Ferroelectrics are multifunctional materials that reversibly change their polarization under an electric field. Recently, the search for new ferroelectrics has focused on organic and bio‐organic materials, where polarization switching is used to record/retrieve information in the form of ferroelectric domains. This progress has opened a new avenue for data storage, molecular recognition, and new self‐assembly routes. Crystalline glycine is the simplest amino acid and is widely used by living organisms to build proteins. Here, it is reported for the first time that γglycine, which has been known to be piezoelectric since 1954, is also a ferroelectric, as evidenced by local electromechanical measurements and by the existence of as‐grown and switchable ferroelectric domains in microcrystals grown from the solution. The experimental results are rationalized by molecular simulations that establish that the polarization vector in γglycine can be switched on the nanoscale level, opening a pathway to novel classes of bioelectronic logic and memory devices.  相似文献

The in vivo antioxidant activity of a quantified leaf extract of Cynara scolymus (artichoke) was studied. The aqueous artichoke leaf extract (ALE), containing 1.5% caffeoylquinic acid with chlorogenic acid being most abundant (0.30%), and luteolin‐7‐O‐glucoside as major flavonoid (0.15%), was investigated by evaluating the effect on different oxidative stress biomarkers, after 3 wk oral supplementation in the streptozotocin‐induced diabetic rat model. Apart from two test groups (0.2 g ALE/kg BW/day and 1 g ALE/kg BW/day, where BW is body weight), a healthy control group, untreated oxidative stress group, and vitamin E treated group (positive control) were included. A 0.2 g/kg BW/day of ALE decreased oxidative stress: malondialdehyde and 8‐hydroxydeoxyguanosine levels significantly diminished, whereas erythrocyte glutathione levels significantly increased. A 1.0 g/kg BW/day ALE did not show higher antioxidant activity.  相似文献

Au has been loaded (1% wt.) on different commercial oxide supports (CuO, La2O3, Y2O3, NiO) by three different methods: double impregnation (DIM), liquid-phase reductive deposition (LPRD), and ultrasonication (US). Samples were characterised by N2 adsorption at −196 °C, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry, high-angle annular dark-field imaging (Z-contrast), X-ray diffraction, and temperature programmed reduction. CO oxidation was used as a test reaction to compare the catalytic activities. The best results were obtained with Au loaded by DIM on the NiO support, with an activity of 7.2 × 10−4 molCO·gAu −1·s−1 at room temperature. This is most likely related to the Au nanoparticle size being the smallest in this catalyst (average 4.8 nm), since it is well known that gold particle size determines the catalytic activity. Other samples, having larger Au particle sizes (in the 2–12 nm range, with average sizes ranging from 4.8 to 6.8 nm), showed lower activities. Nevertheless, all samples prepared by DIM had activities (from 1.1 × 10−4 to 7.2 × 10−4 molCO·gAu −1·s−1, at room temperature) above those reported in the literature for gold on similar oxide supports. Therefore, this method gives better results than the most usual methods of deposition-precipitation or co-precipitation.   相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the predictive value of hedonic tests on apple juice carried out in a sensory laboratory, University common room and at home (post-consumption test) on ad libitum home consumption measured over 5 consecutive days. Thirty-five elderly volunteers (59–88 years old) and 33 young subjects (20–30 years old) assessed the degree of liking five apple juices varying in sweetness (0, 2, 4, 7 and 10% w/w sucrose added) on a nine-point hedonic scale. Both age groups judged similarly the juice with the lowest sugar concentrations, whereas the juice with 2% sugar added received lower scores from the elderly compared to the young participants. Those samples with higher sweetness (4, 7 and 10%) received higher scores from the elderly compared to the young people. The sample with no sugar added had higher mean score (all the subjects) in the home test (6.92±1.78) compared to both laboratory (5.51±2.15) and common room (5.92±2.08). No such differences were observed for the juices with the other sugar contents. In the elderly group, 1-day intake of apple juice remained on a similar level, regardless of sweetness liking, while among young adults the intake varied, and was highest for juices that were liked most (with 0 and 2% sucrose added). The results showed that hedonic ratings have a limited value as predictors of fruit juice consumption at home. The correlation between rated degree of liking and intake was low, especially for the elderly (r=0.39), indicating that factors other than pleasantness may affect intake. Among three test conditions, the lowest correlation of juice intake was obtained with laboratory test results (r=0.38), relatively higher—when hedonic tests were conducted in common room setting (r=0.49), or as the post-consumption test at home (r=0.73). Further research is required on sensory procedures relevant for the elderly, which together with some other nonsensory factors, would give a better prediction of consumption.  相似文献

