The quality and value of fresh mushrooms are often diminished by the presence of high bacterial populations that cause a brown, blotchy appearance. The objective of the present research was to evaluate the addition of hydrogen peroxide and/or calcium chloride to irrigation water as a means to reduce total bacterial populations on fresh mushrooms. Crops were grown using commercial mushroom growing practices except for the addition of 0.75% hydrogen peroxide and/or 0.3% calcium chloride irrigation water added to the crop starting 11 d after the casing layer was applied on top of mushroom compost. Irrigation water without the added treatments acted as the control. Mushrooms were aseptically sampled from the production beds for enumerating bacterial counts. Total aerobic bacterial populations were determined by standard microbiological plating procedures. Mushroom whiteness (L‐value) and color (delta E) after harvest and postharvest storage were measured using a Minolta chromameter. Harvested mushrooms were separated by treatment and weighed to record yield. Mushrooms irrigated with water (control) had 7.3 log colony‐forming units (CFU) of aerobic bacterial populations per gram of fresh mushroom tissue. Compared with the control, irrigation with 0.75% hydrogen peroxide and 0.3% calcium chloride reduced the bacterial populations on fresh mushrooms by 87% (6.4 log CFU/g). Irrigation with hydrogen peroxide and calcium chloride significantly enhanced mushroom whiteness after harvest as well as after 6 d of postharvest storage at 12 °C. The irrigation treatments did not have a significant effect on crop yields; hence, the addition of hydrogen peroxide and calcium chloride to irrigation water was demonstrated to have good potential as a practical strategy to reduce bacterial populations and to improve the quality of fresh mushrooms.  相似文献

TiO2thin films with 0.2 wt%, 0.4 wt%, 0.6wt%, and 0.8 wt% Fe were prepared on glass and silicon substrates using sol–gel spin coating technique. The optical cut-off points are increasingly red-shifted and the absorption edge is shifted over the higher wavelength region with Fe content increasing. As Fe content increases, the optical band gap decreases from 3.03 to 2.48 eV whereas the tail width increases from 0.26 to 1.43 eV. The X-ray diffraction(XRD) patterns for doped films at 0.2 wt% and0.8 wt% Fe reveal no characteristic peaks, indicating that the film is amorphous whereas undoped TiO2exhibits(101) orientation with anatase phase. Thin films of higher Fe content exhibit a homogeneous, uniform, and nanostructured highly porous shell morphology.  相似文献

The paper presents the experimental results showing that the crystalline phase of the nano-particles, synthesized in a DC transferred arc thermal plasma reactor, critically depend on the operating pressure in the reaction zone. The paper reports about the changes in crystalline phases of three different compounds namely: aluminium oxide (Al2O3), aluminium nitride (AlN) and iron oxide (FexOy) synthesized at 760 Torr and 500 Torr of operating pressures. The major outcome of the present work is that the phases having higher defect densities are more probable to form at the sub-atmospheric operating pressures. The variations in the crystalline structures are discussed on the basis of the change in the temperature during the nucleation process, prevailing at the boundary of the plasma, on account of the ambient pressures. The as-synthesized nano-particles were examined by X-ray diffraction analysis and transmission electron microscopy. In addition, the confirmatory analysis of the crystalline phases of iron oxides was carried out with the help of Mössbauer spectroscopy.  相似文献

Abstract

Au–FexOy composite nanoparticles (NPs) are of great technological interest due to their combined optical and magnetic properties. However, typical syntheses are neither simple nor ecologically friendly, creating a challenging situation for process scale-up. Here we describe conditions for preparing Au–FexOy NPs in aqueous solutions and at ambient temperatures, without resorting to solvents or amphiphilic surfactants with poor sustainability profiles. These magnetic gold nanoclusters (MGNCs) are prepared in practical yields with average sizes slightly below 100 nm, and surface plasmon resonances that extend to near-infrared wavelengths, and sufficient magnetic moment (up to 6 emu g–1) to permit collection within minutes by handheld magnets. The MGNCs also produce significant photoluminescence when excited at 488 nm. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis indicates a relatively even distribution of Fe within the MGNCs, as opposed to a central magnetic core.  相似文献

