A rare case of osteosarcoma primarily originating in the nasopharynx of an 11-year-old Papua New Guinean female who received irradiation and multi-agent chemotherapy for unilateral non-hereditary retinoblasma is described. The relevant literature is briefly reviewed. The complex role of radiation, cytotoxic drugs and genes in the development of a second malignant neoplasm in association with retinoblasma is also discussed.  相似文献

A gravimetric method using an eledrodynamic balance was developed for the measurement of transport properties such as the diffusion coefficient, D, solubility, S, and permeability, P, for oxygen into thin layers of asphalt materials deposited on aggregate and glass particles. Glass spheres and aggregate particles in the 14 to 50 μm size range coated with asphalt materials (AAB1, AAG1, and AAK1) were suspended contactless in the balance to measure D, S, and P in the temperature range 21 to 61° C. Transport parameters were determined from the changes in the particle mass due to the uptake of oxygen by the asphalt coating on glass spheres and nonspherical aggregate particles.  相似文献

Two-photon excitation fluorescence resonance energy transfer (2P-FRET) imaging microscopy can provide details of specific protein molecule interactions inside living cells. Fluorophore molecules used for 2P-FRET imaging have characteristic absorption and emission spectra that introduce spectral cross-talk (bleed-through) in the FRET signal that should be removed in the 2P-FRET images, to establish that FRET has actually occurred and to have a basis for distance estimations. These contaminations in the FRET signal can be corrected using a mathematical algorithm to extract the true FRET signal. Another approach is 2P-FRET fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM). This methodology allows studying the dynamic behavior of protein-protein interactions in living cells and tissues. 2P-FRET-FLIM was used to study the dimerization of the CAATT/enhancer binding protein alpha (C/EBPalpha). Results show that the reduction in donor lifetime in the presence of acceptor reveals the dimerization of the protein molecules and also determines more precisely the distance between the donor and acceptor. We describe the development and characterization of the 2P-FRET-FLIM imaging system with the Bio-Rad Radiance2100 confocal/multiphoton microscopy system.  相似文献

In an advanced manufacturing system, accurate assessment of tool life estimation is very essential for optimising the cutting performance in turning operation. Estimation of tool life generally requires considerable time and material and hence it is a relatively expensive procedure. In this present work, back-propagation feed forward artificial neural network (ANN) has been used for tool life prediction. Speed, feed, depth of cut and flank wear were taken as input parameters and tool life as an output parameter. Twenty-five patterns were used for training the network. Recently there have been significant research efforts to apply evolutionary computational techniques for determining the network weights. Hence an evolutionary technique named particle swarm optimisation has been used instead of the back-propagation algorithm and it is proved that the experimental results matched well with the values predicted by both artificial neural network with back-propagation and the proposed method. It is found that the computational time is greatly reduced by this method.  相似文献

3,6-diarylcarbazole derivatives, 3,6-di-(p-cyanophenyl)-N-hexylcarbazole (CNHC) and 3,6-di-(p-acetylphenyl)-N-hexylcarbazole (ANHC) were synthesized, characterized and energy levels determined. Steady state fluorescence of these molecules showed blue emission in thin films. Blends of these molecules with N,N′-diphenyl-N,N′-(bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,1′-biphenyl-4,4′-diamine (TPD) showed exciplex emission as the dominant one. Single layer organic light emitting devices (OLEDs) of CNHC, ANHC and their blends with TPD were fabricated using ITO as anode and Ca as cathode. The blend film devices showed pure exciplex electroluminescence.  相似文献

Laser surface alloying (LSA), with Wallex-50 and Tribaloy-700 powders, and laser transformation hardening (LTH) reduced the silt erosion rate in 16Cr-5Ni steel. Slurry erosion wear tests were conducted on 16Cr-5Ni steel, LSA-modified steel, and LT-hardened steel at different angles of impingement and velocities at a constant size of silica particles. The LSA-modified steel and LT-hardened steel showed improved wear resistance by about 1.5-3 times as compared to substrate 16Cr-5Ni steel for all angles of impingement. This improvement in hardness and erosion resistance was due to the incorporation of carbides and hard complex phases after LSA and LTH.  相似文献

An improved test protocol is presented for the measurement of particle concentrations in high-pressure cylinder gases. With the screening method, particles entrained in a cylinder gas can be collected and chemically analyzed for the isolation of particle sources. Results are presented for argon, helium, and nitrogen cylinder gases. Many fine particles are formed from the trace organic vapors present in the cylinder gas by gas-to-particle conversion occurring downstream of such pressure-reducing devices as an orifice plate. It is demonstrated that these fine particles in the cylinder gas can be significantly reduced by as much as three orders of magnitude by the insertion of an appropriate purifying stage before the pressure-reducing devices.  相似文献

We report the effect of annealing temperature on structural, electrical and optical properties of polycrystalline zinc oxide thin films grown on p-type silicon (100) and glass substrates by vacuum coating technique. The XRD and AFM measurements confirmed that the thin films grown by this technique have good crystalline hexagonal wurtzite structures and homogenous surfaces. The study also reveals that the rms value of thin film roughness increases from 6 to 16 nm, the optical band gap increases from 3.05 to 3.26 eV and resistivity from 0.3 to 5 Ωcm when the post-deposition annealing temperature is changed from 400 to 600 °C. It is observed that ZnO thin film annealed at 600 °C after deposition provide a smooth and flat texture suited for optoelectronic applications.  相似文献

In this study, we investigated whether the fast-twitch skeletal muscle sarco(endo)plasmic reticulum Ca2+ transport pump (SERCA1a) can functionally substitute the cardiac SERCA2a isoform and how its overexpression affects cardiac contractility. For this purpose, we generated transgenic (TG) mice that specifically overexpress SERCA1a in the heart, using the cardiac-specific alpha-myosin heavy chain promoter. Ectopic expression of SERCA1a resulted in a 2.5-fold increase in the amount of total SERCA protein. At the same time, the level of the endogenous SERCA2a protein was decreased by 50%, whereas the level of other muscle proteins, including calsequestrin, phospholamban, actin, and tropomyosin, remained unchanged. The steady-state level of SERCA phosphoenzyme intermediate was increased 2.5-fold, and the maximal velocity of Ca2+ uptake was increased 1.7-fold in TG hearts, demonstrating that the overexpressed protein is functional. Although the basal cytosolic calcium signal was decreased by 38% in TG cardiomyocytes, the amplitude of cytosolic calcium signal was increased by 71.8%. The rate of calcium resequestration was also increased in TG myocytes, which was reflected by a 51.6% decrease in the normalized time to 80% decay of calcium signal. This resulted in considerably increased peak rates of myocyte shortening and relengthening (50.0% and 66.6%, respectively). Cardiac functional analysis using isolated work-performing heart preparations revealed significantly faster rates of contraction and relaxation in TG hearts (41.9% and 39.5%, respectively). The time to peak pressure and the time to half-relaxation were shorter (29.1% and 32.7%, respectively). In conclusion, our study demonstrates that the SERCA1a pump can functionally substitute endogenous SERCA2a, and its overexpression significantly enhances Ca2+ transport and contractile function of the myocardium. These results also demonstrate that the SERCA pump level is a critical determinant of cardiac contractility.  相似文献