Cyanine fluorescent dyes are attractive diagnostic or therapeutic agents due to their excellent optical properties. However, in free form, their use in biological applications is limited due to the short circulation time, instability, and toxicity. Therefore, their encapsulation into nano-carriers might help overcome the above-mentioned issues. In addition to indocyanine green (ICG), which is clinically approved and therefore the most widely used fluorescent dye, we tested the structurally similar and cheaper alternative called IR-820. Both dyes were encapsulated into liposomes. However, due to the synthetic origin of liposomes, they can induce an immunogenic response. To address this challenge, we proposed to use erythrocyte membrane vesicles (EMVs) as “new era” nano-carriers for cyanine dyes. The optical properties of both dyes were investigated in different biological relevant media. Then, the temperature stability and photo-stability of dyes in free form and encapsulated into liposomes and EMVs were evaluated. Nano-carriers efficiently protected dyes from thermal degradation, as well as from photo-induced degradation. Finally, a hemotoxicity study revealed that EMVs seem less hemotoxic dye carriers than clinically approved liposomes. Herein, we showed that EMVs exhibit great potential as nano-carriers for dyes with improved stability and hemocompatibility without losing excellent optical properties.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine ochratoxin A (OTA) concentrations in the raw materials and cooked meat products made from pigs sub-chronically exposed to OTA. The treated animal group (n = 5) was administered with 300 μg OTA/kg of feed for 30 days, whereas the control group (n = 5) was left untreated. OTA concentrations were quantified using immunoassay (ELISA) and high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection (HPLC-FD). OTA concentration was the highest in the kidney, followed by the lungs, liver, blood, spleen, heart, and adipose tissue. As for the final meat products, the highest average OTA concentration was detected in black pudding sausages (14.02 ± 2.75 μg/kg), then in liver sausages (13.77 ± 3.92 μg/kg), while the lowest was found in pâté (9.33 ± 2.66 μg/kg). The results pointed out that a sub-chronic pig exposure leads to the accumulation of OTA in raw materials and consequently in meat products, whose level of contamination is directly dependent on OTA contents in raw materials used for their production.  相似文献

Increasing energy consumption, shortages of fossil fuels, and concerns about the environmental impact of energy use, especially emissions of carbon dioxide, give fresh impetus to the development of renewable energy sources. With the advent of renewable energy, it is now indispensable that efficient energy storage systems have to be developed. One of the most promising storage systems to be employed in stationary energy storage applications are lithium-based batteries (LIB), mainly due to their high energy density, high power, and nearly 100 % efficiency. Within the scope of this paper, we carry out a patent search using the patent database PatBase® to assess the development status of LIB technology. The analysis of the generated patent sample reveals disproportionately high growth rates in LIB patent applications over the last years compared to other selected energy-related technologies. Breaking down patent application growth by the different components of LIB shows the principal drivers of growth. The purpose of this paper is to provide current research trends and prospects for the main LIB materials and designs.  相似文献

Silica gel and a chemically modified silica gel with polyaniline (PAN) were used for adsorption of ascorbic acid (AA) from aqueous solutions. The surface morphology of the adsorbents was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Adsorption experiments were carried out using both batch and columnar systems. In batch system, the effects of some important parameters such as sorbent dose, contact time, initial concentration and temperature of the adsorbate were studied. Based on regression analysis, the sorption data obtained for SiO2 were best represented by Freundlich isotherm and for the PAN/SiO2 composite, the equilibrium sorption data were fitted better by Langmuir isotherm. The kinetic studies showed that the adsorption of AA on both sorbents follows pseudo second-order kinetics which implies a chemisorption mechanism and according to diffusion model, intra-particle diffusion is the rate-controlling step. The thermodynamic studies also showed that PAN/SiO2 is a more effective adsorbent to adsorb AA than an unmodified SiO2. In columnar mode, the effects of salt on breakthrough curve were investigated. Two kinetic models, Thomas and Adams–Bohart, were applied to experimental data to predict the breakthrough curves using linear regression and determine the characteristic parameters of the column. Error analysis was carried out to investigate the adequacy and accuracy of the model equations. Desorption study showed that the adsorbed ascorbic acid is readily eluted from the column using dilute solution of NaOH. PAN/SiO2 was found to be a promising solid phase adsorbent to preconcentrate ascorbic acid from aqueous solutions and subsequent analysis.  相似文献
