The analysis of hydromagnetic flow has been a concern of consideration for research scientists and engineers. In this treatise, the unsteady hydromagnetic free convective flow of an incompressible, viscous, and electrically conducting fluid and heat transfer in a vertical cylinder with Hall effects and transverse magnetic field, in the presence of heat source and sink, is studied. Exact solutions of dimensionless unsteady governing equations are obtained by using the Laplace transform technique. Transient fluid velocity and temperature field are depicted by graphs, whereas heat transfer rate, mass flux, and skin-friction are computed in a tabular form for different physical parametric values, such as the source/sink parameter, Hall current parameter, Prandtl number, and Hartmann number. The valuable result from the investigation is that the Hall parameter slightly accelerates the fluid velocity and it provides resistance to the skin friction at the cylindrical surface. Moreover, it is noticeable that temperature as well as velocity enhances and finally gets to its steady state with time. To be noted, the Hall effects have been widely applied in numerous experimental engineering applications, such as constrictions of turbines, Hall accelerators, Hall sensors.  相似文献

The conservation and efficient use of energy in industry has, for a long time, been a priority of the Government of India. In anticipation of the enactment of federal legislation on energy management for industry, the State of Government of Tamilnadu, Kerala, and other Southern States, made energy audits mandatory for large-scale energy-consuming industries. So among industrial consumers, the aspect of energy conservation is gaining due importance of the realization that Energy Saved is Energy Produced and that too at Economical Cost. This paper shares the experiences of the authors on energy conservation projects carried out in a textile industry situated in India's Tamilnadu State. Economic and efficient measures of energy conservation have been followed subject to budget constraints and the effect of such measures were realized through reduction in energy costs with the added advantage of environmental safety  相似文献

Biodiesel either in neat form or as a mixture with diesel fuel is widely investigated to solve the twin problem of depletion of fossil fuels and environmental degradation. The main objective of the present study is to compare performance, emission and combustion characteristics of biodiesel derived from non edible Jatropha oil in a dual fuel diesel engine with base line results of diesel fuel. The performance parameters evaluated were: brake thermal efficiency, brake specific fuel consumption, power output. As a part of combustion study, in-cylinder pressure, rate of pressure rise and heat release rates were evaluated. The emission parameters such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, un-burnt hydrocarbon, oxides of nitrogen and smoke opacity with the different fuels were also measured and compared with base line results. The different properties of Jatropha oil after transestrification were within acceptable limits of standards as set by many countries. The brake thermal efficiency of Jatropha methyl ester and its blends with diesel were lower than diesel and brake specific energy consumption was found to be higher. However, HC, CO and CO2 and smoke were found to be lower with Jatropha biodiesel fuel. NOx emissions on Jatropha biodiesel and its blend were higher than Diesel. The results from the experiments suggest that biodiesel derived from non edible oil like Jatropha could be a good substitute to diesel fuel in diesel engine in the near future as far as decentralized energy production is concerned. In view of comparable engine performance and reduction in most of the engine emissions, it can be concluded and biodiesel derived from Jatropha and its blends could be used in a conventional diesel engine without any modification.  相似文献

To diversify the mix of domestic energy resources and to reduce dependence on imported oil, ethanol is widely investigated for applying in combination with Diesel fuel to reduce pollutants, including smoke and NOx. Present work aims at developing a fumigation system for introduction of ethanol in a small capacity Diesel engine and to determine its effects on emission. Fumigation was achieved by using a constant volume carburetor. Different percentages of ethanol fumes with air were then introduced in the Diesel engine, under various load conditions. Ethanol is an oxygenated fuel and lead to smooth and efficient combustion. Atomization of ethanol also results in lower combustion temperature. During the present study, gaseous emission has been found to be decreasing with ethanol fumigation. Results from the experiment suggest that ethanol fumigation can be effectively employed in existing compression ignition engine to achieve substantial saving of the limited Diesel oil. Results show that fumigated Diesel engine exhibit better engine performance with lower NOx, CO, CO2 and exhaust temperature. Ethanol fumigation has resulted in increase of unburned hydrocarbon (HC) emission in the entire load range. Considering the parameters, the optimum percentage was found as 15% for ethanol fumigation.  相似文献

We synthesized a batch of co-doped (Ce3++Sm3+): LBZ glass specimens by melt quenching process and their structural and radiation properties were studied by employing XRD, FE-SEM, optical absorption, photoluminescence and lifetime measurements. UV–Vis–NIR absorption studies of the co-doped (Ce3++Sm3+): LBZ glassy matrix displays pertinent bands of both Ce3+ and Sm3+ ions. Individually doped Sm3+: LBZ glass exhibit bright orange emission at 603?nm (4G5/26H7/2) under the excitation of 403?nm. Nevertheless, the luminescence intensities pertaining to Sm3+ were extraordinarily increased by co-doping with Ce3+ ions to Sm3+: LBZ glassy matrices because of energy transfer from Ce3+ to Sm3+. The fluorescence spectra of co-doped (Ce3++Sm3+): LBZ exhibits characteristic emission bands of Ce3+ (441?nm, blue) and Sm3+ (603?nm, reddish orange) under the excitation of 362?nm. Decay curves of Ce3+ and Sm3+ ions in co-doped glass has been fitted to double exponential nature. The decreasing lifetime of donor ion and rising lifetime of acceptor ion in double doped glass could support the energy transfer from Ce3+ to Sm3+ ions in the host matrix. The CIE coordinates and CCT values were calculated for all the obtained co-doped glassy samples from their luminescence spectra. By adding Ce3+ ions to individually doped Sm3+: LBZ glass matrix, the emitting color changes from reddish orange to white light which resembles the energy transfer from Ce3+ to Sm3+ ions. These studies, perhaps implied that attained co-doped (Ce3++Sm3+): LBZ glassy samples are potential materials for white lighting appliances.  相似文献

The authors compare the subband compression capabilities of eight filter sets (consisting of linear-phase quadrature mirror filters (QMFs), perfect reconstruction filters, and nonlinear phase wavelets) at different bit rates, using-a filter-based bit allocation procedure.
