A theoretical and experimental analysis of a mechanical system with dry contact and subject to harmonic excitation is made. The adopted model is a two-degree-of-freedom system representing two sub-structures in dry contacts from their flat ground surfaces. It is theoretically shown that the two sub-structures move in phase with equal amplitudes at a particular frequency of oscillation. This particular frequency is called the frequency of virtual sticking and depends upon the physical properties of the two contacting sub-structures as well as the ratio between the amplitudes of external forces applied on these two structures in the direction of their friction sliding. Zero wear of contact surfaces can thus be established since relative velocity between encountered asperities of sub-structure surfaces becomes zero. It is shown, theoretically and experimentally, that when one of the applied harmonic forces is zero, the frequency of virtual sticking is equal to the natural frequency of the unforced sub-structure. The displacement ratio of the two contacting structures under the effect of harmonic excitation in their sliding direction is investigated within a frequency range up to 400 Hz. The tangential contact stiffness and the dynamic contact rigidity are theoretically determined and experimentally predicted from the measured forced displacement ratio. 相似文献

Groundwater flow and behavior have to be investigated based on heterogeneous subsurface formation since the homogeneity assumption
of this formation is not valid. Over the past twenty years, stochastic approach and Monte Carlo technique have been utilized
very efficiently to understand the groundwater flow behavior. However, these techniques require lots of computational and
numerical efforts according to the various researchers’ comments. Therefore, utilizing new techniques with much less computational
efforts such as Artificial Neural Network (ANN) in the prediction of the stochastic behavior for the groundwater based on
heterogeneous subsurface formation is highly appreciated. The current paper introduces the ANN technique to investigate and
predict the stochastic behavior of a well draw down in a confined aquifer based on subsurface heterogeneous hydraulic conductivity.
Several ANN models are developed in this research to predict the unsteady two dimensional well draw down and its stochastic
characteristics in a confined aquifer. The results of this study showed that ANN method with less computational efforts was
very efficiently capable of simulating and predicting the stochastic behavior of the well draw down resulted from the continuous

Amorphous Al50Ta60 alloy powders have been synthesized by mechanical alloying (MA) from elemental powders of aluminium and tantalum, and mechanical disordering (MD) from crystalline intermetallic compound powders of AlTa respectively using the rod milling technique. The mechanically alloyed and the mechanically disordered alloy powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, electron probe microanalysis, transmission electron microscopy, differential thermal analysis, differential scanning calorimetry and chemical analysis. The results have shown that the crystal-to amorphous transformation in the MD process occurs through one stage, while the crystallineto-amorphous formation in the MA process occurs through three stages. At the early and intermediate stages of the MA time, heating the alloy powders to 700 K leads to the formation of an amorphous phase by a solid-state amorphizing reaction. At the final stage of the MA time, the amorphous phase is crystallized through a single sharp exothermic peak. Contrary to this, amorphous alloy powders produced by MD are crystallized through two broad exothermic peaks. 相似文献

In this paper, a numerical method is proposed for determining complex vibrations modes of sandwich structures with piezoelectric and viscoelastic layers. Based on homotopy and asymptotic numerical techniques, this method leads to the damping properties calculation (loss factor and natural frequency per mode) of the hybrid sandwich structure. Confinement effect of stiffened and unstiffened concrete-filled stainless steel tubular stub columns

