Metadata requirements for digital museum environments   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We describe a system which addresses all the processes involved in digitally acquiring, modelling, storing, manipulating and creating virtual exhibitions from 3D museum artefacts. More specifically, we examine the significance of metadata in enabling and supporting all of these processes and describe the extensive facilities provided for authoring, maintaining and managing metadata. The development of the system has been heavily influenced by factors relating to interoperability, standards, museum best practice and feedback from two museum pilot sites. Finally, we briefly consider the system in the wider context of applications such as virtual learning environments and distributed repositories of archives.  相似文献

The ability of 2 patients with a clinical deficit of extinction to process stimuli presented contralaterally to their lesions was tested with 2 variants of the flanker task. The patients saw 2 colored stimuli, 1 of which appeared in the center of the visual field and the other either on the ipsior contralateral side. In the peripheral report task, the patients had to report the color of the peripheral stimulus. In the center report task, the patients had to report the color of the central stimulus. The patients were much slower in the peripheral report task when the target was presented contralaterally to their lesion. By contrast, the responses in the center report task were equally influenced by ipsi- and contralateral flankers. The findings indicate that the patients were not impaired in the perceptual processing or the activation of response codes for contralateral stimuli. Temporal activation of biological processes by visible light and subsequent return to an inactive state in the absence of light is an essential characteristic of photoreceptor cells. Inspired by these phenomena, light‐responsive materials are very attractive due to the high spatiotemporal control of light irradiation, with light being able to precisely orchestrate processes repeatedly over many cycles. Herein, it is reported that light‐driven proton transfer triggered by a merocyanine‐based photoacid can be used to modulate the permeability of pH‐responsive polymersomes through cyclic, temporally controlled protonation and deprotonation of the polymersome membrane. The membranes can undergo repeated light‐driven swelling–contraction cycles without losing functional effectiveness. When applied to enzyme loaded‐nanoreactors, this membrane responsiveness is used for the reversible control of enzymatic reactions. This combination of the merocyanine‐based photoacid and pH‐switchable nanoreactors results in rapidly responding and versatile supramolecular systems successfully used to switch enzymatic reactions ON and OFF on demand.  相似文献

Ferroelectric metals—with coexisting ferroelectricity and structural asymmetry—challenge traditional perceptions because free electrons screen electrostatic forces between ions, the driving force of breaking the spatial inversion symmetry. Despite ferroelectric metals having been unveiled one after another, topologically switchable polar objects with metallicity have never been identified so far. Here, the discovery of real-space topological ferroelectricity in metallic and non-centrosymmetric Ni2P is reported. Protected by the rotation–inversion symmetry operation, it is found that the balanced polarity of alternately stacked polyhedra couples intimately with elemental valence states, which are verified using quantitative electron energy-loss spectroscopy. First-principles calculations reveal that an applied in-plane compressive strain creates a tunable bilinear double-well potential and reverses the polyhedral polarity on a unit-cell scale. The dual roles of nickel cations, including polar displacement inside polyhedral cages and a 3D bonding network, facilitate the coexistence of topological polarity with metallicity. In addition, the switchable in-plane polyhedral polarity gives rise to a spin–orbit-coupling-induced spin texture with large momentum-dependent spin splitting. These findings point out a new direction for exploring valence–polarity–spin correlative interactions via topological ferroelectricity in metallic systems with structural asymmetry.  相似文献

We present atomic-scale, video-rate environmental transmission electron microscopy and in situ time-resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of surface-bound catalytic chemical vapor deposition of single-walled carbon nanotubes and nanofibers. We observe that transition metal catalyst nanoparticles on SiOx support show crystalline lattice fringe contrast and high deformability before and during nanotube formation. A single-walled carbon nanotube nucleates by lift-off of a carbon cap. Cap stabilization and nanotube growth involve the dynamic reshaping of the catalyst nanocrystal itself. For a carbon nanofiber, the graphene layer stacking is determined by the successive elongation and contraction of the catalyst nanoparticle at its tip.  相似文献

To examine interactions between color and word attributes, participants responded, either manually or vocally, to a central target (color patch or word) flanked by a Stroop stimulus. Color and word attributes of the flanker affected both vocal and manual responding to color patches. Color and word flankers also affected manual responding to word targets, but only word flanker affected vocal responding to word targets. These results are not consistent with models (e.g., translational models) of Stroop tasks, which posit that interactions between colors and words occur only when vocal responding is required. The paper deals with analysis and optimization of the performance of the combustion process in a biomass furnace at a biomass cogeneration plant. For the purpose a thermodynamic model for the biomass burning process in a grate furnace was developed. The mathematical model describes both, the thermal decomposition of the fuel on the grate as well as gas phase combustion in the secondary zone. The presented approach is based on energy equations for each individual step of the biomass combustion process.Measurement results from a biomass-fired cogeneration plant were used to validate the model. Comparison between simulation and measurement results shows good agreement. The model predicts accurately the temperature profiles in the combustion chamber.The presented approach is suitable for model based analysis and optimization of control strategies. The developed model was used to optimize the performance of the recirculation system of the combustion appliance. The simulation based analysis showed, that the flow rate of the recirculated exhaust fumes can be significantly reduced which results in energy savings of 17% of the auxiliary electrical power demand.  相似文献

When we learn to make one motor response to one visual stimulus and a different motor response to another, representations of these stimulus-response associations must be maintained to efficiently transduce perception into action. When an irrelevant distractor is presented adjacent to a target stimulus, interference is observed when the two stimuli are associated with conflicting responses, presumably due to response channel activation by the incompatible information. We have explored the neural bases of these interference effects. In a previous study, patients with hemispatial neglect showed normal interference from contralesional flankers. In another study, patients with lesions of the lateral prefrontal cortex were found not to show interference from distractors presented in the contralesional hemifield. The current study provided a more anatomically detailed investigation of the effects of posterior association cortex lesions on flanker interference. Patients with chronic, unilateral lesions involving the temporoparietal junction (TPJ), two of whom had hemispatial neglect, were compared with patients with lesions of the posterior association cortex not involving the TPJ. All patients performed a color discrimination task at fixation while a congruent or incongruent colored flanker was briefly presented (16.7 ms) in the adjacent contralesional or ipsilesional hemifield. Patients with TPJ lesions showed no interference effects from the contralesional flankers. These results suggest that the TPJ, in combination with the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, is involved in transducing perception into action.  相似文献
