BACKGROUND: The comparative clinical pharmacology of cisatracurium and rocuronium and their combinations has not been reported. In this study, the authors compared the relative potency and the clinical profile and characterized the interaction of both drugs. METHODS: Two hundred twenty adults classified as American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status I and anesthetized with propofol-fentanyl-nitrous oxide were studied. In part 1, the neuromuscular-blocking effects of cisatracurium and rocuronium were assessed after administration of bolus doses of 20-50 microg/kg and 100-300 microg/kg, respectively. In part 2, we compared the time course of 1xED50, 1, 1.5, and 2xED95 doses of both drugs (where ED50 and ED95 are, respectively, the doses producing 50% and 95% depression of the first twitch height [T1]). In part 3, equieffective combinations of both drugs were studied to characterize their interaction. RESULTS: The calculated ED50 values and their 95% confidence intervals were 111 (107-115) and 26.2 (25.8-26.5) microg/kg [corrected] for rocuronium and cisatracurium, respectively. Compared with equipotent doses of cisatracurium, rocuronium had a faster onset, and a faster spontaneous T1 and train-of-four recovery times that were significant except at maximum recovery with the 2xED95 dose. The interaction between rocuronium and cisatracurium was synergistic, and the time profile of the combination group was different from that of the single-dose groups. CONCLUSIONS: Cisatracurium is four to five times more potent than rocuronium. Rocuronium had a faster onset of action, a shorter clinical duration, and a faster spontaneous recovery rate compared with equipotent doses of cisatracurium.  相似文献

This paper presents a study on the potential application of artificial muscles based on shape memory alloys as linear robotic actuators. An extended discussion on various control techniques and ways of biologically inspired muscle arrangements is presented. A two DOF experimental robotic arm was built and used to test the performance of the proposed artificial muscle configurations, and a biologically inspired control strategy using a rule-base concept was developed and tested using the two DOF experimental robotic arm.  相似文献

A date extract known locally in Iraq as “dibis” was used as substrate for mycological fat formation by Penicillium lilacinum, P. soppii and Aspergillus nidulans. The three fungi were grown on dibis medium at three concentrations. Carbohydrates readily disappeared but this was accompanied by poor fungal growth and low yields of fat. Fungal growth on dibis media enriched with asparagine led to heavy mycelial yields together with higher fat contents. Both economic and fat coefficients rose considerably. It is concluded that nitrogen deficiency in dibis media is at least one of the major factors against good fungal growth and high fat formation.  相似文献

MXenes exhibit excellent capacitance at high scan rates in sulfuric acid aqueous electrolytes, but the narrow potential window of aqueous electrolytes limits the energy density. Organic electrolytes and room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) can provide higher potential windows, leading to higher energy density. The large cation size of RTIL hinders its intercalation in-between the layers of MXene limiting the specific capacitance in comparison to aqueous electrolytes. In this work, different chain lengths alkylammonium (AA) cations are intercalated into Ti3C2Tx, producing variation of MXene interlayer spacings (d-spacing). AA-cation-intercalated Ti3C2Tx (AA-Ti3C2), exhibits higher specific capacitances, and cycling stabilities than pristine Ti3C2Tx in 1 m 1-ethly-3-methylimidazolium bis-(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)-imide (EMIMTFSI) in acetonitrile and neat EMIMTFSI RTIL electrolytes. Pre-intercalated MXene with an interlayer spacing of ≈2.2 nm, can deliver a large specific capacitance of 257 F g−1 (1428 mF cm−2 and 492 F cm−3) in neat EMIMTFSI electrolyte leading to high energy density. Quasi elastic neutron scattering and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy are used to study the dynamics of confined RTIL in pre-intercalated MXene. Molecular dynamics simulations suggest significant differences in the structures of RTIL ions and AA cations inside the Ti3C2Tx interlayer, providing insights into the differences in the observed electrochemical behavior.  相似文献

