The present study represents a cross-cultural study of animal fears in which subjects from seven Western and Asian countries were asked to rate their fear of a range of familiar animals. Factor analyses of these ratings in all samples revealed a coherent three factor solution in which animals fell into a fear-irrelevant, fear-relevant (fierce) or disgust-relevant category. The core group of animals making up the disgust-relevant category were similar across cultures. Some views on how a universal disgust-relevant category of feared animals may have developed are discussed. 相似文献

In DPCM coding of video signals, for improved data compression efficiency, the predictor is often switched adaptively between two or more different predictions. For low-bit-rate coders, the predictor switching is done on a pel-by-pel basis. In this paper, a new scheme for predictor switching on a pel-by-pel basis is proposed. This new scheme is a modification of an existing adaptive predictor switching scheme which has been implemented in pel-recursive motion compensated coding of video signals. To evaluate the efficiency of the new scheme, a theoretical expression for the output bit rate is derived. It is pointed out under what conditions it is advantageous to use the new scheme for predictor switching. Some details of implementation are discussed. Results of computer simulation on natural scenes are presented. These results validate the theoretical conclusions derived in the paper. The simulation results also indicate that the picture quality is improved significantly, for approximately the same output bit rate, with the new predictor switching scheme as compared to the existing scheme for predictor switching. 相似文献

Heterostructured catalysts are hybrid materials that contain interfaces between their constituents formed through combinations of multiple solid‐state materials. The presence of multiple constituents institutes a synergistic effect that endows the catalyst with superior performance and appreciable potential in a diverse range of catalytic applications, including electrocatalytic and photocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide. These promising catalysts can support a feasible method for large‐scale processing of valuable carbonaceous feedstock or fuel generation and alleviation of atmospheric carbon dioxide levels. Such technologies will serve as the much‐needed remedy for the global energy and environmental crisis. A broad spectrum of recently developed heterostructured catalysts pertaining to electrocatalytic and photocatalytic carbon dioxide reduction is evaluated. The insights included are of relevance to refresh fundamentals pertaining to the electron transfer processes leading to carbon dioxide reduction and the mechanistic reduction pathways yielding a possible multitude of carbonaceous products. Detailed discussions provide a rational understanding of how the hybrid and resultant properties from various combinations are useful in enhancing catalytic function. Lastly, the performance profiles of various catalyst structures together with modification strategies employed are of interest to highlight the current challenges to and directions for future catalyst development. 相似文献

Extraction of uranium with bis-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphonic acid (PC-88A) and bis(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl) phosphinic acid (Cyanex-272) was studied in several imidazolium-based room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs), Cnmim·X (where n = 4, 6, 8 and X = PF6 and Tf2N). The extraction kinetics was slow and about 0.5–1 h equilibration time was required for most of the extraction systems, except in C8mim·PF6, where 2 h and 4 h were required to reach the equilibrium values for PC-88A and Cyanex-272, respectively. The extraction of UO22+ ion by the two ligands was significantly affected by the nature and the composition of the RTILs. 相似文献

Control of power electronics converters used in PV system is very much essential for the efficient operation of the solar system. In this paper, a modified incremental conduction maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm in conjunction with an adaptive fuzzy controller is proposed to control the DC–DC boost converter in the PV system under rapidly varying atmospheric and partial shading conditions. An adaptive hysteresis current controller is proposed to control the inverter. The proposed current controller provides constant switching frequency with less harmonic content compared with fixed hysteresis current control algorithm and sinusoidal PWM controller. The modeling and simulation of PV system along with the proposed controllers are done using MATLAB/SIMSCAPE software. Simulation results show that the proposed MPPT algorithm is faster in transient state and presents smoother signal with less fluctuations in steady state. The hardware implementation of proposed MPPT algorithm and inverter current control algorithms using Xilinx spartran-3 FPGA is also presented. The experimental results show satisfactory performance of the proposed approaches. 相似文献
