This article presents an approach to delivering qualitative end-to-end quality of service (QoS) guarantees across the multiprovider Internet. We propose that bilateral agreements between a number of autonomous systems (ASs) result in the establishment of QoS-class planes that potentially extend across the global Internet. The deployment of a QoS-enhanced border gateway protocol (BGP) with different QoS-based route selection policies in each of the planes allows a range of interdomain QoS capabilities to coexist on the same network infrastructure. The article presents simulation results showing the benefits of the approach and discusses aspects of the performance of QoS-enhanced BGP  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Lipocortin 1 is a mediator of the antiinflammatory actions of therapeutic glucocorticoids. ENdogenous glucocorticoids modulate inflammatory arthritides including rheumatoid and adjuvant arthritis (AA), but the role of lipocortin 1 in this phenomenon is not known. We studied the effects of endogenous glucocorticoids on adjuvant arthritis and leukocyte lipocortin 1 content. METHODS: Adrenalectomy of sham adrenalectomy was performed 2 days before adjuvant injection in 170 g inbred Sprague-Dawley rats. Peripheral blood was obtained and disease severity assessed by delta paw volume and clinical score 14 days later. Leukocyte subset lipocortin 1 content was determined by double labeling permeabilization flow cytometry using specific monoclonal antibodies. RESULTS: Lipocortin 1 fluorescence was readily detected in control rat peripheral blood cells labeled with OX-1 (pan-leukocyte), OX-19 (CD5), W3/25 (CD4), and OX-8 (CD8). Lipocortin 1 fluorescence was significantly greater in polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) (RP3; p < 0.01). Induction of AA was accompanied by significant increases in lipocortin 1 (p < 0.001) in all subsets. Sham adrenalectomy induced no significant change in AA rat leukocyte lipocortin 1. Adrenalectomy induced significant exacerbation of AA disease severity compared to sham operation (delta paw volume 1.43 +/- 0.1 vs 1.13 +/- 0 ml; p < 0.05). Adrenalectomy was also associated with significant reduction in lipocortin 1 content in all leukocyte subsets except PMN. Leukocyte lipocortin 1 content exhibited significant negative correlation with clinical disease severity (R2 = -0.55; p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Endogenous glucocorticoids modulate leukocyte expression of lipocortin 1 in inflammatory disease, and reduced lipocortin 1 may be involved in the exacerbation of AA by adrenalectomy.  相似文献

Vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR)-optokinetic reflex (OKR) interaction was studied in normal human subjects during active sine-like head movements in the horizontal plane for a variety of vestibular-optokinetic stimulus combinations (frequency range, 0.05-1.6 Hz). At low to mid frequencies (< 0.2 Hz) the eyes tended to be stabilized on the optokinetic pattern, independently of whether the head, the pattern, or both were rotated. At higher frequencies, the OKR gain was attenuated and, in each of the differing stimulus combinations, the eyes became increasingly stabilized in space. Qualitatively similar results were obtained when, for the same visual-vestibular combinations, the head was passively rotated at 0.05 and 0.8 Hz. The data could be simulated by a model which assumes a linear interaction of vestibular and optokinetic signals. It considers the OKR with its negative feedback loop of primordial importance for image stabilization on the retina and the VOR only as a useful addition which compensates for the limited bandwidth of the OKR during high frequency/velocity head rotations in a stationary visual environment.  相似文献

The finite element method is used for the computation of the variational modes of the system composed of an elastic tank partially filled with a compressible liquied. We propose, on the one hand, a direct approcach based on a three field mixed variational formulation, and, on the other hand, a variational modal interaction scheme allowing the use of the acoustic eigenmodes of the liquid in a rigid motionless enclosure and the hydroelastic modes of the enclosure. Glutamine release by the liver constitutes a process of nitrogen salvage through the recycling of a part of the nitrogen, which prevents irreversible nitrogen losses as urea. The aim of this work was to study the nitrogen cycling in the splanchnic bed under different nutritional conditions: fed state, postabsorptive state (16 h food deprivation) or prolonged starvation (24 or 40 h). Rats were adapted to a 15% casein diet for 15 d and then sampled. The digestive, hepatic and splanchnic balances of glucose, lactate, ketone bodies, urea and amino acids were determined. There was a net release of lactate and alanine by the digestive tract, due to the high rate of glycolysis and glutaminolysis. During prolonged starvation, ketone bodies became major energy fuel for the intestine. In fed rats, there was a net uptake of most amino acids by the liver, except for glutamine and glutamate. Urea, glutamine and glutamate released represented 33, 24 and 6% of total nitrogen taken up by the liver, respectively. In postabsorptive rats, compared with fed rats, there was a significant reduction of ureagenesis, and glutamine became the major form of nitrogen released by the liver. In fact, nitrogen cycling in the form of glutamine or glutamate in the liver may be interpreted as a nitrogen salvage process, rather than as an acid-base control process. In the splanchnic area, in parallel with a highly active cycling of glucose as lactate, there exists a nitrogen cycling involving opposite fluxes of glutamine and alanine.  相似文献