This study reports the glass transition temperature (Tg), and sorption and diffusion of subcritical CO2 gas in polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) nanocomposites containing organically modified smectite clay, Cloisite 20A (C20A). A range of methods for preparing the PMMA‐clay nanocomposites was investigated and a solution coprecipitation method was selected as the most appropriate. Using this method, PMMA nanocomposite containing 2, 4, 6, and 10 wt% nanoclay loadings were prepared. Wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicated that the 2 wt% nanocomposite materials had a well‐dispersed intercalated clay structure. The Tg for PMMA‐C20A nanocomposites, as measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), was found to be independent of the clay loading. CO2 solubility studies from 0 to 65°C and pressures up to 5.5 MPa using an in situ gravimetric technique were performed on compression‐molded films. The organoclay was found to have no effect on the solubility of CO2 in PMMA, and therefore the solubility of CO2 in the nanocomposite can be determined from the solubility of CO2 in the matrix polymer alone. Diffusion coefficients were determined using the appropriate transport models for these test conditions and the diffusion coefficients for CO2 in PMMA‐C20A composites were found to increase with organoclay loading. It is believed that the processing path taken to prepare the nanocomposites may have resulted in the agglomeration of the C20A organoclay, thereby preventing the polymer chains from fully wetting and intercalating a large number of clay particles. These agglomerations are responsible for the formation of large‐scale holes within the glassy nanocomposite, which behave as low resistance pathways for gas transport within the PMMA matrix. POLYM. Large scale synthesis and delamination of 2D Mo2CT x (where T is a surface termination group) has been achieved by selectively etching gallium from the recently discovered nanolaminated, ternary transition metal carbide Mo2Ga2C. Different synthesis and delamination routes result in different flake morphologies. The resistivity of free‐standing Mo2CT x films increases by an order of magnitude as the temperature is reduced from 300 to 10 K, suggesting semiconductor‐like behavior of this MXene, in contrast to Ti3C2T x which exhibits metallic behavior. At 10 K, the magnetoresistance is positive. Additionally, changes in electronic transport are observed upon annealing of the films. When 2 μm thick films are tested as electrodes in supercapacitors, capacitances as high as 700 F cm?3 in a 1 m sulfuric acid electrolyte and high capacity retention for at least 10,000 cycles at 10 A g?1 are obtained. Free‐standing Mo2CT x films, with ≈8 wt% carbon nanotubes, perform well when tested as an electrode material for Li‐ions, especially at high rates. At 20 and 131 C cycling rates, stable reversible capacities of 250 and 76 mAh g?1, respectively, are achieved for over 1000 cycles.  相似文献

Space-time coding is a bandwidth and power efficient method of communication over fading channels that realizes the benefits of multiple transmit antennas. Specific codes have been constructed using design criteria derived for quasi-static flat Rayleigh or Rician fading, where channel state information is available at the receiver. It is evident that the practicality of space-time codes will be greatly enhanced if the derived design criteria remain valid in the absence of perfect channel state information. It is even more desirable that the design criteria not be unduly sensitive to frequency selectivity and to the Doppler spread. This paper presents a theoretical study of these issues beginning with the effect of channel estimation error. Here it is assumed that a channel estimator extracts fade coefficients at the receiver and for constellations with constant energy, it is proved that in the absence of ideal channel state information the design criteria for space-time codes is still valid. The analysis also demonstrates that standard channel estimation techniques can be used in conjunction with space-time codes provided that the number of transmit antennas is small. We also derive the maximum-likelihood detection metric in the presence of channel estimation errors. Next, the effect of multiple paths on the performance of space-time codes is studied for a slowly changing Rayleigh channel. It is proved that the presence of multiple paths does not decrease the diversity order guaranteed by the design criteria used to construct the space-time codes. Similar results hold for rapid fading channels with or without multiple paths. The conclusion is that the diversity order promised by space-time coding is achieved under a variety of mobility conditions and environmental effects  相似文献

This work was undertaken to investigate microemulsion (ME) as a topical delivery system for the poorly water-soluble voriconazole. Different ME components were selected for the preparation of plain ME systems with suitable rheological properties for topical use. Two permeation enhancers were incorporated, namely sodium deoxycholate or oleic acid. Drug-loaded MEs were evaluated for their physical appearance, pH, rheological properties and in vitro permeation studies using guinea pig skin. MEs based on polyoxyethylene(10)oleyl ether (Brij 97) as the surfactant showed pseudoplastic flow with thixotropic behavior and were loaded with voriconazole. Jojoba oil-based MEs successfully prolonged voriconazole release up to 4?h. No significant changes in physical or rheological properties were recorded on storage for 12 months at ambient conditions. The presence of permeation enhancers favored transdermal rather than dermal delivery. Sodium deoxycholate was more effective than oleic acid for enhancing the voriconazole permeation. Voriconazole-loaded MEs, with and without enhancers, showed significantly better antifungal activity against Candida albicans than voriconazole supersaturated solution. In conclusion, the studied ME formulae could be promising vehicles for topical delivery of voriconazole.  相似文献

Atypical mycobacteria, which are common opportunistic pathogens in patients with AIDS, have not been previously implicated in the pathogenesis of paranasal sinus infections; we describe two such patients. Clinical and radiographic evidence of bilateral maxillary and ethmoid sinusitis was observed for one patient; his infection proved resistant to therapy with conventional antimicrobials and decongestants. Endoscopic ethmoid sinus biopsy yielded a specimen containing acid-fast bacilli (AFB) that were later identified as Mycobacterium kansasii. Antimycobacterial therapy had not resulted in amelioration of the sinusitis > 2 months later, at which time he died of cerebral toxoplasmosis. The second patient presented with a tender right frontotemporal soft-tissue mass; a computed tomogram disclosed that it extended through the frontal bone to the frontal sinus. Inflamed tissue debrided from the sinus contained AFB; cultures first yielded M. kansasii and later Mycobacterium avium complex. Bacteremia due to both organisms was also demonstrated. Infection progressed despite therapy.  相似文献
