Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) cause nuisance to humans and the environment. Recent legislation encourages industrialists to set up equipment for treating their VOC-loaded gaseous effluents. This piece of research studies the absorption process, using a viscous organic absorbent (di(2-ethylhexyl) adipate=DEHA) to treat a toluene-loaded vent gas, in terms of hydrodynamics and mass transfer. It is shown that DEHA does not lead to an excessive pressure drop. Correlations predicting hydrodynamic parameters from previous literature are summarised and tested against experimental results. It is shown that acceptable prediction accuracy can be achieved for counter-current pressure drop and liquid hold-up. Treatment efficiency for the toluene-loaded vent gas is shown to be very good. Calculation of mass transfer constants (kLa) enables to test literature correlations against the experimental results. The mass transfer is supposed to be limited by the liquid-side resistance. Our experimental results showed that the kLa of the system depends on the liquid velocity but also on the gas velocity. This behaviour has also been observed by the few authors who have used viscous fluids in their experiments, but is contrary to all the authors who have work on low-viscosity fluids. It is therefore clear that the influence of viscosity on the phenomenon is considerable. Not one current correlation is currently accurate in the case of a viscous absorbent.  相似文献

Although impaired skin wound healing in diabetes is a well established phenomenon, virtually nothing is known of its underlying mechanism. We have demonstrated that diabetic skin exhibited a significant deficiency in total mitogenic activity, notably a diminution in FGF1, FGF2 and TGFbeta-like molecules. We postulated that impaired skin healing could be explained by a decreased expression of endogenous growth factors that could be compensated by a platelet releasate (PR) added in situ. Histological studies showed that PR treatment improved tissue repair and restored disturbed healing steps observed in untreated diabetic rat skin although reepithelialization was not altered. Our data demonstrate that PR treatment induces important modulations of the quantity and the kinetic of secretion of endogenous growth factors in the wounds. Although exogenous factors present in PR could no longer be quantified in the wounds after 3 days, our results indicated that factors contained in PR may have: 1) a direct and immediate effect on the growth of neodermal cells, combined to 2) a long term stimulation of endogenous growth factor synthesis in situ during cutaneous wound healing in diabetic rats.  相似文献

Modulo lattice additive noise (MLAN) channels appear in the analysis of structured binning codes for Costa's dirty-paper channel and of nested lattice codes for the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. In this paper, we derive a new lower bound on the error exponents of the MLAN channel. With a proper choice of the shaping lattice and the scaling parameter, the new lower bound coincides with the random-coding lower bound on the error exponents of the AWGN channel at the same signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in the sphere-packing and straight-line regions. This result implies that, at least for rates close to channel capacity, 1) writing on dirty paper is as reliable as writing on clean paper; and 2) lattice encoding and decoding suffer no loss of error exponents relative to the optimal codes (with maximum-likelihood decoding) for the AWGN channel.  相似文献

This paper presents an information-theoretic analysis of statistical dependencies between image wavelet coefficients. The dependencies are measured using mutual information, which has a fundamental relationship to data compression, estimation, and classification performance. Mutual information is computed analytically for several statistical image models, and depends strongly on the choice of wavelet filters. In the absence of an explicit statistical model, a method is studied for reliably estimating mutual information from image data. The validity of the model-based and data-driven approaches is assessed on representative real-world photographic images. Our results are consistent with empirical observations that coding schemes exploiting inter- and intrascale dependencies alone perform very well, whereas taking both into account does not significantly improve coding performance. A similar observation applies to other image processing applications.  相似文献

The propagation mechanisms are analyzed and reveal leaky waves properties. Ovine leptin was cloned in the methylotrophic yeast Pichia pastoris using a pPIC9K vector. Leptin was produced and secreted into the culture medium using the Saccharomyces cerevisiae alpha-mating factor prepro signal by five clones. Expression levels of leptin varied from clone to clone, depending on the copy number of the ob gene. Highest expression was observed with the single-copy clone S27 (250 mg/l). The modifications of culture conditions in batch and fed-batch culture increase the yield of protein. The use of higher cell concentration (63 g/l) before induction of oLept associate with a regulation of pH at 3.2, which decreases the effects of proteolysis, increases the expression level of the oLept to 402 mg/l. Moreover, compared with the non-producer clone, we observed a drastic decrease in growth rate and biomass yield in the leptin-producing clones. At the end of the fed-batch phase at pH 3.2 with clone S27, mortality rate reached 17.3%. Results showed that recombinant leptin production induced metabolic stress, and a negative impact on biomass yield and growth rate. We characterized the recombinant leptin produced by clone S27. It exhibited a molecular mass of 16 kDa, an N-terminal amino acid sequence identical to that of ovine leptin but with an additional tyrosine introduced by the cloning site. Moreover, it was found to be biologically active in vitro. The available production of a large quantity of oLept will strengthen the functional study for theoretical and practical purposes.  相似文献

A process for fabricating ordered organic films on large area is presented. The process allows growing sexithiophene ultra-thin films at precise locations on patterned Si/SiO(x) substrates by driving the orientation of growth. This process combines the parallel local anodic oxidation of Si/SiO(x) substrates with the selective arrangement of molecular ultra-thin film. The former is used to fabricate silicon oxide arrays of parallel lines of 400 nm in width over an area of 1 cm(2). Selective growth arises from the interplay between kinetic growth parameters and preferential interactions with the patterned surface. The result is an ultra-thin film of organic molecules that is conformal to the features of the fabricated motives.  相似文献

This paper develops a joint hashing/watermarking scheme in which a short hash of the host signal is available to a detector. Potential applications include content tracking on public networks and forensic identification. The host data into which the watermark is embedded are selected from a secret subset of the full-frame discrete cosine transform of an image, and the watermark is inserted through multiplicative embedding. The hash is a binary version of selected original image coefficients. We propose a maximum likelihood watermark detector based on a statistical image model. The availability of a hash as side information to the detector modifies the posterior distribution of the marked coefficients. We derive Chernoff bounds on the receiver operating characteristic performance of the detector. We show that host-signal interference can be rejected if the hash function is suitably designed. The relative difficulty of an eavesdropper's detection problem is also determined; the eavesdropper does not know the secret key used. Monte Carlo simulations are performed using photographic test images. Finally, various attacks on the watermarked image are introduced to study the robustness of the derived detectors. The joint hashing/watermarking scheme outperforms the traditional "hashless" watermarking technique.  相似文献

The process of ultrafiltration(UF) of natural seawater often encounters the problems of variation in water quality and coastal blooms. To validate the feasibility of UF in shellfish farms, this study compared the hydraulic performance and pollutant removal efficiency of the UF process with those of the commonly used treatments that combine several filtration steps with ultraviolet(UV) disinfection. The comparison was conducted in the cases of natural seawater and a coastal bloom. Given that the UF process encountered the specific type of pollution, this study evaluated the filtration performance of the UF process and the retention of total suspended solids(TSS), bacteria, phytoplankton, and zooplankton. A real coastal bloom was considered in the case study of an experimental shellfish hatchery/nursery in France. The results show that both treatments were able to eliminate approximately 50% of TSS. However, in contrast with UV treatment combined with filtration, the UF process retained total amounts of phytoplankton, zooplankton, and bacteria in the bloom. Although the hydraulic performance of the UF process was impacted by the coastal bloom, the fouling was eliminated through chemical cleaning conducted at a frequency less than once per 12 h.Despite the severe pollution, this study confirmed the pollution resistance and treatment performance of the UF process, indicating that UF has the potential to enhance the biosecurity level.  相似文献
