Over-exploitation of the groundwater resources is the major problem leading to groundwater depletion in the Sa'dah Plain, one of the major semi-arid highland basins of Yemen. Groundwater-irrigated agriculture is the chief economic activity in the Plain. Consequently, depletion places socioeconomic development in jeopardy. Owing to the lack of institutional arrangements and management instruments, government intervention is not likely to alleviate the crisis. One non-governmental approach that takes advantage of the existing local sociopolitical structure and customary law would be to adopt an annual abstraction quota. Approaching the crisis at a grass-roots level and relying on the conformity of the local citizens with customary law are the main characteristics of this strategy, the optimum objective of which is sustainable utilization of water resources.  相似文献

Interleukin-8 (IL-8) and the structurally related cytokines neutrophil-activating peptide-2 (NAP-2) and GRO alpha are powerful chemotactic agents for human neutrophils. Although these three chemokines act by binding to overlapping but not identical receptor subsets, the data available to date have stressed the similarities in their mechanisms of action. The present studies were undertaken to further our understanding of the signal transduction mechanisms associated with these neutrophil agonists. IL-8, NAP-2, and GRO alpha stimulated similar increases in the level of cytoplasmic free calcium. They were also shown to stimulate qualitatively similar increases in the levels of protein tyrosine phosphorylation. In contrast, only IL-8 enhanced the formation of phosphatidylethanol (PEt), the product catalyzed by phospholipase D (PLD) in the presence of ethanol. The formation of PEt stimulated by IL-8 was inhibited by pertussis toxin and the tyrosine kinase inhibitors erbstatin and herbimycin A. The ability of IL-8 to stimulate the activity of PLD was additively enhanced, or primed, by cytochalasin B and by tumor necrosis factor alpha. Although all three chemokines increased the level of free cytoplasmic calcium to the same extent, IL-8 was significantly more potent than either NAP-2 or GRO alpha with respect to its ability to enhance CD11b expression and to stimulate chemotactic and oxidative responses. The differences between IL-8, NAP-2, and GRO alpha in their ability to stimulate PLD is likely to be related to their respective binding affinities for the two IL-8 receptors (IL-8R-A and IL-8R-B). These results suggest that the signalling pathways activated by IL-8R-A and IL-8R-B diverge at a step preceding the activation of PLD.  相似文献

Er3+, Tm3+ and Yb3+ codoped gadolinium oxyfluoride nanoparticles were prepared in aqueous solution by a simple coprecipitation method, under alkaline conditions. After a suitable heat treatment at 500 °C, the nanocrystalline powders were found to be single phase tetragonal Gd4O3F6 after a structural characterization using X-ray powder diffraction. Transmission electron microscopy images showed that the average size of the nanoparticles was approximately 50 nm. Following appropriate lanthanide ion doping, the nanocrystals show bright white light upconversion upon excitation at 980 nm using a diode laser as the excitation source.  相似文献

The effects of soluble and particulate agonists on the tyrosine phosphorylation levels of the proto-oncogene Cbl in human neutrophils were examined. Experimental conditions allowing the maintenance of Cbl as well as of its tyrosine phosphorylation status were first established. Their use allowed us to observe that Cbl was tyrosine phosphorylated in response to some (FcgammaRII ligation, opsonized bacteria and zymosan, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor, monosodium urate, and calcium pyrophosphate microcrystals), but not all (fMet-Leu-Phe, interleukin-8) neutrophil agonists. Cbl was also shown to account for a varying proportion of the 120-kDa phosphoprotein(s) observed in response to the above stimuli. These data establish that Cbl is present in human neutrophils and that its level of tyrosine phosphorylation is modulated by some of these cells' agonists, and in particular by phagocytic particles. Furthermore, the signaling pathways activated by chemotactic factors and the other neutrophil stimuli tested in this investigation diverge at or downstream from the tyrosine phosphorylation of Cbl.  相似文献

The aromatisation of propane was investigated at 823 K on two Ga/H-ZSM-5 catalysts differing by their aluminum content (Si/Al = 18 and 128, respectively), i.e. their Brönsted acid site concentration, and having similar gallium content (1.6 wt%) as a function of successive pretreatments by hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen treatment increases activity and selectivity to aromatics while decreasing the formation of methane. Subsequent oxygen treatment enhances further the activity and aromatics selectivity and has little effect on methane selectivity. These improvements of catalytic performance are explained by gallium migration in reducing conditions. The concentration of highly dispersed gallium species is thereby enhanced. These species, in association with Bronsted centers, were reported previously to constitute the dual catalytic sites responsible for alkane activation. Hydrogen-oxygen pretreatment of Ga/H-ZSM-5 catalysts is thus a means to ensure rapid catalyst preactivation and stabilisation in large scale light alkane aromatisation units.  相似文献

Antibody-staining experiments have shown that closely related members of the TCRAV3 family are reciprocally selected into the CD4 or CD8 peripheral T cell subsets. This has been attributed to the individual AV3 members interacting preferentially with either MHC class I or MHC class II molecules. Single amino acid residues present in the complementarity-determining regions (CDR) CDR1alpha and CDR2alpha are important in determining MHC class specificity. We have now extended these observations to survey the expressed repertoire of the AV3 family in C57BL/6 mice. Three of the four expressed AV3 members are preferentially selected into the CD4+ subset of T cells. These share the same amino acid residue in both CDR1alpha and CDR2alpha that differ from the only CD8-skewed member. Preferential expression of an individual AV3 is not caused by other endogenous alpha- or beta-chains, by any conserved CDR3 sequence, or by the usage of TCRAJ regions. This study shows that residues in the CDR1 and CDR2 regions are primary determinants for MHC class discrimination and suggests that polymorphism found within a TCRAV family has an important effect on the overall shaping of the T cell repertoire.  相似文献

Generating a Condensed Representation for Association Rules   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Association rule extraction from operational datasets often produces several tens of thousands, and even millions, of association rules. Moreover, many of these rules are redundant and thus useless. Using a semantic based on the closure of the Galois connection, we define a condensed representation for association rules. This representation is characterized by frequent closed itemsets and their generators. It contains the non-redundant association rules having minimal antecedent and maximal consequent, called min-max association rules. We think that these rules are the most relevant since they are the most general non-redundant association rules. Furthermore, this representation is a basis, i.e., a generating set for all association rules, their supports and their confidences, and all of them can be retrieved needless accessing the data. We introduce algorithms for extracting this basis and for reconstructing all association rules. Results of experiments carried out on real datasets show the usefulness of this approach. In order to generate this basis when an algorithm for extracting frequent itemsets—such as Apriori for instance—is used, we also present an algorithm for deriving frequent closed itemsets and their generators from frequent itemsets without using the dataset.  相似文献

Vehicular ad-hoc networks play an important role in providing safety on the road. Vehicles generate and exchange emergency and control messages to avoid dangerous situations. According to IEEE 1609.4 standard, all these messages share the same control channel interval even if the emergency messages are with a highest priority. Besides that, network’s characteristics, such as vehicle density and high mobility, would make the diffusion of emergency messages a challenging task. Especially with the absence of acknowledgements and retransmission. Network coding could be seen as a solution where a block of data packets could be sent on the same transmission process. Firstly, we analyze the messages’ dissemination, and we propose a thoroughly model for success probability according to the emergency messages’ generation probabilities. Further, we propose a new network coding access scheme. The emergency messages take the priority in the channel access and it could be retransmitted several times. Thus, the scheme deals with the emergency messages’ loss and latency. NS-3 simulations show that our model increases emergency messages’ reliability.
