI) device working at a wavelength of 1.55 microm and designed for astronomical signal recombination. A comprehensive analysis of the mapped propagating field is presented. We compare SNOM measurements with beam-propagation-method simulations and thus are able to determine the MMI structure's refractive-index contrast and show that the measured value is higher than the expected value. Further investigation allows us to demonstrate that good care must be taken with the refractive-index profile used in simulation when one deals with low-index contrast structures. We show evidence that a step-index contrast is not suitable for adequate simulation of our structure and present a model that permits good agreement between measured and simulated propagating fields.  相似文献

Cucullanus faliexae n. sp. is described from the moray eel Gymnothorax javanicus (Muraenidae) collected in Rangiroa (Tuamotu Islands, French Polynesia) in the South Pacific and is reported from the same host collected in Moorea (Society Islands, French Polynesia). This nematode is distinguished from its congeners by its protrubant anus and the presence of a single pair of subdorsal postanal papillae. Cucullanus faliexae resembles C. laurotravassosi from which it is distinguished by the farther anterior position of the first pair of male caudal preanal papillae and by the greater size of its spicules. Cucullanus bourdini Petter and Le Bel, 1992 is reported from the coral reef fishes Balistapus undulatus (Balistidae), Lutjanus gibbus (Lutjanidae), and Myripristis kuntee (Holocentridae) from French Polynesia. Additionally, Cucullanus sp. is reported from the coral reef fish Sufflamen bursa (Balistidae) in Moorea and Rangiroa. Given that C. faliexae and C. bourdini have been found in widely disparate locations between which their definitive hosts cannot migrate, it would seem likely that the life cycles of these worms include an intermediate or transport host that has a greater capability for dispersal.  相似文献

Natural latex (NR) particles, modified with a hard shell of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and with a substructure of PMMA (type "NR-M") or polystyrene (type "NR-SM"), were tested as compatibilizers in blends of polycarbonate (of bisphenol A, PC) and PMMA or PS. During melt blending, the modified NR particles were torn apart, from an original size of >0.5 μm down to ≅0.1 μm in diameter. Two different types of particle distribution were observed in the blends: in PC/PMMA/NR-M blends, the NR-M particles were dispersed in the PMMA phase, whereas, in PC/PS/NR-SM blends, the NR-SM particles formed interface layers between PC and PS phase domains. The latter blend morphology, distinguished by continuous rubbery interface layers of NR-SM, turned out to be mechanically excellent in injection-moulded parts. The poor impact strength of PC/PS was raised by an order of magnitude. The effect depends on the orientation in the injection-moulded test bars.  相似文献

This article concerns the functionalization of polypropylene (PP) with oxazoline functionality by melt free radical grafting along with a low degree of degradation of PP in a batch mixer. A low volatile oxazoline, ricinoloxazoline maleinate (OXA), was used as the monomer. The grafting yield of OXA ranged from about 0.5 phr up to 1.5 phr (grams per 100 grams of PP) when its initial concentration and that of the peroxide ranged from 1.5 to 6.0 phr and 0.1 to 0.7 phr, respectively. The corresponding conversion of OXA to grafted OXA ranged from about 15 to 50%. Addition of styrene (St) as the comonomer did not enhance the grafting yield of OXA but markedly reduced the PP degradation. Also, little homo-and/or copolymers of OXA and/or St were found in the grafting system. This agrees with our finding that OXA and St did not copolymerize easily. The potential of using an OXA modified PP (PP-g-OXA) as the compatibilizer precursor in PP/PBT blends was examined as well. The presence of PP-g-OXA reduced the particle size of the dispersed phase (PBT) along with improved cohesion between the PP and PBT phases. This is consistent with a model kinetic study, which showed that the reaction between oxazoline and carboxylic functionalities was very fast. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Different emulsion polymerization processes allowed variation in the microstructure of composite natural rubber (NR)-based latex particles. A prevulcanized and a not-crosslinked natural rubber latex were coated with a shell of crosslinked poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) or polystyrene (PS). The bipolar redox initiating system tert-butyl hydroperoxide/tetraethylene pentamine promoted a core–shell arrangement. Furthermore, PS subinclusions were introduced into the NR core. The initiators used for the subinclusion synthesis were azobisisobutyronitrile at high temperature and a redox initiation system consisting of tert-butyl hydroperoxide/dimethylaniline at low temperature. The morphology of the resulting latex interpenetrating networks (IPN) was characterized by transmission electron micros-copy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Different staining methods allowed us to increase the contrast between the NR phase and the secondary polymers in the composite latex particles. A semicontinuous feeding process decreased the PS subinclusions size by a factor of 6 in comparison with a batch reaction. Depending on the NR/styrene swelling ratio, the crosslinking degree, and the polymerization temperature used, distinct differences of the phase arrangement of polymers in the latex particles were revealed. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Due to the scaling down, the contribution of interconnects should become preponderant for the performance of IC. The use of low-k dielectrics and/or low resistivity metals in order to decrease the parasitic capacitance of interconnect is a technological requirement. Especially the use of copper, with mineral dielectric as IMD, instead of aluminium alloy is now commonly accepted. In this paper we compare the intrinsic performance of two damascene architectures. The planarization by metal CMP, which will determine the final metal thickness, may induce killer defects (shorts between lines) or degraded metal sheet resistance uniformity for multi-level metallization devices. The impact on electromigration of the damascene structure is presented: due to the reverse architecture, the grain sizes and orientations are found to be linewidth dependent. On the other hand, the life times extrapolated with different copper and barrier deposition processes vary on a large range: from similar to those obtained with aluminium for a full CVD metallization (barrier+copper) to more than one order of magnitude higher for a CVD barrier and a mixed CVD+PVD copper deposition.  相似文献

Polyphenols are the most abundant antioxidants in the diet and are widespread constituents of fruits, vegetables, cereals, dry legumes, chocolate, and beverages, such as tea, coffee, or wine. Experimental studies on animals or cultured human cell lines support a role of polyphenols in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, cancers, neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes, or osteoporosis. However, it is very difficult to predict from these results the effects of polyphenol intake on disease prevention in humans. One of the reasons is that these studies have often been conducted at doses or concentrations far beyond those documented in humans. The few clinical studies on biomarkers of oxidative stress, cardiovascular disease risk factors, and tumor or bone resorption biomarkers have often led to contradictory results. Epidemiological studies have repeatedly shown an inverse association between the risk of myocardial infarction and the consumption of tea and wine or the intake level of some particular flavonoids, but no clear associations have been found between cancer risk and polyphenol consumption. More human studies are needed to provide clear evidence of their health protective effects and to better evaluate the risks possibly resulting from too high a polyphenol consumption.  相似文献