Ferromagnetic nanowires are finding use as untethered sensors and actuators for probing micro‐ and nanoscale biophysical phenomena, such as for localized sensing and application of forces and torques on biological samples, for tissue heating through magnetic hyperthermia, and for microrheology. Quantifying the magnetic properties of individual isolated nanowires is crucial for such applications. Dynamic cantilever magnetometry is used to measure the magnetic properties of individual sub‐500 nm diameter polycrystalline nanowires of Ni and Ni80Co20 fabricated by template‐assisted electrochemical deposition. The values are compared with bulk, ensemble measurements when the nanowires are still embedded within their growth matrix. It is found that single‐particle and ensemble measurements of nanowires yield significantly different results that reflect inter‐nanowire interactions and chemical modifications of the sample during the release process from the growth matrix. The results highlight the importance of performing single‐particle characterization for objects that will be used as individual magnetic nanoactuators or nanosensors in biomedical applications.  相似文献

Coordinate measuring machine (CMM) has been extensively used in surface measurement and inspection. CMM produces more accurate and reliable results compared with non-contact measurement devices, since CMM measures target surfaces in a tactile way and is not affected by surface reflection quality. However, when there is porosity on the outside surfaces, CMM measurement will have errors because part of the probing stylus will come into the porosity spaces. This paper presents a method of using CMM to measure external profiles of objects with external porosity spaces. The center of a CMM probing stylus will be compensated to avoid porosity spaces and located above external surface areas along surface normal directions. Such a probing strategy can be implemented in both computer-aided design (CAD)-guided mode and non-CAD-guided mode. When the CAD model is available, the probing styli are guided to approach the surface along its normal directions successively to identify and avoid porosity spaces. When the CAD model is unavailable, surface normal directions will be estimated first and then adjusted. The presented method is able to avoid porosity spaces in CMM measurement regardless of the availability of CAD models.  相似文献

Design stage optimization of an industrial low-density polyethylene (LDPE) tubular reactor is carried out for two simultaneous objectives: maximization of monomer conversion and minimization of normalized side products (methyl, vinyl, and vinylidene groups), both at the reactor end, with end-point constraint on number-average molecular weight (Mn,f) in the product. An inequality constraint is also imposed on reactor temperature to avoid run-away condition in the tubular reactor. The binary-coded elitist non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) and its jumping gene (JG) adaptations are used to solve the optimization problem. Both the equality and inequality constraints are handled by penalty functions. Only sub-optimal solutions are obtained when the equality end-point constraint on Mn,f is imposed. But, correct global optimal solutions can be assembled from among the Pareto-optimal sets of several problems involving a softer constraint on Mn,f. A systematic approach of constrained-dominance principle for handling constraints is applied for the first time in the binary-coded NSGA-II-aJG and NSGA-II-JG, and its performance is compared to the penalty function approach. A three-objective optimization problem with the compression power (associated with the compression cost) as the third objective along with the aforementioned two objectives, is also studied. The results of three-objective optimization are compared with two different combinations of two-objective problems.  相似文献

Bactericidal and organic degradation effects of TiO2 on pumice stone are described in this paper. Immobilization of TiO2 on pumice stone is easy and efficient method to obtain photocatalytic reactions without the problem of filtration. Pumice stone is soft and available as pellets that can be used in pellets fixed (with cement or poly carbonate) on a slanting plank/glass by coating the preformed TiO2 over the pellets using simple paint brush for applying the photo catalyst. The treatment of inactivation of bacteria especially E. coli existing in real river waters and also different model organic substrate degradations like acid orange-7, resorcinol, 4, 6-dinitro-o-cresol, 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonicacid, isoproturan are studied. Furthermore, TiO2 over pumice stone loaded in a multi tube reactor gave similar results for the disinfection and detoxification studies.  相似文献

A combined Rankine and ejector refrigeration cycle is proposed for the production of power and refrigeration output using duratherm 600 oil as the heat transfer fluid. Thermodynamic analysis has been done to observe the effect of parameters on the performance of the combined cycle. The effect of various parameters asthe turbine inlet pressure, evaporator temperature, condenser temperature, extraction ratio and direct normal radiation per unit area on the performance of the cycle have significant effects on the net power output, refrigeration output, first law efficiency and second law efficiency. It is also observed that the maximum irreversibility occurs in central receiver as 52.5% followed by 25% in the heliostat, 5.3% in the heat recovery vapor generator, 2.6% in the ejector, and 1.6% in the turbine and around 1.1% in the other components of the cycle. The second law efficiency of the solar operated combined Rankine and ejector refrigeration cycle is 11.90% which is much lower than its first law efficiency of 14.81%.  相似文献
