Intense and frequent marital conflict is associated with greater appraisals of threat and self-blame in children, but little else is known about contextual factors that might affect appraisals. Systemic family theories propose that to understand child adaptation, it is necessary to understand the interconnected nature of family subsystem relationships. In a sample of 257 families with 8- to 12-year-old children, this study examined whether a four-level typology of marital conflict management was related to children's perceptions of marital conflict and their appraisals of perceived threat and self-blame. In addition, family cohesion was tested as a moderator of the relationship between marital conflict style and children's appraisals. Observational coding was used to group couples into Harmonious, Disengaged, Conflictual-Expressive, and Conflictual-Hostile groups. Children's report of the intensity, frequency, and degree of resolution of interparental discord corresponded well with observers' ratings. The relationship between marital conflict style and appraisals of threat and self-blame was moderated by family cohesiveness. At high levels of family cohesiveness, no group differences were found for either perceived threat or self-blame, whereas when family cohesiveness was low, threat was higher for the Harmonious and Conflictual-Hostile groups, as compared to the Conflictual-Expressive group, and self-blame was higher for both conflict groups (expressive and hostile), as compared to the Disengaged group. The results provide further evidence of interconnected nature of family subsystem relationships and the importance of distinguishing among different approaches to marital conflict management for understanding the complex and perhaps subtle but meaningful effects different family system factors have on child adaptation. TRIUMF operates several high power industrial cyclotrons for the commercial production of isotopes for radiological diagnostics and therapy. Two of these accelerators, TR30-1 and TR30-2, are capable of delivering H beams of 30 MeV and beam currents in excess of 1000 μA. For many years, in-house produced diamond-like carbon (DLC) foils of various compositions have been utilized to extract proton beams from these cyclotrons (Zeisler and Jaggi, 2008) [1].The TRIUMF Carbon Foil Laboratory, now incorporated as MicromatterTM, uses pulsed laser deposition to fabricate DLC films in a wide thickness range (from 10 nm to ∼10 μm). More recently, we reported the production of DLC foils containing boron (Zeisler and Jaggi, 2010) [2]. Carbon-boron multilayer foils have outstanding mechanical stability and show an extended lifetime in high intensity proton beams. In an attempt to further enhance the quality of our beam strippers, we investigated the production of carbon-silicon multilayer foils.  相似文献

Vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency is highly prevalent among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study aims to determine the relationship between vitamin D and frequency of vascular access dysfunction (VAD) in hemodialysis (HD) patients. We reviewed medical records of all HD patients who had serum 25‐hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) levels at 4 outpatient dialysis facilities between January 2011 and January 2012. Patients were included if they were ≥18 years of age, had been on maintenance dialysis for ≥3 months, and had native arteriovenous fistula or synthetic polytetrafluoroethylene grafts for dialysis access. Patients with catheters were excluded. 25‐Hydroxyvitamin D levels <30 ng/mL were documented in 183 patients (86%). Median and interquartile range [Q1, Q3] of 25OHD level was 16 [11, 25] ng/mL. Among 213 dialysis patients, 102 had VAD. Median 25OHD level was significantly lower in patients who had VAD than in those without VAD (14.5 [10, 22] vs. 19 [12, 27.5] ng/mL; P = 0.003). There was significant association between VAD and the lowest quartile relative to the highest quartile of 25OHD level. A 25OHD level <12 ng/mL was associated with more than doubling of risk for VAD (OR 2.56; 95% CI [1.05–6.23], P < 0.05). Of 213 patients, 140 were treated with ergocalciferol and 73 were not treated. Treatment was associated with significant reduction in VAD (OR = 0.36; 95% CI [0.19–0.68], P = 0.002). Vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency is an independent risk factor for VAD in HD patients; its treatment with ergocalciferol is associated with decreased VAD.  相似文献

The synthesis of electrically Conducting Natural Rubber (CNR) nanoparticles from natural rubber (cis 1, 4 polyisoprene) by a simple chemical doping technique is reported for the first time. Much before the establishment of conjugation as a precondition for polymers to be conducting a typical nonconjugated polymer like cis 1,4 polyisoprene was shown to develop intrinsic conductivity on doping. However, the possibility of developing conducting nanoparticles of natural rubber by doping has never been explored. Doping of natural rubber solution with Antimony pentchloride is found to lead to the formation of nanosized rubber particles with improved thermal stability and lower degradation characteristics than that of pristine rubber. Transmission electron microscopy and Dynamic Light Scattering experiments revealed a highly uniform dispersion of the particles with sizes in the range of 4 nm. The doped nanoparticles are found to retain “rubbery” properties of natural rubber and therefore these can be rightly termed as Rubber Nano particles. The development of nanoparticles of rubber assumes great significance in that it would lead to hitherto unknown applications for natural rubber in micro applications‐like sensors, and optoelectronics devices to macro applications such as compatible reinforcing fillers for elastomers and plastics to replace conventional fillers like carbon particles. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A method is presented for estimating the distributions of the components and parameters determined with spectral analysis when it is applied to a single data set. The method uses bootstrap resampling to simulate the effect of noise on the computed spectrum and to correct for possible bias in the estimates. A number of bootstrap procedures are reviewed, and one is selected for application to the kinetic analysis of positron emission tomography dynamic studies. The technique is shown to require minimal assumptions about noise in the measurements, and its small sample properties are established through Monte-Carlo simulations. The advantages and limitations of spectral analysis with bootstrap resampling for deriving inferences for tracer kinetic modeling are illustrated through sample analyses of time-activity curves for [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose and [15O]-labeled water.  相似文献