This paper presents a comparative study between stiffened and unstiffened concrete-filled stainless steel hollow tubular stub columns using the austenitic stainless steel grade EN 1.4301 (304). Finite element analysis of concrete-filled stainless steel unstiffened tubular stub columns is constructed herein based on the confined concrete model recently available in the literature. It is then compared with the experimental results of concrete-filled stainless steel stiffened tubular stub columns. The stiffened stainless steel tubular sections were fabricated by welding four lipped angles or two lipped channels at the lips. The longitudinal stiffener of the column plate was formed to avoid shrinkage of the concrete and to act as a continuous connector between the concrete core and the stainless steel tube. The behavior of the columns was investigated using two different nominal concrete cubic strengths of 30 and 60 MPa. The overall depth-to-width ratios (aspect ratio) varied from 1.0 to 1.8. The depth-to-plate thickness ratio of the tube sections varied from 60 to 90. The stiffened and unstiffened concrete-filled stainless steel tube specimens were subjected to uniform axial compression over the concrete and stainless steel tube to force the entire section to undergo the same deformations by blocking action. The ABAQUS 6.6 program, as a finite element package, is used in the current work. The results of the comparative study showed that the stainless steel tubes in stiffened concrete-filled columns offered a high average of increase in the confinement of the concrete core than that of the unstiffened concrete-filled columns. 相似文献

This article describes methods for online model-based diagnosis of subsystems of the advanced life support system (ALS). The diagnosis methodology is tailored to detect, isolate, and identify faults in components of the system quickly so that fault-adaptive control techniques can be applied to maintain system operation without interruption. We describe the components of our hybrid modeling scheme and the diagnosis methodology, and then demonstrate the effectiveness of this methodology by building a detailed model of the reverse osmosis (RO) system of the water recovery system (WRS) of the ALS. This model is validated with real data collected from an experimental testbed at NASA JSC. This article presents the design and implementation of a controller scheme for efficient resource management in Advanced Life Support Systems. In the proposed approach, a switching hybrid system model is used to represent the dynamics of the system components and their interactions. The operational specifications for the controller are represented by utility functions, and the corresponding resource management problem is formulated as a safety control problem. The controller is designed as a limited-horizon online supervisory controller that performs a limited forward search on the state-space of the system at each time step, and uses the utility functions to decide on the best action. The feasibility and accuracy of the online algorithm can be assessed at design time. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the scheme by running a set of experiments on the Reverse Osmosis (RO) subsystem of the Water Recovery System (WRS). 相似文献

In spite of the classic approaches of solution of dynamic facility layout problem, which only material handling and rearrangement costs are considered as objective function, these problems are the multi-objective problems. In this paper, a mixed integer linear programming formulation is presented for multi-objective dynamic facility layout problem concerning flexible bay structure. In addition, three current objectives in dynamic facility layout problems including minimizing material handling and rearrangement costs, maximizing adjacency rate, and minimizing shape ratio difference have been considered. Also, for solving this problem, two methods including the GAMS software and proposed parallel variable neighborhood search (PVNS) algorithm are used. So, it is worth mentioning that four test problems are solved by them, and the results show that the proposed PVNS algorithm is more efficient than the GAMS software. 相似文献

In this paper we study combined translational and rotational (general) motion of planar rigid bodies in the presence of dry coulomb friction contact. Despite the cases where the body has pure translational/ rotational motion or can be assumed as a point mass, during the general motion, distinct points of the rigid body move in different directions which cause the friction force vector at each point to be different. Therefore, the direction and the magnitude of the overall friction force cannot be intuitively defined. Here the concept of instantaneous center of rotation is used as an effective method to determine the resultant friction force and moment. The main contribution of this paper is to propose novel stick-slip switching conditions for the general in-plane motion of rigid bodies. Simulation results for some combination of external forces are provided and some experimental tests are designed and conducted for practical verification of the proposed stick-slip conditions. 相似文献

Tunnel design and construction consist of multiple sub-processes among which the selection of proper ventilation system is one of the most important issues. In this problem, several criteria are included in the process; therefore, multi-attribute decision making (MADM) tools should be used for the purpose. One of frequently used MADM methods is fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) in which uncertainty is also taken into account in the decision-making process. In this paper, using fuzzy data envelopment analysis, a new approach is presented for ranking the alternatives in fuzzy AHP. In this approach, the fuzzy nature of data is kept in all steps of the approach. Furthermore, to determine the consistency level of fuzzy pairwise comparison matrix, an appropriate index is used.
