In this paper, we discuss the thesis of selective representing –- the idea that the contents of the mental representations had by organisms are highly constrained by the biological niches within which the organisms evolved. While such a thesis has been defended by several authors elsewhere, our primary concern here is to take up the issue of the compatibility of selective representing and realism. In this paper we hope to show three things. First, that the notion of selective representing is fully consistent with the realist idea of a mind-independent world. Second, that not only are these two consistent, but that the latter (the realist conception of a mind-independent world) provides the most powerful perspective from which to motivate and understand the differing perceptual and cognitive profiles themselves. And third, that the (genuine and important) sense in which organism and environment may together constitute an integrated system of scientific interest poses no additional threat to the realist conception. 相似文献

One of the famous approaches to decision making is named as multicriteria decision making (MCDM). In order to solve the MCDM issues, a better way is provided by the fuzzy logic. Expendability, cost, maintenance, availability of software, and performance characteristics are such problems considered by the decision. The precise estimation of the pertinent data is one of the vital phases in DM systems. This paper presents a fuzzy MCDM‐based cluster head (CH) selection and hybrid routing protocol to solve the most common issues. In this research article, the generalized intuitionistic fuzzy soft set (GIFSS) approach is utilized to select the optimal CH, and hybrid shark smell optimization (SSO), and a genetic algorithm (GA) is introduced for the effective routing. Initially, the wireless sensor network (WSN) system and energy models are designed, and then the nodes are grouped into several clusters. Next, based on the GIFSS, the CH nodes are selected, and finally, an effective routing is placed based on the hybrid optimizations. The implementation is performed on the NS2 platform, and the performances are evaluated by packet delivery ratio (PDR), delay, packet loss ratio (PLR), network lifetime, bit error rate (BER), energy consumption, throughput, and jitter. The existing approaches named energy centers examining using particle swarm optimization (EC‐PSO), variable dimension‐based PSO (VD‐PSO), energy‐efficient PSO‐based CH selection (PSO‐ECHS), low‐energy adaptive clustering hierarchy‐sugeno fuzzy (LEACH‐SF), SSO, and GA are compared with the proposed strategy. Some major recent developments in alexandrite laser research are reviewed. Emphasis is placed on key material characteristics, and their relationship to laser performance. Alexandrite's favorable thermomechanical properties and high capacity for energy storage have led to laser performance levels that, in certain areas, exceed those of established solid-state laser sources. Here we review performance achievements for a variety of pulsed and CW laser configurations including single-mode, multimode, and mode-locked resonators, high-power amplifiers, and zig-zag slabs. In these configurations, operating performance levels have been demonstrated that are comparable to those of older, more familiar solid-state laser technologies. Alexandrite's broad tunability offers additional advantages. Together with nonlinear frequency conversion processes, alexandrite lasers provide high-brightness output over most of the UV, visible, and near IR. 相似文献

UK water debt has increased rapidly and has become a significant management issue for most water companies, constraining investment in necessary environmental interventions. Debt is characterised as debt penetration (percentage of customers in debt) and debt intensity (average size of debt per indebted customer). Actual debt characteristics in a water company can be plotted by intensity and penetration to demonstrate performance differences between companies, changes over time and performance relative to national norms. Using the relationships between debt and deprivation, the expected debt performance can be plotted. Using the expected position as a benchmark, the company performance can be evaluated and the remedial strategies can be targeted (if required) towards reduction of frequency and size of debt. The distance between actual and expected values is used as a metric of the requirement for additional debt management investment. The half-life of the green fluorescent protein (GFP) was determinedbiochemically in cultured mouse LA-9 cells. The wild-type proteinwas found to be stable with a half-life of ~26 h, but couldbe destabilized by the addition of putative proteolytic signalsequences derived from proteins with shorter half-lives. A C-terminalfusion of a PEST sequence from the mouse ornithine decarboxylasegene reduced the half-life to 9.8 h, resulting in a GFP variantsuitable for the study of dynamic cellular processes. In anN-terminal fusion containing the mouse cyclin B1 destructionbox, it was reduced to 5.8 h, with most degradation taking placeat metaphase. The combination of both sequences produced a similarGFP half-life of 5.5 h. Landscape planning and analysis, landscape simulations, and landscape projections all seek to either evaluate the current or past condition of a landscape or project future conditions. The level of spatial and computational resolution chosen should be carefully considered because it will restrict or empower future developments in large-scale, integrated landscape planning projects. In this paper, the basic challenges and opportunities associated with using forest vegetation growth and yield models and databases in large-scale, long-term forest landscape simulation projects are outlined. We pose several questions that integrated landscape modeling teams should consider when evaluating whether to use forest growth and yield data in landscape planning efforts. When managers and other professionals involved in landscape planning efforts are prepared for the challenges and opportunities inherent in modeling forest vegetation dynamics, they may then be positioned to implement a fast and smooth modeling process. 相似文献