We consider a network of rechargeable sensors, deployed redundantly in a random sensing environment, and address the problem of how sensor nodes should be activated dynamically so as to maximize a generalized system performance objective. The optimal sensor activation problem is a very difficult decision question, and under Markovian assumptions on the sensor discharge/recharge periods, it represents a complex semi-Markov decision problem. With the goal of developing a practical, distributed but efficient solution to this complex, global optimization problem, we first consider the activation question for a set of sensor nodes whose coverage areas overlap completely. For this scenario, we show analytically that there exists a simple threshold activation policy that achieves a performance of at least 3/4 of the optimum over all possible policies. We extend this threshold policy to a general network setting where the coverage areas of different sensors could have partial or no overlap with each other, and show by simulations that the performance of our policy is very close to that of the globally optimal policy. Our policy is fully distributed, and requires the sensor nodes to only keep track of the node activation states in its immediate neighborhood. We also consider the effects of spatial correlation on the performance of the threshold activation policy, and the choice of the optimal threshold.  相似文献

Lipases are versatile catalysts. In addition to their natural reaction of fat hydrolysis, lipases catalyze a plethora of other reactions such as esterification, amidation, and transesterification of esters as well as organic carbonates. Moreover, lipases accept a wide variety of substrates while maintaining their regioselectivity and stereoselectivity. Lipases are highly stable even under adverse conditions such as organic solvents, high temperatures, and so forth. Applications of lipases include production of food additives, chiral intermediates, and pharmaceutical products. Among these, synthesis of various chiral intermediates in pharmaceutical industry and cocoa butter substitutes is being commercially exploited currently.

Lipase-catalyzed esterification and transesterification in anhydrous media (e.g., organic solvents and supercritical fluids) has been an area of major research activity in the past decade or so. Absence of water eliminates the competing hydrolysis reaction. Moreover, substrate specificity, regioselectivity, and stereoselectivity of the enzyme can be controlled by varying the reaction medium. Although organic solvents, which are generally used for lipase-catalyzed reactions, are nearly anhydrous; they contain water in trace quantities. This water content can be controlled over a range and has a profound effect on the activity of lipases. Water not only affects the enzyme but also acts as a competing nucleophile. Enzyme activity has been correlated with thermodynamic activity of water in the medium rather than with the concentration of water. Because lipases are not soluble in most organic solvents, the method of preparation of the enzyme has a strong influence on the enzymatic activity. The major factors are the pH of the aqueous solution in which the enzyme last existed, additives used during preparation, and method of removal of water (e.g., freeze-drying, evaporation, extraction of enzyme into solvent, etc.). Immobilization of lipases allows easy recovery and reuse of the enzyme. Various immobilization techniques have been studied for lipases and some of them have been shown to enhance the activity and stability of the enzyme. Enzyme stability is an important parameter determining the commercial feasibility of the enzymatic process. Various factors, such as temperature, reaction medium, water concentration, as well as the method of preparation, affect the stability of the lipases.

This review deals with fundamental as well as practical aspects of lipase catalysis. A discussion has been presented on various factors affecting lipase activity and stability. Moreover, a brief account of current and potential applications of lipases has been given.  相似文献

The purpose of our study was to evaluate the regional distribution of the resting cerebral blood flow (CBF) pattern in preterm neonates. Sixty-eight preterm babies with a gestational age of less than 34 weeks and a birth weight of less than 1500 g were enrolled into the study. The CBF was measured by the noninvasive intravenous 133Xenon method at three different times. Depending on the age we classified our measurements into three groups. Group 1: measurement between 2-36 h (n = 46). Group 2: measurement between 36-108 h (n = 39). Group 3: measurement between 108-240 h (n = 41). In all three groups CBF was significantly lower in the occipital region than in the frontal and parietal regions (group 1: frontal region 12.8 +/- 3.5 ml/100 g/min, parietal region 12.8 +/- 3.9 ml/100 mg/min, and occipital region 11.6 +/- 3.18 ml/100 g/min; group 2: frontal region 15.4 +/- 4.2 ml/100 g/min, parietal region 15.3 +/- 4.1 ml/100 g/min, and occipital region 13.4 +/- 3.5 ml/100 g/min; group 3: frontal region 14.6 +/- 3.6 ml/100 g/min, parietal region 14.6 +/- 3.2 ml/100 g/min, and occipital region 12.8 +/- 2.7 ml/100 g/min.). CBF did not differ between the left and the right hemispheres in either of the three measured regions. No gradient was found in infants between 108 h and 240 h of age with periventricular leukomalacia and periventricular haemorrhage. CONCLUSION. In preterm neonates the antero-posterior gradient of CBF is already present. Periventricular leukomalacia as well as periventricular haemorrhage may affect the regional regulation of CBF.  相似文献

Analytical studies are presented of the lubrication mechanism occurring in knee-joint replacements under restricted motion. The idealized model is shown to produce results consistent with those in normal situations. The effects of increasing the viscoelastic parameter of the lubricant are similar to those produced by an increase in the concentration of hyaluronic acid molecules in synovial fluid. Slip velocity occurring at the porous boundary aids the normal functioning of the joints. The load capacity of the replaced tibia has been shown to increase as the gap closes and/or the femoro-tibial angle decreases from π/20 to ?π/20 rad.  相似文献
