Some explicit expressions for the probability distribution of force magnitude

Recently, empirical investigations have suggested that the components of contact forces follow the exponential distribution. However, explicit expressions for the probability distribution of the corresponding force magnitude have not been known and only approximations have been used in the literature. In this note, for the first time, I provide explicit expressions for the probability distribution of the force magnitude. Both two-dimensional and three-dimensional cases are considered.     

Internetworking VCSEL-Based Hybrid Base Station Towards Simultaneous Wireless and Wired Transport for Converged Access Network

A hybrid base-station (H-BS) scheme that has the potential to establish intercommunications among neighboring access nodes without sending the signals to the edge node to simultaneously transport wireless and wireline services to integrated access nodes is proposed. As the scheme uses vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers as the light source in the H-BS, it can potentially be realized at low cost without any temperature control.     

A note on ‘The exponentiated power Lomax distribution and its applications'

Abd El-Monsef, Sweilam and Sabry [Quality and Reliability Engineering International, 2020, doi: 10.1002/qre.2780] proposed a four-parameter exponentiated power Lomax distribution, derived its properties and illustrated three data applications. In this note, we show that several properties expressed in terms of infinite sums can be simplified to a known special function. We also show that certain one-parameter distributions can provide better fits to at least two of the data sets considered.     

The Waiting Time Distribution

Many problems in industrial engineering entail consideration of the waiting time, see [1–30]. In this note, some exact expressions are derived for the probability density function of the waiting time. A computer program and tabulations of the associated percentage points are also provided.

A note on “Parameter estimation for bivariate Weibull distribution using generalized moment method for reliability evaluation”

Yuan [Quality and Reliability Engineering International, 2018, doi: 10.1002/qre.2276] proposed a generalized moment method for parameter estimation of a particular bivariate Weibull distribution and derived corresponding confidence intervals. The expressions given for the confidence intervals do not appear correct. In this note, we correct the confidence intervals and recompute them for two real data sets.