Polyacetylenes and their thiophene derivatives, characteristic secondary metabolites of the Asteraceae, were examined for their effects on herbivorous insects. Three thiophenes (a monothiophene, a bithiophene, and -terthienyl) and four polyacetylenes (phenylheptatriyne, phenylheptadiynene, phenylheptadiyene acetate, and matricaria lactone) were studied for their phototoxicity and light-independent toxicity to (1) a polyphagous lepidopteran,Ostrinia nubilalis, whose host range includes a number of phototoxic Asteraceae, (2) a polyphagous lepidoteran,Euxoa messoria, whose host range includes very few species of Asteraceae, and (3) an oligophagous lepidopteran,Manduca sexta, which is a specialist on Solanaceae. Several compounds were phototoxic toM. sexta andE. messoria even at very low irradiance levels, but behavioral adaptations, including spinning silk and boring into diet, allowedO. nubilalis to avoid photosensitization. Light-independent activity of the compounds to all three species involved feeding deterrence increasing in the orderO. nubilalis, E. messoria, andM. sexta, and longterm metabolic toxicity in the form of impaired nutrient utilization. The biosynthetically derived thiophenes were more toxic than their acetylenic precursors, and toxicity increased with increasing number of thiophene rings. The results are discussed in terms of plant-insect coevolution.  相似文献

A technique for the artificial infection of the snail Helix aspersa by its parasite the nematode Nemhelix bakeri is described. The snail is relaxed by injection of an anesthetic, and 1 gravid female worm is introduced into the genitalia through the genital pore. Half of the injected snails were successfully infected. Following the course of infection over time indicated a 1:1 sex ratio, that the maximum number of progeny produced by injected female worms was 7, and that the development time of female worms was 56 days. The first generation of gravid females was found 100 days after infection. A survey of naturally parasitized snails was also conducted. The sex ratio of worms was in equilibrium, with a mean number of 2.4 larvae per female. The development time (56 days) and the body size (2.47-4.00 mm) of female N. bakeri are similar to those of a related species Cosmocercoides dukae (52-57 days and 1.66-4.34 mm), although the life cycle and biogeographic distribution for each of them are distinct.  相似文献

Carboxylic acid haptens were synthesised, for Hesperetin (Hesp) and Naringenin (Nar). They had a spacer arm (4 or 6 carbons long) on the C7 position. Haptens were coupled to bovine serum albumin. Polyclonal antibodies were generated. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) were developed. Owing to sensitivity, one antibody for each flavanone was retained, namely anti-h4-Hesp and anti-h4-Nar. For Hesp and Nar, IC50 of the standard curves were 1.29 pmol/well and 0.72 pmol/well, respectively. Intra-assay and inter-assay variations were 10.24% and 10.53%, respectively for Hesp and 10.03% and 10.79%, respectively for Nar. Anti-h4-Hesp was highly specific when anti-h4-Nar showed cross-reactions with liquiritigenin and eriodictyol, which were significantly reduced in heterologous assay conditions. Assays were validated by comparisons with HPLC Coularray. Measurements were done on diet, plasma and urine samples from mice fed on diets enriched with Hesp or Nar and on a range of diluted mice urine samples.  相似文献

The search for greater speed of analysis has fueled many innovations in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), such as the use of higher pressures and smaller stationary-phase particles, and the development of monolithic columns. Alternatively, one might alter the chromatographic mobile phase. The low viscosity and high diffusivity of the mobile phase in supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) allows higher flow rates and lower pressure drops than is possible in traditional HPLC. In addition, SFC requires less organic, or aqueous-organic, solvent than LC (important in preparative-scale chromatography) and provides an alternative, normal-phase retention mechanism. But fluids that are commonly used as the main mobile-phase component in SFC, such as CO2, are relatively nonpolar. As a result, SFC is commonly believed to only be applicable to nonpolar and relatively low-polarity compounds. Here we build upon recent work with SFC of polar and ionic compounds and peptides, and we compare the LC/MS and SFC/MS of a diverse library of druglike compounds. A total of 75.0% of the library compounds were eluted and detected by SFC/MS, while 79.4% were eluted and detected by LC/MS. Some samples provided strong peaks that appeared to be related to the purported compound contained in the sample. When these were added to the "hits", the numbers rose to 86.7 and 89.9%, respectively. A total of 3.7% of the samples were observed by SFC/MS, but not by LC/MS, and 8.1% of the samples were observed by LC/MS, but not by SFC/MS. The only compound class that appeared to be consistently detected in LC/MS, but not in SFC/MS under our conditions, consisted of compounds containing a phosphate, a phosphonate, or a bisphosphonate. The SFC/MS method was at least as durable, reliable, and user-friendly as the LC/MS method. The APCI source required less cleaning during the SFC/MS separations than it did during LC/MS.  相似文献
